I love Boxing more than any other sport… however, Kickboxing is tougher to learn… and MMA is much tougher to learn than Kickboxing.
An MMA player tries to master everything a boxer or kickboxer does—with much smaller gloves… The gloves are tiny.
Plus he has to learn wrestling… throws… submission holds… escapes… drops… knee and elbow striking techniques… The superman punch… and other exotic attacks and defenses..
It’s a lot of stuff to learn… It’s a long training day. You’re better off as a boxer — but some guys love the challenge of trying to learn that much, taking greater risks with their health … and not making nearly as much money as a boxer.
Chris Algieri decided at age 23 that the smart thing was to switch to boxing… even though people told him he was “too old.”Posted June 15, 2014 1:29 am
Useless discussion. Provo could not close the gap on a moving boxer and Freddy failed to correct that weakness on Provo. Tonight is the Provo I have seen many times on ESPN. A guy that plods ahead looking to land that one blow. There is no way Provo would have won against Manny Pacquiao who can box and punch. And speaking about kickboxers who regularly get hit on the head by round house kicks, did Provo really think he could KO Algieri with one left hook? Kickboxers and MMAers are tough MTFKS and boxers better start accepting that.Posted June 15, 2014 1:19 am
whether kickboxing is “tougher” than boxing is a debate no-one can really answer. but boxing is undeniably more beautiful to watch. infact I find muay thai an ugly sport to watch. horses for coursesPosted June 14, 2014 11:45 pm

I dont understand what you guys dont get. How can someone that only throws and block punchs beat a fighter that uses fists elbows knees kicks and sweep. They cant in a real fight. Again thats why boxers box cause its much safer and secure they dont do mma cause its far more dangerous and the ref dont constantly break up when it gets ruff.Posted June 14, 2014 9:32 pm

I don’t know this Algieri. From what I’ve read in-between the usual sniping is that he possesses decent skills and some think better than Provo. However the majority think that Provo will eventually steamroll over the top. Algieri looks strong and confident from the pictures, is he a chance? Provo, although a crowd pleaser, is not even close fundamentally to a perfect fighter.Posted June 14, 2014 6:33 pm

Tark “It’s like getting divorced and remarried”
Are you talking from experience?Posted June 14, 2014 4:43 pm
KOrnerman says.., “Tark sir I disagree, kickboxing isn’t tougher than boxing”
Disagree all you want … but you have to perfect both kicks and punches for Kickboxing—and learn how to defend both. Punching is natural for any athlete. Some of the kicks you have to learn take a much longer time to master. You work on them fanatically for hours.
Money isn’t the biggest motivator for a lot of people. You’ve probably made decisions in your life that cost you financially—but you had your own reason for making them.
Once you’ve learned some hard won skills it’s hard to give them up to do something that only makes sense—because it’s more financially rewarding. You tend to believe in the sport you were brought up with—and were indoctrinated in… It’s almost like religion.
You do have converts… It’s like getting divorced and remarried… only harder emotionally.Posted June 14, 2014 4:34 pm
Algieri has some decent skills that could spring the upset only if he can handle and embrace the pressure of being in his first big fight and handle the relentless attack from a strong puncher like Provodnikov. Ruslan is a mentally tough fighter that breaks you down mentally and physically. He comes to fight. and as he says, he doesn’t like guys running, but he trains for them. Algieri IMO is going to hit Ruslan quite often, but I’m not sure he has a big enough punch to hurt the Siberian Rocky. Ruslan comes only one direction, has no defense and will take punches. Algieri is a bright guy outside the ring. He has to be even smarter inside against Ruslan. He has to be the real ROCKY in this fight because no one is giving him a chance. Ruslan has a lot of experience, and loves to fight especially when the tough gets going. Algieri has nevr fought anyone like this guy, but the smarter fighter sometimes beats the tougher fighter. Algieri has to get through the first five rounds in order to have a chance. If he does, look for the upset.Posted June 14, 2014 4:32 pm

Vitali knew he could make many millions as a boxer, but never even make a million as a kick boxer… That’s the main reason most highly successful kickboxers switch to Boxing… It’s the money … and they stopped getting kicked in the head.
Plus… they stop smashing up their legs and feet… That’s a bonus.Posted June 14, 2014 3:44 pm

Kickboxing is a much tuffer sport period. Knees kicks elbows punches and take downs. Boxing just punches. kicks are twice as powerful as punch and can be delivered many more ways. Front kick rounhhouse sidekick spin kick just to name a fiew. Flying knees are devasting. Elbows hurt far more than punchs. Thats why boxers dont do mma cause that cant take the pain.Posted June 14, 2014 2:29 pm

Algieri is a good athlete, but This is a premature matchup… Chris is tough, strong, fast, smart, and has decent power – but no amateur background and only 20 fights. Ali fought Liston when he had 19 pro fights – but Ali had 108 amateur fights, Algieri has zero and that’s a problem.
He had 20 kickboxing matches. That’s a tougher and more complicated sport, but way different from Boxing. Algieri had to change his stance and unlearn a massive amount.
He could possibly score an upset, but he ought to round out his skills before taking on a puncher of this caliber. If he were facing Khan or Bradley he would be fine. He would go the distance and learn a lot…
Provodnikov could possibly derail his budding career so he’s the wrong guy for a green guy with his skill level. We’ll find out how tough Algieri is for sure. We know Bradley is tough as nails … and he got hurt.
With 5 more fights and Algieri would beat Provo. Opponents such as Judah, Soto, Vargas, Herrera, Raheem, Alvarado, lundy, and Peterson would give him the defensive skills he needs.Posted June 14, 2014 1:44 pm

Bears will allege corruption, ineptitude outright insanity or ANYTHING else if he does not like the fighter who won or the result it’s a running JOKE.. He likes to preface his overruling decisions with “I looked at the tape and rescored the fight this or that” ALWAYS in favor of his guy!! What a surprise! He is also VERY liberal in his use of the term “smoked” which should connote a slaughter or lopsided fight ie Cotto vs Martinez or Pacquaio vs ODH, whereas this bonehead will say “Maidana smoked Mayweather” when that’s in such stark defiance of the action it’s a serious joke..There are some well known robberies or controversys on boxing ie Lewis vs Holyfield I or Pacquaio vs Bradley I where sentiment is overwhelming (Lara vs Williams also) Bears sees theM ALL the time!! I have no clue why he watches boxing when his guy losing is NOT an option..I remember when Garcia beat Matthysee Clearly (I thought Matthysee would win) Beard wanted a rematch and basically just invalidated the win… He was MAD when the ref gave a Champ of Bradley’s stature the chance to continue in that first round against Provo instead of stopping the fight and handing Provodnikov Bradley’s belt… This guy cannot accept a result he does not like without excuses, equivocations and conspiracies he’s not a fight fan, just a low life HICK with a TV..Posted June 14, 2014 11:18 am

Oracle of Boxpollo
Good morning. Today is the dawn of a new era. I decided to do my announcement a day early and early in the morning to minimize the imposters doing fake announcements. Now to get the obvious out-of-the-way. I am not Boxtradamus and not any of these imposters that have wrongfully tormented this man. Boxstra has actually learned a lot of his greatness from me as he was a student of mine that led me to this great site.
I have a true gift of accurately predicting flights. I am not the greatest fight prophet ever born because I was never born but rather I have descended down to show everyone the gifts you will see in the upcoming months and years.
Just like any great oracle or prophet of their timeI expect a lot of ridiculing to me as well as people falsely posting under my name. But please understand Unlike my student I will not get involved with the bickering or defending because it’s simply beneath me. I will do nothing but accurately pick fights when they are announced and stick with it. In the rare times where a fighter did not take my advice or lost for some other strange reason I will admit wrongdoing and move forward.
Thank you everybody and I look forward to a new era of fight predicting on this site.
I am the ORACLE of Boxing. inspired by the Boxing Gods and granted foresight into the FUTURE.Posted June 14, 2014 9:24 am

provo won by points and tko’ed bradely in the first round.
first round provo knocked bradley down and bradley popped back up and then proceeded to do a reversal into a face plant for a second knock down. the ref did not rule any knockdowns. lol
