Ok, taking a break from the usual Board Nonsense here. Although I believe Canelo has been spoonfed a steady diet of carefully selected opponents to keep his Hype Train on the Tracks he is finally taking on the Legit opponents at his weight Class.. If Canelo beats Lara Fair and Square I will admit that he is much better then I believed he was. If he loses, which I think he will.. he lost to a legit opponent and not a broken shot hassbeen.. It’s going to be a great Card and since they did stack it with Boriquas like JuanMa, Oquendo vs Mex’s to make sure the PPV gets high numbers I’m sure the PPV numbers should be pretty good. It’ll be a very interesting fight.Posted July 9, 2014 10:07 am
i just think when canelo faces a great counter puncher and true boxing tacticians he becomes slightly timid if the punches dont come to easy for him he slows down. I give the fight to Lara late stoppagePosted July 8, 2014 12:04 am

i know about whats going on with the cartels. it is essentially a civil war. i watched a documentary in whats going on in juarez mexico called narco cultura.
some younger mexicans are actually glorifying likeing the idea of being a narco. which is sad to see. they have music bands that are now making songs glorifying it. its definitely a war with the casualties thats what i would call it.
mexican people will hopefully get it dealt with but jobs are drying up and the american appetite for drugs creates some high paying black market jobs these cartels capitalize on. america needs to legalize drugs to do whats morally right. but the drug business is even making american banks rich, they launder cartel money and they get fines that are like nothing compared to the ammount of money they are making through laundering. they serve no jail time and they are an integral part of this near the top. this is known but rarely publicized or talked about in media. google u can find information. just type big banks laundering drug money.
the only solution to the black market and the violence and mans god given to freedom is to legalize. not turn a blind eye to the fact that people are gonna use drugs. fact o lifePosted July 6, 2014 1:33 pm

If canelo can find a way to defeat an elite slickster like lara he is the real deal . Fighting floyd at 152 was crazy especially given the fact hes a natural 160 fighter. Anyone whos ever struggled to make weight knows boiling down to blow up can be crazy counter productive if u go too far south by one pound . Not making excuses for the kid its up to him to fight at his best weight and credit to floyd for the victory who could nt have known how bad the boil down woulda affected caneloPosted July 4, 2014 2:04 pm
TUMBO! Q-vo! Firstly, Like NEW BLOOD says, I don’t and never have gotten hooked up on P.E.’s/Truth Hurts agendas and neither should he. And now that he mentioned it, I had forgotten his Sanchez vs Gomez “chillon” experience. LOL Anyway, to be honest Cotto made the right move in taking Martinez first, his market has zoomed. You gotta admit that it was a shrewd business move. Canelo will have to win VERY big/convincingly over Lara (I’m picking Canelo to win) to broker a 50-50 deal vs Cotto, otherwise Cotto remains the A-side in the negotiations. According to his top assistant Bryan Perez, whom I’ve known for years, a Canelo fight among the top two fights Cotto is zeroing in on, probably next year. He told me that all the talk about a Bradley fight is only Arum blowing smoke and sending out ‘feelers’ nothing more. Arum controls Bradley and wouldn’t mind pairing them to cash on another in-house promotion. He added that the hopes of a Floyd 2 fight are low, both Cotto and he believe that Floyd will take on Khan after Maidana for obvious reasons and fact that Floyd detests both Arum and Freddie makes the Floyd 2 fight even more distant. Anyway, al’rrato Canal, paz y respeto!Posted July 4, 2014 1:14 pm
“Lara is gonna have to FIGHT to win this bout”
He is, SRedmond, and no one should expect any less. But this fight won’t be a cakewalk for Canelo either. Canelo was confident he would beat Floyd too. But look what happened. Granted, Lara is no Mayweather but he’s good enough to make Alvarez look bad. However, as Fight Aficianado said, we never know which Lara we’re going to see. I’m expecting he is very prepared for this fight and we’ll see the best Lara ever.Posted July 4, 2014 11:42 am
i’m confident that Canelo is working his way up to 160lbs when he accomplishes something meaningful at 154lbs. he’s avoided by fellow jr. middles (e.g., Cotto and Kirkland) and has been waiting for a Lara to step-up. a convincing win will propel him to 160lbs with momentum and leverage to compel additional matchups on even terms, which are never a given being a foreign fighter compelled to fight in the states.Posted July 4, 2014 11:27 am
SQUARED CIRCLE, i know that this multi-posting race-baiter lives in Florida, used to post as someone else back in the day, and resurfaced as many other rabid multi-posting trolls since then including “Public Enema”. the vato google-translates spanish for translation (he apparently doesn’t speak or know any Spanish-speakers) and is obsessed with stirring racist sh*t up on these message boards. you may be able to connect additional dots but it’s a tricky think without direct corroboration from the admins. anyway, as for me, i have disdain for the term “latino”, which i consider the self-loathing way for people to diminish their indian or mestizo origins and am only resigned to the generic “Hispanic” to the degree that it refers to all spanish-speaking people. otherwise, Raza, Chicano, American are the only terms i self-identify with. everything else is political spin originated by everybody else pero nosotros. YOU WOULD THINK THAT CANELO WOULD WANT TO FIGHT IN THE MIDDLEWEIGHT DIVISION ANYWAY. SIMPLY BECAUSE HISTORICALLY IT HAS BEEN A MORE PRESTIGIOUS DIVISION IN BOXING.Posted July 4, 2014 9:48 am
@Te Tumbo & Squared Circle, gracias for the backup. I just thought that I’d make it a point that I won’t caught up in The “Truth” Hurts personal agendas, like my Tio. Coming from boxing loving heritages, we can get fanatically involved for our country’s fighters, but like my Tio says, it’s part of loving the game and enjoying it to the fullest. He says that their loses make their victories all the more sweeter! I was very young when I sat with him and watched Boricua hero Wilfredo Gomez lose to the great Salvador Sanchez. I remember how they paraded Sanchez around the ring while I felt like crying! LOL My Tio smiled, patted me on my shoulder, kissed my forehead & said, “It’s okay, it’s their turn to celebrate.” I didn’t understand it then but when I later read how Gomez had previously defeated Mexican Legend Carlos Zarate and other top Mexican fighters, I clearly understood. It’s all good, even when we disagree. Paz y respeto to ustedes!!Posted July 4, 2014 8:15 am

I’m not a fan of either Canelo or Lara and don’t think this fight should be PPV, but if I had to pick a winner I like Canelo. Lara will give him problems, but I just think of the Angulo fight. Lara got lucky he stopped the dog in that fight. Sure he was beating the hell out of Angulo, but that wasn’t stopping ‘el perro’ from coming forward through those shots. Canelo has much better head movement and more power and is just as tough if not tougher than Angulo. Lara can win, but he’ll have to box Canelo’s ear off. I think Canelo will break Lara down and cut off the ring and win… while taking punishment to do so… but a win is a win.Posted July 4, 2014 7:09 am
Gentlemen, Lara is a more complicated fight for Canelo than Mayweather was. Canelo will be facing a southpaw that is more technical and pin points his shots. Canelo will get hit by that straight left Lara possesses, and as Austin Trout said the other day, “Canelo is going to have a hard time hitting Lara.” Canelo is all fired up because of what Lara has been saying about him, which feeds right into Lara’s hands. Canelo has already lost the mental battle. Lara said those things to purposely feed Canelo’s bully, tough guy, machismo type mentality. Canelo is not a fighter that pressures opponents and attacks like the great Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. once did. He’s a counter puncher with some power. He won’t move up to 160 because he can’t bully his opponents and he doesn’t have a size advantage on them. Don’t be surprised if you see Canelo dropped. Canelo will be out boxed and get desperate as the fight progresses. His stamina and weight he puts on after the weigh in is no good. Canelo’s only chance is to catch Lara cold otherwise you will see a boxing clinic. The only other way Lara loses is of course Las Vegas Officials and the city need a big draw to keep money coming in, and Canelo has that. Canelo needs to stay at 154 because GGG and the rest of those guys destroy him. A bully always fights the smaller guys and stays away from the bigger, stronger guys. Unfortunately for him, sometimes the smaller, smarter more skilled boxers beat the bullies.Posted July 4, 2014 1:00 am
meanwhile, i appreciate your thoughts on this Canelo v. Lara who as you describe is uneven. IMO, potent pressure is what rattles him most and when his punches don’t compel Canelo to respect his space, Saul is gonna bust him up like Angulo could only begin too. if Canelo doesn’t(?), i just don’t think he’s all that. Lara is a fighter he should and must defeat.Posted July 3, 2014 10:49 pm

We can both trace our roots to Spain along with other parts of the world but we both come from Spanish speaking households, just like you. It’s a BLOOD thing. The Spanish language is a part of the Ibero-Romance group of languages, which evolved from several dialects of common LATIN, thus the word Latinos. I’m aware of your somewhat warped breakdown. Te Tumbo Hola mano Latino! After playing back some of Lara’s fights with my family of boxing freaks the general consensus was that Lara will fall short and Canelo will take a UD. I agree with the consensus, Lara is just too inconsistent. Besides Canelo’s loss to Floyd, there’s not much negative stuff you can say, not quite so with Lara. Paz to Te Tumbo!Posted July 3, 2014 4:43 pm

fair enough but i still maintain that it will be impossible for Lara to punch Canelo with impunity. Canelo’s prime speed and reflexes won’t allow that. Lara will be countered and counter-attacked every time he scores. don’t think Lara will be able to sustain the varied pressure that i anticipate Canelo will apply.Posted July 3, 2014 4:25 pm

@te tumbo I’m okay with that but the “too fast” seemed a bit unrealistic. I like Canelo’s chances but will have to trench in and stick to his game plan and not mentally freeze like he did vs FMJ. Regards.Posted July 3, 2014 3:33 pm
FA, Lara engaged Molina and Williams and took a lot of shots. he boxed Vanes and appeared evasive. a depleted and plodding Angulo and was dropped twice. i’m confident that Canelo has the peaking talent, skills, and energy to Punish a Lara who engages (e.g., Angulo) and regularly tag a Lara who boxes (e.g., Trout). i don’t see any breakaway talent from Lara that would indicate he can outpunch or outbox Canelo. i’m expecting something similar to Marquez v. Casamayor or Crawford v. Gamboa with Lara on the losing side.Posted July 3, 2014 3:19 pm
“You say that Canelo is too fast??” NO. i posted that he’s too fast to NOT tax Lara (i.e., counter) for any of his scoring punches. whether he likes it or not, there will be no unanswered punches for Lara. scoring or otherwise. i’m convinced that Canelo plans to chin- and gut-check Lara throughout. confident that he will then choose to evade rather than engage and lose a UD at worst, a KO/TKO at best.Posted July 3, 2014 3:13 pm
“Blasted is precisely what i’m anticipating will happen to Lara. Canelo’s too fast to not tax Lara for any scoring punches and Lara isn’t durable enough to take 12-rounds of stalking…” – Tumbo, if the Lara who beat Angulo shows up your scenario is likely. But the thing is we never know about him. Sometimes he bangs sometimes he boxes, but rather than choosing the style that best fits the opponent he seems to fluctuate depending on his mood. There were lots of guys he could’ve KTFO but he inexplicably chose to box. This is a hard fight to predict.Posted July 3, 2014 2:46 pm
Lara is gonna have to FIGHT to win this bout, to his credit he showed some stones when Angulo had him down but Saul is not a shopworn, punching bag like Angulo… He is a budding star and knows he cannot fall to another 154 pounder and expect those PPV dates to continue… Lara takes his time TOO much, and he is not gonna get any favors against Alvarez as it pertains to judging so he will need to make a strong case and pursuit of that strong case will open him up to Canelos HARD shots to the body and head..Posted July 3, 2014 2:30 pm

Lara will cruise to a UD in this one. Easy money to be made on this one.Posted July 3, 2014 1:05 pm

@te tumbo You say that Canelo is too fast?? Pardon me are you talking about WHAT? He’s not known for being “two fast” of anything. Yea he has decent hand speed when confronting easy to hit turtles guys like Angulo, Kermit, Alfonso, Matt Hatton and a way beyond wasted Mosely but couldn’t do jack sh*t against a pretty stationary FMJ! Too fast? Show me. regards.Posted July 3, 2014 1:01 pm
“all things being equal, Canelo is just as fast, presumably bigger, and definitely stronger with a more explosive punch.”
But he does not move as well as Lara nor is he as technically proficient. Additionally, Lara easily dominated Trout whereas Canelo barely squeaked out a win over Trout. Additionally, Canelo got Angulo after Lara had already beat him up.
Lara learns from his mistakes just like most fighters do. If Canelo plans to explode on him like he did Angulo, he’s in for disappointment. Lara will be no fool in this fight. It should be a good style matchup and a very exciting clash.Posted July 3, 2014 12:26 pm
Blasted is precisely what i’m anticipating will happen to Lara. Canelo’s too fast to not tax Lara for any scoring punches and Lara isn’t durable enough to take 12-rounds of stalking and pounding from Canelo. moreover, Lara has demonstrated a lack of potency to own the inside. that will also be Canelo’s turf to win or lose. all things being equal, Canelo is just as fast, presumably bigger, and definitely stronger with a more explosive punch. Canelo is no plodder like Vanes and hits harder than Williams. in fact, Canelo only wishes Lara engages him in those type of exchanges. at which point, the KO for Canelo becomes likely if not inevitable.Posted July 3, 2014 12:16 pm
Lara should be going for the KO if he can really bang up Alvarez he makes the case for a possible Mayweather discussion a close points win or loss makes him a non factor when coupled with his low profile amongst mainstream boxing fans… I think he is gonna get blasted by Canelo for some reason.Posted July 3, 2014 12:00 pm

What’s the difference between Boxtradumas and a turd?? answer: Nothing!
What’s the difference between Correctamundo and two bags of turds? answer: The bags!
What would you get if you paint Accubox with vomit? answer: An improvement!Posted July 3, 2014 11:59 am
Lara wins convincingly…if he can’t secure a fight with Mayweather after this fight…He should then fight Demetrius Andrade that way we can see who is the best Jr middleweight? Much respect to Carnello for taking this fight and not ducking…Posted July 3, 2014 11:52 am

“But he says he can make 154 and feels comfortable there. So again GGG should not be brought up as an opponent until he moves to 160.”
Why not? Alvarez can easily–and I do mean EASILY–fight at 160.Posted July 3, 2014 10:55 am

I see Canelo looking very good against Lara, this idea that Lara is untouchable is not supported by some of the tough moments he has had… The guy can box, but he is nobodys 154 pound Mayweather with Angulo getting that much leather on him and the Molina bout… Alvarez is gonna be pressing for the win and he has the power to really hurt Lara unlike Trout…Posted July 3, 2014 10:10 am
SATAN IS MEXICAN
One thing i will say for Canelo is that at least he ADMITTED that he lost to Floyd, very uncommon for a mexican, besides I’m not a fan of sht tawkin Lara at all. Glad his compadre Gamboa got his azz KTFO. Word!Posted July 3, 2014 9:21 am
Well said Boxtra. You are truly the GREATEST!Posted July 3, 2014 9:09 am
SATAN IS MEXICAN
yea, yea, yea and boxtradumazz will later do a “it wasn’t me” if Canelo doesn’t score a stoppage OR the fkin coward will say “I was “right” anyway because he won” OR do his customary FLIP FLOP act. Word!Posted July 3, 2014 9:01 am
Canelo will cruise to a late TKO over the overrated Lara.Posted July 3, 2014 8:34 am
Can Alvarez still make the 154lbs limit. Sooner or later he has to go up to 160lbs where he truly belongs. Lots of sharks swimming in that division.Posted July 3, 2014 7:51 am
Another sad day for floyd dumb dumbs
He doesn’t feel comfortable at 154 as he fought angulo at 155 and this fight is 155. If 154 is where it’s at then make 154 as 156 gets a shot at a middleweight apparently.Posted July 3, 2014 5:54 am

Canelo is really 175 lbs. He is a huge JMW he comes in fight night with a weight advantage but it didn’t matter against Floyd he still got schooled easy…Posted July 3, 2014 3:45 am
Props to Lara for Calling Canelo out and taking the fight to him. More fighters need to do the same to be the best you have to beat the best. This is a test for Lara to see what he is made of the jury is still out on the guy…Posted July 3, 2014 3:43 am
He should f u c k ing well make 154lbs then and stop fighting in the MW division against JMW’s.Posted July 3, 2014 1:48 am
But he says he can make 154 and feels comfortable there. So again GGG should not be brought up as an opponent until he moves to 160Posted July 3, 2014 1:02 am
I imagine the reason people are bringing GGG up is because Canelo is fighting at 155 which is the middleweight division.
But he isn`t fighting against middleweights.
Even when he WAS fighting at JMW, he had a tendency to be fighting WW’s like Matt Hatton and Lopez.
He likes to tilt the scales so to speak.Posted July 3, 2014 12:29 am
“Alvarez has no business fighting at 154. He’ll likely cheat on his weight again just to get the size advantage over Lara.” – Maybe. Canelo has grown a lot the last few years and is a pretty big jr middleweight. I saw a pic of him and GGG together and he’s way bigger. He must be drying out like a MFer to make 154.Posted July 3, 2014 12:27 am
Nothing but throwaway quotes generated by GBP publicist so they may or may not have been said. How’s Canelo training camp going? Is he working hard or slacking off again? Rumor had it his conditioning has been poor for some fights.Posted July 3, 2014 12:26 am
I just can’t shake the image of Canelo vs FMJ. Canelo fought like a b1tch and has real stamina issues. I can see Lara taking him down the home stretch but will young Saul have banked enough rounds by then? I like this match-up.
Sticking with Lara on points at this time.Posted July 2, 2014 11:41 pm
He was fighting at a young age. Doesn’t matter who he was fighting, he was still fighting men as a boy. Not saying he has a great record but it is not terrible.Posted July 2, 2014 11:05 pm
Tark – Canelo’s got one of the most padded Bogus records in all of Boxing. 2/3’s of his fights were in Mexico against Cantina Drunks with Zero Boxing experience. It’s another age old trick used by these south of the Border cheats to make themselves look much better. Remove all the crap fights Canelo had starting at 12 years old against drunken bums and he’s only got about 12 fights worth mentioning.. and most of those were against smaller old shot worn fighters like Angulo, Josesito Lopez, Cintron etc.. He’s just a hype job just like Chavez Jr, abner Mares and Mikey Peds Garcia..Posted July 2, 2014 10:37 pm
Lara has half the pro fights Canelo has… Because of his amateur experience, and his age, they put him in main events very quickly.. Probably too quickly.. No matter how many amateur fights you have, you need that pro experience to transition your skills.
With the Trout fight, it looks like he finally has the package.. He’s made the adjustments he needed to.Posted July 2, 2014 9:48 pm
Another sad day for floyd dumb dumbs
Lara will hit the deck inside 4 but get up and struggle till the 9thPosted July 2, 2014 9:33 pm
Confused why GGG is being brought up. He fights at 160. Canelo is gonna stop Lara. Lara has struggled with lesser fighters and was lucky to come out with wins or draws.Posted July 2, 2014 9:05 pm
Lara’s a overrated and barely beat Freddy Hernandez. Dude’s gonna catch a beating from the Ginger warrior! HOLLA AT ME!!Posted July 2, 2014 8:21 pm
This Canelo dude is gonna wreck Lara like he was the red headed stepchild! Holla at me!!Posted July 2, 2014 8:17 pm
It’s worse than that he’s dead Gym
Canelo is a daywalker freak b1tch who is terrified of the slapping his dirty freckled botty cheeks will get the moment he enters the GGG sharktank.
GGG will punch him so hard his freckles will be all over the ring, landing in peoples drinks, getting stuck to the TV cameras.Posted July 2, 2014 8:06 pm
Canelo doesn’t seem to confident on moving up to the middleweight division. He has somewhat of a bully complex where he likes to be the bigger guy. Unfortunately, technique, skills and conditioning win fights. I see him trying to be the bully and pressuring Lara, which by the way he should have done against Mayweather. Lara is a slick southpaw that has excellent defense, and he can punch a little. Trout said it best ” Canelo is going to have a tough time hitting Lara.” Lara is a technician that will make Canelo hesitant. Canelo loads up on too many punches and telegraphs them. Lara has already gotten into Canelo’s head, which is exactly what Lara wants. An angry fighter is a fighter that can get hit quite often. Expect Canelo to be wobbled or dropped in this fight. Canelo can’t even make 154 comfortably. He has stamina issues. This will in fact be an interesting fight, but unless Canelo catches Lara cold, he will not win this fight. Trout is not the type of southpaw Lara is, and Canelo is going to find that out.Posted July 2, 2014 6:25 pm
canelo by late round win. he will bite lara out of hunger and get a gift decision.Posted July 2, 2014 6:21 pm
Alvarez has no business fighting at 154. He’ll likely cheat on his weight again just to get the size advantage over Lara.Posted July 2, 2014 5:51 pm
Canelo still has alot to learn it seems like he has troubles making 154 maybe he should move up. Also he takes breaks during rounds experienced guys like Floyd will make him pay for that…Posted July 2, 2014 4:59 pm
Gamboa vs canelo 5-3 -15 cause he only fights small guysPosted July 2, 2014 3:55 pm

the classic modern hype job.Posted July 2, 2014 2:18 pm
Yeap, and get ready for the Goldenboy excuses about how Canelo had trouble making weight and he’s no longer going to fight at 154lbs.. setting up another Bogus couple of matches at 160+lbs vs whatever bums they can find.. avoiding the true top guys.. it’s all a sham.. it’s just about making money…Posted July 2, 2014 1:19 pm
Canelo’s barely surviving at 154lb level He’s going to get killed if he ever steps up to fight guys his true size at 160+lbs like GGG, Kirkland, Quillin, Adonis Stevenson.. etc..Posted July 2, 2014 1:08 pm
Lara will PUNISH Cinnamon boy and force him to retire on his stool after 8 rounds.Posted July 2, 2014 12:56 pm
Lara by late punishing TKO!Posted July 2, 2014 12:55 pm
“I feel really comfortable fighting at 154 pounds and probably will stay in this weight class my whole career.”
That’s why he looked dead versus Floyd at 152 … and paid a massive fine for coming in at 155 for Angulo… He let Angulo’s team know he wasn’t going to be able to make the weight, which is nice of him.
He negotiated an above-the-weight fight for Lara — even though a World Title would be available at 154… Those are all signs that 154 isn’t comfortable for Canelo anymore… so who does he think he’s kidding?Posted July 2, 2014 12:12 pm
