Mayweather makes “Legacy fights” look EASY! People spent MORE $$$$ and had Great anticipation for the Canelo fight and Floyd simply took the air out of the room and showed the kid the upper most level of boxing… If he jabbed Pacquiao to death all night and fed him right hands would that be “a legacy fight”…. People want Mayweather to really go “life or death” and have to get up off the canvas well that’s just not Floyds game he is simply ALWAYS the smartest fighter in the ring.. What type of “legacy fights” was Ray Leonard having at close to 38? losses to Camacho and Norris? Mayweather has NEVER taken a beating and if he sticks to his plan of retirement soon me may never… His “Legacy” will be DOMINANCE for 20 years over World Class, HOF and Multi-Weight opposition…

Mayweather v. the bigger, undefeated, and favored by many Corralles was a legacy-defining bout. Floyd Destroyed “Chico” that night. his jump to 154lbs to face DLH on DLH’s conditions is also legacy-defining. his more recent humbling of the young (albeit green) lion Canelo adds more luster to Mayweather’s ATG ring-profile. “Chicanito”, Judah, Baldomir, Cotto, Guerrero, Marquez, and Maidana. Floyd’s body-of-work speaks for itself and when you march through that gauntlet with relative ease, that is Floyd Mayweather Jr’s. ring legacy. it’s 99% defined. only the final touches remain to be applied, e.g., immediately rematching Maidana who gave him the toughest challenge of his entire career. that’s Greatness.

Posted August 17, 2014 7:37 pm

He hasn’t had a so called legacy fight meaning he hasn’t been in a war because he is just better than everybody he has fought. Just because this hasn’t happen doesn’t mean he is ducking fighters or cherry picking. Just means you have a lack of knowledge or you are a Floyd hater. You can break down a lot of fighters records saying he wasn’t much.

Posted August 17, 2014 3:10 pm

I look at Boxing the way most rationale thinking boxing fans see boxing, and well agree on at least one point which is, Floyd has NEVER EVER had a legacy fight in his career and why? Because he simply hasn’t dared to face the best. Yes he has fought with the best but they were way past their prime or, not elite. In either case, Floyd has never fought anyone who has been both elite and in their prime. If you interpret that as hating, then you are not a rationale thinking person, or even an objective one. No one if you cared to notice, has ever said Floyd sucks as a fighter, of course not. It goes way beyond that. Floyd has skills, he just has never challenged himself and has never fought the best when it mattered most………having fought them in their prime and being elite! That’s what counts and that is why Floyd’s fights will never measure up to the quality fight we witnessed last night, ever!!

What clown scored this a draw?
Brook had Porter on a string the entire fight, beating him to the punch, catching him coming in, and even getting the better of him on the inside, each time landing authoritative shots. I genuinely didn’t expect Brook to be that composed.
Porter may have won a round or two with the odd flashy and largely ineffective shoe shines, but that is about it.

p.s. el torpe you failure, go back to TMZ with that nonsense.

Posted August 17, 2014 1:45 pm

I look at boxing the way it is supposed to look like. You can say Castillo beat the crap out of Floyd all you want but you are wrong. And Floyd got the decision. Had an immediate rematch and won again. Floyd sells plain and simple so apparently looking pretty does account for a lot. Especially since a lot of folks on here are talking about how Porter looked and how he needs more skills. You look at boxing being a hater towards Floyd and can’t look at it subjectively. I can look through both sides of the glass.

Posted August 17, 2014 1:41 pm

Maidana doesn’t really smother his shots like Porter does. Also Maidana throws awkward punches. Porter does not. Porter still throws more text book punches. Even though he rushes in, he doesn’t throw the wide looping punches that Maidana throws which made him some what successful against Floyd.

Posted August 17, 2014 1:13 pm

That’s because people like peej look at boxing subjectively…..favoring Floyd always. True, Floyd looks better when he fights however, you don’t get points for looking pretty. Whether your win by brawling or boxing, it’s the win that counts not how the style, thats why many including me believe Castillo beat the crap of Floyd but the powers that be saw it a different way. Nonetheless, Floyd only sells when he fights a fighter determined to be a threat, otherwise, he has plently of ppv fights under 900k.

Brook clearly won that fight. While I’d love to see him fight Thurman next, Brook vs. Khan in the UK makes far more sense. Thurman should focus on Guerrero or Alexander.

it might be harsh but I saw shades of “Left Hook” Lacy in Porter’s defeat last night(?). fortunately, welter is Loaded with plenty of more-obliging competition. it’s not as if just anybody could execute the fight-plan that Brook did last night. that was impressive.

Posted August 17, 2014 12:54 pm

Provodnikov, Mathysse, Rios, even Alvarado, Soto-Karass, or Berto at 147lbs. plenty of “after-dark” matchups (and paydays) for Porter to surge back into title-contention. Marquez is not a 147lbr but if he insists on getting some of Porter he should also be considered. the point is plenty of opportunity for Porter to return even better. unfortunately, Brook just wrote and published the book on how to contain him: jab, clinch, counter, lead, which not only smothered Porter’s offense but had him noticeably fatigued during the later rounds. he’s not a soft-touch but Brook took him to school last night and the smarter interested parties took notes.

Posted August 17, 2014 12:51 pm

Porter did not impress me. I guess making it rough and lunging in was his best hope. I had Brooks the clear winner.

Posted August 17, 2014 12:51 pm

response to Tark.

You’re right, no demand for a rematch. Where does Porter go from here?

Posted August 17, 2014 12:39 pm

porter mentioned rematch, not sure if anything was in the contract regarding a rematch. Brook v khan sells Out old trafford or etihad, no point taking 2 northern boys (Bolton and Sheffield) to the big smoke, keep it local. Brook has options now, probably a tune or mandatory before khan. Hearn will want to get paid as well.

Posted August 17, 2014 12:37 pm

Ummm yeah Floyds fight would definitely surpass them from a skills stand point. Floyd would school Porter. Porter did a lot of mauling and smothered his punches which then took a lot of power off his punches. That would be considered poor skills. And his lack of defense is terrible. Floyd apparently is doing a lot of folks favors when he is fighting. First off he sells lots of PPVs which means the under card fighters get lots of eyes seeing them. People who fight him get paid career high paydays. Apparently if you win 3 or 4 rounds against him you apparently get a rematch which equals 2 career paydays. lol.

Posted August 17, 2014 12:35 pm

After last night’s fight, no way in hell Floyd wants any part of either Porter, Brooks including Thurman and especially Pac. Last night demonstrated the personification of what a true competitive fight ought to be. Two world class fighters, whose primary purpose in boxing is not about protecting their “0, ” but in putting on a show for the fans ( who pay their bills) and demonstrating what TRUE fighters do…..fighting the best fighters possible and not taking fights based on their possibility of winning but, taking on the best fighters bar none. This was an excellent, excellent fight. Highly doubt Floyd’s fight will come close in terms of skill, energy and excitement this was. Floyd is doing no one any favors by continuing to fight especially when he has not fought an elite fighter who was in their prime, and that is a sad turn of events when Floyd and his minions consider him to be the greatest of all time, all-time great or simply, a P4P fighter. Why continue fighting if he’s not fighting the best. Besides, Floyd can’t say it’s about money because Floyd makes 32M regardless of who he fights, so what’s the real reason Floyd doesn’t fight the best? I think we ALL know why; same reason he avoided Pac. He should be ashamed of himself.

MASSIVE PROPS TO Kell Brook. Kell was the mandatory contender, first with the WBO and then the IBF for nearly 2 whole years and he could have whined and created a fuss about stuff when he had 2 fights cancelled or had that hare’em scare’em battle with Carson Jones.

Nope. Kell sucked it up and kept a stiff upper lip and rematched Jones and stuck to his belief that he could be IBF champion, whether it was Alexander or the ‘feared monster’ (LOL) Porter…

What he also did was he travelled out to the States and he behaved impeccably throughout the proceedings and after the fight, praising Porter as a champion, whilst keeping his composure in the eye of storm.

People like Amir Khan and George Groves can learn from someone like Kell. You don’t need to run your mouth or lie to get to the top.
Arrogance and delusional behaviour are traits that are quite repulsive in people.

I’m glad that Kell won the battle of the mind games as I posted that if Kell can keep his composure and believe in himself I was certain he would beat Porter.

To be honest I’ve never really seen why people were so sold on Showtime. I always thought he lacked fundamental boxing skills and if someone could hold ring centre and stick the jab on him, the battle is half won.

I actually thought Porter would bring more than he did, this bringing out the best of Kell, but he didn’t even have to dig into his bag of tricks last night.
Well done on the win and being gracious with it.

The only downside of last night was hearing that flapper Amir Khan say that, “Kell has now EARNED the right to face Amir Khan in a ring.”

I nearly choked on my drink listening to the arrogance of this a. hole!

That is what I said. Wilder is said to be the next HW Champ of the World and is signed to a fight with HW CHamp Stiverne in a title fight, and he does an appearance like this with Gavern. He would have got more rounds sparring in the gym. Give me a break here.

Sweet Science

Khan will beat any welterweight right now stop hating on Khan. When Khan has lost it was because he beat himself not because what the other guy did. He loses discipline and gets reckless. But now he looks better he looks stronger better stamina not weight drained, he absorbed a punch from Collazo that would have knocked out most welterweights and he took it well. Stop hating on Khan. Khan is faster then Floyd he would beat and outbox Floyd all 12 rounds thats why they dont want Khan. Freddie Roach dont want Khan because they all know Khan is dangerous risky fight for Mayweather and Pacman. Khan should go for a rematch with Garcia and school him like he was before Garcia got lucky with that lucky punch. Brook no chance verse Khan he’ll get outboxed.

Watch Rosado vs Vera and judge for yourselves ..BKB can be just what the sport needs thanks to the cold war between the networks, promoters, corruption, greed, politics and the diva mentality of boxers/fighters today..sorry but if so called traditional boxing wasn’t what it is today they’ll be no need for a BKB in the sport..we can all thank this new cult of fanboys we have today who defend this BS thus allow promoters, managers, advisors to screw fans in general

To bad Rosado can’t do it in a real ring. I find it funny in his interview he said they are just handing out belts in boxing. Unfortunately he never could get one of those belts he was handing out. He had to won a belt from someone who can’t win a title in real boxing either.

Porter is now known. Too himself more importantly than to us. He met a bigger stronger better boxer and his face looks like he did too. He will go through some inner soul searching if he is honest with himself and will need to renovate his game and get a new trainer. Or else he will remain a b grade boxing bully. Brooks has done well on foreign soil and I liked the way he held his ground and kept himself strong and up right. He was not intimidated. He has a nice period now to survey his many options. Props to Special K for proving me a fool.

Brook fought a good disciplined fight which he needed to do against Porter who has real power. I kind of expected more boms from Porter but Brook was too slick and mobile.

On the other hand, I hoped to see Brooks power when I saw Brook is able to outbox Porter but he was too cautious to let his hands go.

But good win anyway, congrats!

Where you getting your info. From what I am reading the first Pac vs Bradley fight did right under 900 thousand buys, the rematch did between 750 and 800 thousand buys which means less than 800 thousand buys.

Khan/Brook is a great fight. Khan is almost always in exciting fights. And Kell has the timing and power to crack Amir’s chin that’s for sure.

Brook needs to do to Khan what Khan did to him! Say no to a fight! Say he is not on your level! Which you can you see that Brook would beat him easy too!

Posted August 17, 2014 10:16 am

hibdeebibdee…. Yep, fighting in America and coming off a brutal stoppage of Malignaggi made Porter the slight favourite. Had the fight been in the UK I reckon predictions for this one would have been split 50/50.

Funny how Porter nailed Brook with about one hundred punches behind the head with zero warning while the ONE time Brook threw a shot to the back of Porters head he received a stern warning.

According to Wikipedia, Brad/Pac 2 did more than Brad/Pac 1 (700,000) and Clottey (660,000). It was on a par with the Hatton fight which did 850,000. …With the right opponent, Pacman still sells.

Posted August 17, 2014 10:00 am

When you take in consideration that they were less than the first fight, then yes that is not so good. Plus the amount of money they had to pay both Pac and Bradley. Numbers were very disappointing.

Posted August 17, 2014 9:52 am

A little out of context…but didn’t realise that Pacquiao/Bradley 2 did 800,000 on American HBO! Not bad for a Filipino guy at the tail end of his career, brutally KO’d only two fights previously.

Posted August 17, 2014 9:46 am

Yeah I don’t think it was that big or should be considered that big of an upset. I have no clue what the odds were on the fight but I figured they would be close to 50/50 or Brook was a 2 to 1 underdog.

Posted August 17, 2014 9:44 am

Another one of Tarks potential Mayweather opponents have bit the dust. I thought Brooks won the fight. Didn’t keep score but from what I saw he landed the cleaner harder blows and Porter just kept smothering himself. Lets see Brook vs Khan and see if he can KO Khan. He looks like he has the punching power to do it.

Porter is wrestler he is not a boxer and he won’t make any real money in the sport until he learns how to box.

Porter can beat small guys (Devon Alexander), weak guys (Julio Diaz), and old guys (Paulie Malignaggi) because Porter is a strong guy with good hand speed — but Porter can’t beat any really elite fighter because he doesn’t have that much boxing skill. He is a strong guy with wrestling ability. Probably should have learned MMA.

Brook on the other hand is a skilled boxer and he has the strength to hold off guys like Porter and maybe anybody else at 147. Look forward to seeing Brook against Maidana or Thuman or Josesito Lopez or Bradley or Provodnikov or even Pacquiao or Mayweather. Brook would give most of these guys a great fight — I don’t know if Brook has the handspeed for Pacquiao or Mayweather but he deserves to be considered a Top 5 fighter at 147 today.
