Hatton LOL
Malignaggi was giving it some lip before the fight
and as soon as he got hit with that big right in round2
just held and survived as Ricky worked him over.
Beautiful :D

Retire Paulie.

dick tiger

Paulie’s fight against Cotto tells you a great deal about him. Some fighters that were out gunned as badly as Paulie was would have been looking for a way way out. Paulie did everything he could to win the fight. Paulie showed his heart that night, and has had my respect due to his effort in that fight.

Posted May 20, 2014 2:08 am

Sweet Science

Paulie’s skills in his prime, his speed, jab and footwork, plus he had a chin. Paulie had everything except power. He would have gave Money May a run for his money. Paulie was alot faster and used his legs more in his prime Dont forget styles make fights. Like Khan he will struggle against a power puncher but beats a boxer everytimes.

Posted May 20, 2014 1:17 am

What would be the point of Malignaggi continuing his career at this point? I’ve never liked Paulie as a fighter, but he’s one of the best commentators in the game and I enjoy listening to him call fights on Showtime. He is not going to win another title at 140 or 147 at this point in his career so what’s the point in continuing to fight? … so he can be a punching bag against another up and comer like Thurman or Porter?

Paulie and Judah got way more mileage out of their careers than any other boxer based on their limited ability. Zab was once actually an A level fighter, but never best in his division. Paulie has never been a A level fighter. Only won titles when matched against paper champs. He has skill and fast hands, but no pop. And never the fastest hands in his division. He should retire, but he can stay in the game because Mayweather would fight him and people would be dumb enough to buy it.

He paid his dues already, it’s time to cash in without getting hurt, commentator is a good profession especially if you know what you’re talking about, Paulie still got some fights in him but not enough left to claim another title, good luck to him

i do wonder sometimes, people with so much distaine for a man as talented as paulie. respect for any man who enters the ring, but people putting a multiple weight world champion down? strange.he may not have heavy hands but that doesnt make him poor, he used his skill to achieve what we mere mortals can only dream of. keyboard warriors! we can only assume you do not like or appreciate boxing.

“Malignaggi look like one of those gay walking around Santa Monica bl. in los Angeles.” – Actually, I saw him in Santa Monica years ago when he was training in LA. He goes for the typical Guido look though, it’s how they dress.

Mime Tyson

Paulie need to rematch porter, and stop playing around box him, and keep hand up and keep your distance says Floyd, Then it would have been as close as my maidana fight.

Posted May 19, 2014 1:24 pm

Paulie has a lot going for him outside the ring. He’s intelligent, respected, has a good personality, he’s a likeable guy with the gift of the gab. He doesn’t just have to be a boxing commentator, with his personality, he could do a broad range of shows on TV. Paulie is lucky, he’s TV friendly. Not many boxers have that, Paulie could be just as successful in the world of TV (and not just in the USA) as he was in the ring. Inside the ring, he should call it a day. He’s had a very good career, he can have no complaints, he’s well respected by the vast majority in the fight game, in and out of the ring.

You’ve taken enough beatings Paulie, it’s time to hang up the gloves. It’s time to move into the world of TV and be successful there. Good lucky buddy!

Posted May 19, 2014 12:55 pm

I wonder how Paulie would do as a trainer. He is smart but doesn’t have the punch to keep people off of him and his skills while still decent are slipping fast. Maybe he could put some of his ring smarts in to a younger gun. Otherwise, he is still a good commentator. Respect Paulie.

Posted May 19, 2014 11:48 am

Paulie is a gutty guy that said he has long ago peaked as a fighter, he has been World Class but he lacks the power to stay on top for very long.. Getting Blown out is the signal to give the game up, he likely won’t because his name will still sell but its not a good idea to face heavy handed boxers going forward they are gonna gun for his head..

Posted May 19, 2014 11:13 am

Not only does Paulie have skills and a great ring IQ, he brought style and flash to the game, it is always fun to watch Paulie fight. Will he be a HOFamer? probably not but this guy always has balls and comes to fight. I would love to see him move down to 140 and try something there. I think he can make more noise at 140. Good luck Paulie in whatever you do, no shame in a loss, the best lost, this is boxing.

Posted May 19, 2014 9:55 am

yep, plenty of gutless keyboard warriors here who have done nothing in their lives and yet they have the nerve to put Paulie down. He’s been a quality boxer, hard as nails, he never gives up, multiple world champion, paulie has done more in his life than any of these keyboard losers ever will.

Posted May 19, 2014 9:05 am

Gotta love all these keyboard commandos that put down Malignaggi. Sure, he isn’t the hardest puncher in the world, but not a single one of you Marys would last one round with him.

Posted May 19, 2014 8:22 am

Khan’s Cuz Achmed

Paulie should fight Mia St. John. That would be a WAR!

Posted May 19, 2014 7:05 am

boxing barlow

The Paulie hate on here is ridiculous!

Posted May 19, 2014 4:15 am

Malignaggi look like one of those gay walking around Santa Monica bl. in los Angeles. He can make more money being a gay prostitute than boxing..

Posted May 19, 2014 2:05 am

Malignaggi should definitely retire. He’ll be better off cooking sphaghetti & ravioli.

Posted May 19, 2014 2:00 am

Paulies attributes used to be speed, footwork, and a crisp jab 1-12 rounds.. Those attributes require youth and finesse..the folks who last past 40 years of age are the ones who still have enough power to keep guys at bay.. Paulie doesnt.. Paulie is an outstanding commentator.. Just leave it at that..

Posted May 18, 2014 11:16 pm

Posted May 18, 2014 10:00 pm

Yes he should. Just stick to commentating. He is great at it and he is too small for welterweight, especially with these big welters. He said every punch he was hit with by Porter hurt. If that is happening now then it is time to hang them up.

Posted May 18, 2014 9:15 pm

Look at all the losers here putting Paulie down, a former multiple world, millionaire, who has achieved far more in one year of his life than any of these losers will ever achieve in theirs. LOL

Retire Paulie, good luck to you.

Posted May 18, 2014 8:22 pm

Bye now Paulie, you powerless punching bag. You stink

Posted May 18, 2014 7:52 pm

enough already

Paule is another c-level fighter he reminds me of Zab Judah maybe because they both from Brooklyn, he folded when he came up against good fighters everything but has no trouble beating the under links. He is better off commentating otherwise he gets dropped retire before you end up brain dead..

When a fighter talks about retiring he should retire straight away. Not the kind of sport to stay in when your not 100% committed. Retire

Why is this even a topic? Retirement is the only option unless he wants to continue to receive beatings.

Posted May 18, 2014 7:20 pm

who really cares

Posted May 18, 2014 7:09 pm

Retire, save your brain, make money as a commentator. If he has learned or is learning to save properly, invest properly, handle his money properly, just generally…don’t F-up, he will do quite well from here on out. That is, as long as he has a healthy MIND/Brain intact. RETIRE, enjoy life.

Bishop takes Horsey.

First time ere, I won 5 world titles that are as legitimate as the ones Paulie won.

Plus I won the world championship of the 5 county misquito district in southern MS.

Posted May 18, 2014 5:53 pm

Well trolled author, well trolled.

Posted May 18, 2014 5:44 pm

First time ere

@ Bishop – so Paulie fluked his way to becoming a multiple world champ? How many world titles have you held aloft champ?

Posted May 18, 2014 5:37 pm

Bishop takes Horsey.

Malignaggi is not and never has been as good a boxer as people make out.

He’s a mouthy irrelevance people beat up to avoid a proper fight.

Posted May 18, 2014 5:29 pm

porter showed where paulie is. he can’t box, punch, or defend. he’s been lucky because there’re only so many flubs for him to shadow box. whenever he steps up he gets stopped. since porter is the best he’s ever faced why continue? he’ll never share a ring with anybody better. porter should be fighting floyd not pm. the fool matchmakers get the matchups bass ackwards. night now pm

Posted May 18, 2014 5:20 pm

retirement is a sensible conclusion. this guy has had a fantastic resume. why not retire now or face life in obscurity. hes not exactly shy so why would he want to play a bit part. i do not think he has championship bouts left in him, so hes doing the right thing, bowing out with dignity and grace. well done to him, he has been a fantastic addition to the sport of boxing.

Posted May 18, 2014 4:38 pm

Paulie has really good boxing skills and a good chin. He reminds me a bit of Jesse James Leija with even worse punching power. He just needs to retire. He still has his mental faculties together but he needs to stop before he gets James Toneyed. I like him as an announcer but against anybody top caliber in the ring….pphhhtt it’s painful to watch the punishment he absorbs.

Posted May 18, 2014 4:36 pm

Pauli should retire, he has had a good career accomplished plenty no need to take any more beatings. Best of luck to him anyway.

Paulie Malignaggi should retire.

Posted May 18, 2014 3:49 pm

The Writer puts me in mind of the corner men who allow their fighter to take a merciless beating round after round ,won’t throw in the towel, give no specific advice, and just act as cheer leaders. Paulie, if you read these posts , do the smart thing and call it a career.Don’t wind up punch drunk.

Posted May 18, 2014 3:46 pm

dick tiger

Why didn’t you just write an article about Shaw Porter?

Posted May 18, 2014 3:44 pm

Without reading the artical I say yes he should. I don’t see Pauli competing with any of the top 10 WW’s.

Posted May 18, 2014 3:32 pm

Paulie himself will ultimately decide. However it is clear to me that he should retire and stay retired. Getting punched in the head for a living is not cool especially when you have another source of income

Posted May 18, 2014 3:29 pm

Mike Tyson

He was taken to the hospital for a check out, guess he need more of that then after he start takeing dribblish and he lose his job as a commentor then he can retire. Is that what you mean?

Posted May 18, 2014 2:52 pm

New Found Glory

His analysis of his last opponent that send him to the losing corner didn’t seem to have made any valuable lesson to be learned by him.

Retire before he gets beat by lesser man and becomes a bum.

The type that would say paulie should keep fighting are the type that also complain and cry when fighters end up with parkinsons and punch drunk.

Posted May 18, 2014 2:01 pm

This writer is punch drunk and shud not write any more articles that clearly don’t make sense. Paulie is better as a analyst before he wind’s up hurt in a coma … Paulie is a good boxing commentator and had good boxing knowledge.

Posted May 18, 2014 1:56 pm

Paulie needs to quit.

He had his time.

Save his brain cells for his commentary career.

Posted May 18, 2014 1:22 pm

Big Ham

I did not even read the article. The title was all that was neccesary… Paulie definitely should retire. He could have retired when he was dismantled and had the $hit beat out of him by Hatton and Khan. That compiled with the 100 hard rabbit punches he took from Lovemore N’dou and the broken face he received from Miguel Cotto are probably enough acrrued punishment for him to consider calling it a career when measured against his accomplishments and the money he made. Paulie had a bit of a revival at 147 by being appropirately matched against mid level just below the elite level competition. Good for him. The problem is when you win those fights you get advanced to the next caliber and that is where Paulie is gonna really get creamed. Factor that in with Paulie’s toughness, and injury proneness and everything points to a well earned retirement. End of story.
