He did ‘Bully’ James Toney. Freddie Roach said as much after the fight. He said that James was disheartened in that fight for the first time as a heavyweight, he was cut and slow and became apprehensive (something Toney never ever did). Roach said that fight ruined him, because he was too tough to go down so took too many unanswered punches from a big puncher

“Bullied” James Toney,hahhaha good joke.

“Ouboxed” James Toney, yes but onlly in the 2nd fight. In the 1st fight,it was the other way around.

Bill Patrice Jones don’t worry yourself with Tark. He’s been outed as a flip flop. Actually he’s a flip flop who flip flops!

Posted August 17, 2014 6:26 am

Good weight for Peter is in the low 240s. He looked good when under 245. Soon as he moved to weights like 253 and above he was always too slow for me. Hasn’t been in shape since the Wlad rematch, and I think that Peter would have defo knocked Helenius out. He jus happened to be fighting the best in his prime

Tark you say ‘Peter smashed a guy who knocked out a guy who KOd Lewis with one shot’ What kind of nonsensical reasoning is that. Rahman was a very solid fighter in his prime and he lucked out with a mega punch when Lewis was over heated not acclimatized and lazy. That same Rahman when shopworn and less powerful was beaten well by Maskaev during his cinderella man run which was good for Oleg. But Peter was meant to be a big puncher and Maskaev was always a bit shaky taking punches. I think Peter was ruined by a combination of three fights; Wladimir 05 slowed him down Vitali 08 took his confidence and wlad 10 literally killed him. I hope he doesn’t get knocked out here I really do. I hate watching fighters I used to like get beaten up by people they would have wiped the floor with in their prime

bryd did it. that dudes cool as hell too. byrd has faced some beasts! always liked and respected cris rapid fire cris byrd

Posted August 17, 2014 3:12 am

i have a lot of respect for sam peter. dude fought 2 klitschko brothers and 3 klitschko fights. i cant think of any fighter in history to go through that kind meat grinder war the guy has huge phukin balls and is PURE WARRIOR.

all the people dodging the klitschkos and sam fights them 3 times

Posted August 17, 2014 3:02 am

it would be a miracle if he did win. this is aussie show bring a name down under and let leapai scalp it.

the odds of peter not folding in just the first half are long let alone winning. but it would be cool as hell if he pulled off an upset. i cant wait to see the shape he is in at this point

Posted August 17, 2014 2:54 am

Peter hasn’t had a fight in 3.5 years… He’s not going to win this.

Posted August 17, 2014 2:19 am

If sam peter shows up for this fight it should be an easy win for him.

Posted August 16, 2014 10:24 pm

Curtis Lowe

Jim, seriously dude, how can you say Sam Peter and 220 – 225 lbs in the same sentence? The only way Peter ever weighs 225 again is if he has AIDS or is cancer stricken.

Posted August 16, 2014 9:19 pm

This is true

Bears, you don’t need a handle to realise it’s the weekend, your on your meth again and talking sh!t again.

Anonymous- I must admit, you actually do write just like Sredmond ! Maybe a coincidence.

Kendrick is a super wanker. Biggest retard on ESB. BTW I’m not Redmond you tool guzzler.

Anonymous is Sredmond. The dumbest bastard ever shat out of a whore.

Posted August 16, 2014 5:33 pm

Bears, the funny thing is I may not have a ‘handle’ as you so eloquently put it, but I make for more sense than you ever can, cause you don’t have a ‘handle’ on any aspect of your own life, let alone this sport we call boxing. Your writings are utter gibberish. Garbage has a higher IQ than you, you fat moron wannabe boxing analyst. Your pieces you filmed on YouTube are utter garbage, you fat, balding, too many pizza eating, far too much liquor drinking, lard ass, couch potato. Go back to the YMCA – The Village People are missing an idiot. But, FFS keep Mayweather and Golovkin off this thread. Asswipe.

Posted August 16, 2014 5:26 pm

Peter was overhyped in his prime, now he must be that much worse. But Leapai is such a sad sack Peter could get a win here…beats driving a truck…

Posted August 16, 2014 4:34 pm

Tark, why are you always working Vitali into threads? Your man crush is too much. Lewis stopped Vitali, it is there in stone for the ages…

Posted August 16, 2014 4:31 pm

anonymous- u dont even have a handle so your a nobody

u have less than no authority so your irrelevant. u cant tell anyone what to do sh!t for brains. lol

Posted August 16, 2014 3:33 pm

Bears why are you talking about Golovkin on this thread? Not sure if you’re retarded or just a blockhead. There is a live Golovkin thread for you to post on. Why are you mentioning Mayweather on this thread? Are you an idiot son? Of course you are. Bears we have read too many posts for you where you spill your hatred and it doesn’t reflect well on you. Least you could do is wait for the right threads for you to spill your hatred. Till then stick to the Heavyweights here or p1ss off, son.

Posted August 16, 2014 3:17 pm

Vitali had his assistant sniped out from under him and killed by a sniper bullet. VK better be careful there in Ukraine.

Vern Durn

Why ain’t Wilder fightin one of these guys.

Posted August 16, 2014 2:54 pm

i hope sam peter is training hard and has a good trainer. i cant believe how bad vitaly after 4 years out just destroyed and derailed and demoralized peter.

some haters tried to say peter was fat. look up weigh in photos and and the guy has a 6 pack lol just a ripped beast with a tree trunk for a neck

now if goldon boy and top rank would stop doing all in their power to keep their guys from 3g and let the future number one take over i would appreciate it! the fans are driving 3g’s success and it is getting to the point they are not accepting these bum fights/ al haymon fights.

showtime wont even release fraud vs maidana ppv numbers whats that you?

at least fans daily are climbing on board, supporting 3g, and it will serve to destroy the blockade both goldon boy and too rank have on 3g

Both old bus Driver”s.

Posted August 16, 2014 2:42 pm

Vitali is the man who ruined Peter…

Peter won the World Championship after he fought Wladimir, by smashing a guy, who knocked out a guy, who KO’d Lennox Lewis with one shot.

Leapai beat the crap out of Denis Boytsov, who was 33-0 but had never fought a serious contender before Leapai.

Leapai should knock Peter out with ease. Sam is cooked. Just don’t go to Finland to fight Bob Helenius. Offer to fight him in Sydney or Apia.

Posted August 16, 2014 2:28 pm

Peter’s 100 PERCENT GRADE LEVEL A HYPE. The reason? Because for five years he was one of the Klitschko brother’s main rivals. If Vitali’s best career moment was his comeback win you damn wellknow there’s an agenda to hype Sam. And if Steward says the career defining fight look to be the Sam Peter first fight then you know it’s hype. Peter never knocked out ANYONE who was anywhere near contender status. Williams was his ONLY one punch knockout and got replayed over and over and over and over and over until people though ah yeah this guy’s a proper destroyer. But he wasn’t. Go back and watch his fights. Tomato cans like Gilbert Martinez, Yanqui Diaz and Gabe 700 pound Brown let Peter have free shots on them multoiple times and he never had em out cold. His knockout percentage was all about clubbing fouling and bullying C/D level guys into submission. The only guy he hurt at top level was Maskaev and he still never put him down and out!!! His power is a myth

Fight Aficionado

On paper this should be a good action fight. But I think Peter’s mind isn’t in the game anymore. Hasn’t been the same since Wlad ruined him. And ESB I’ve not posted in 24 hours so no, I’m not posting “too fast.” Software is crap.

Posted August 16, 2014 1:58 pm

can it get any more Laughable then this. you bet.

Posted August 16, 2014 1:58 pm

Bo Bo Olson

Before Helenius’s shoulder surgery, he had ‘frighting’ fluid power.
Didn’t realize Peter was stony broke for that fight; with no training camp.

Posted August 16, 2014 1:30 pm

If Sam can get to around 220-225, it could be entertaining while it lasts. His conditioning will tell us right away if he is serious. Even at his good times, I think he was carrying too much weight. I hope he really wants it.

Posted August 16, 2014 1:16 pm

I never trust a man whose arm is as thick as his head

Posted August 16, 2014 12:59 pm

Leapia is terrible. If sam is in reasonable condition he will win

Posted August 16, 2014 12:07 pm

James Blond

Peter is old news, but what about Helenius? Why has he been out of the ring so long?

Posted August 16, 2014 11:46 am

Sounds the perfect name opponent
No wonder Australian promoters are all over him like hyenas

He sounds so ill prepared I am Surprised Danny Green has not challenged him to the VB XXXX intergalactic Heavyweight title of Ayers Rock

That would make Danny Green a 9 x world champion

Apparently . . .

Posted August 16, 2014 11:05 am

Bill Patrice Jones

DMX just having ‘been’ world champion will not count for much if that champion is so utterly depleted. The last time Peter fought I covered the Marco Huck card. He didn’t have a training camp. He turned up two hours late to the weigh in didn’t give any interviews just made a throw away comment and then came into the ring without a corner?? No trainer and no cutman. Then they decided to make Peter stand instead of sit between rounds to intimidate Helenius??? Not only did Helenius not notice but you’re not intimidating if when you’re standing you can’t breathe properly. If that was then and Peter hasn’t really made a great deal of improvement in dedication then this is about getting a years decent salary to pad his big bank accounts.

Posted August 16, 2014 10:58 am

Unless Sam Peter has been eating KFC tower burgers for 2 x Years he must win this
He is / was World Class
Alex Leapai is Commonwealth Level

Posted August 16, 2014 10:52 am

Australians are making a habit of taking washed up fighters with a name for big fights. Roy Jones, Sugar Shane Mosley, Joshua Clottey (that one backfired for them) and now samuel Peter and Jermaine Taylor.

Posted August 16, 2014 9:47 am

Anything close to a good version of Sam would knock out Lepai. Alex couldn’t last a single round against Klitschko’s power and got hurt and knocked out by Johnson who can’t punch, and was out on his feet against Walker. The Peter of 2010 would knockout Leapai no probs. But man I agree with the author he’s shot as bad as I’ve ever seen a fighter from his last two fights. From the start of the Wlad rematch to now hes gone downhill as fast and as furiously as any heavyweight in history. Trading war that ends in Peter out cold AGAIN

Posted August 16, 2014 9:40 am

Sam is back good fight for both men

Posted August 16, 2014 9:35 am

I THOUGHT PETER was long retired. Will be interesting to see how big he is on his ring return to gauge how serious he is, or is it just to grab a quick buck or two?

Posted August 16, 2014 9:03 am

Da Truth

Good article. Sums up Peters career and heavyweights over the hill pretty much spot on. He must be short of cash if hes going to Australia to fight?? If he had money and just wanted another crack he’d stay stateside fight 3-6 tomato cans and then hope for another big fight.

Sadly the Hatton comparison’s a good one. Fighters who take a punch to land one are a danger to themselves once their punch resistance goes.
