Up until the point of the stoppage I thought Arreola to be ahead 3to two rounds.

@Boxtradamus…I think you have really good boxing knowledge, I agree with you most of the time when predicting these fights…Who do you got between Stiverne n Wilder? I think Deontay will stop him within 7.

KL.., You’re exactly correct.. The right hand worked in the first Arreola fight and Stiverne went back to it… He knew he would get scoring opportunities with both hands with the kind of sloppy stuff Arreola throws when he comes in swarming.

All he needed to do as be patient. He obviously watched the first fight a lot of times and got down what he wanted to do. Chris’s jab is something he could work off of and he definitely was watching it like a hawk.

Antonio Tarver.., “I never watch or study my opponents’ fights. They might fight me entirely different than somebody else … but I DID watch the Roy Jones fight a lot preparing for the rematch.. I was hitting Roy a lot and should have won by a mile — but for the rematch I wanted to hit Roy a lot harder.. I wanted to knock him out and take it out of the hands of the judges.

At that time a lot of people thought Roy was unbeatable — and that can have a big effect on the way they score a fight.”

Stiverne obviously had a clear game plan, and that was to achieve a KO, and in doing so was prepared to sacrifice a few rounds, so those still scrutinizing the scores of each round haven’t quite understood what the game plan was…….Stiverene was going for the KO because he knew Arrello would be vunerable to his big right……even Arrello says “He caught me with the same f**cking right hand!”

Posted May 11, 2014 8:04 pm

KL

BEARS it’s not so much that Stiverne “” Arreolla, it’s more to do with the fact that Stiverene has stopped Arreolla, dropped 3 times and broke his nose all in just 18 rounds.
Now say what you like about Arrello regarding his lack of skills or fitness, but there is no denying he is tough dude that doesn’t get dropped or stopped too often, but Stiverne has managed it.
As for Arrelo dominating Stiverne, I don’t think he did, sure Arrella had a good second round, but Stiverene was counter punching pretty well in most of the rounds, and as Stiverne says himself, his plan was to lull Arrelo into a false sence of security and then unleash with his big right as he did last time they fought each other, and it paid off for Stiverene.
Now you may not believe what Stiverene says, but I’d say there some truth in how he himself called the fight.

“since when are the opinions of commentators super accurate???”

so we should just go with your score squared circle? arreola was getting hit harder and more accurately. chris was leaving himself wide open by throwing fluff.

I had Arreola up 3-2 in rounds after 5. No domination going on for sure. No boxing lesson going on. It’s a 12 round fight and Stiverne took the lead in the 6th in a seesaw battle. That means Chris would have had to do a lot better in the 2nd half of the fight if he was able to survive those pinpoint power punches. Berm was doing the sharper and more accurate work.

My argument is perfectly sound an logical. I gave BS round 1. But he lost rounds 2, 3, 4 and 5. CA was up 4-1 going into the 6th. So clearly, it’s your argument that doesn’t work here.

BTW…since when are the opinions of commentators super accurate??? A lot of times their comments and scoring is off the mark. Most real boxing fans are well aware of that.

Posted May 11, 2014 4:23 pm

squared circle, your argument doesn’t work. bermane won the first round clearly by hurting chris badly. the commentators had him winning. he was ahead 3 points in round 6 because of the 2 kds. there are only 4 other rounds other than the 1st and the 6th. even if arreola won all the middle rounds, and he didn’t, he still cannot be winning.

the man landing the most effective punches is doing the better job of boxing dude.

Love-the-Sport: You’re an IDIOT, demonstrated by the fact that I NEVER said Arreola is better. Stiverne has beat him twice now, so has proven that he’s better. I simply said that Stiverne was getting outboxed, so therefore wasn’t impressed with his performance.

SREDMOND: Wrong! Being “up the cards” means that Stiverne was being dominated and clearly losing before he landed a BIG temple shot. He’s not going to be able to duplicate that shot very often and will have to rely on his boxing skills if he’s going to beat the best out there.

Stiverne was lucky if he won 1 round out of the first 5. Any judge who had him up on the cards, needs to be investigated and suspended from boxing. Any fan who had Stiverne up on the cards, simply needs glasses or doesn’t know how to score a fight. What else is new? ESB is full of fan-boyz and casual fans with limited understanding of the science.

In other words… dudes who don’t know how to properly score a fight. H3ll…PEEJ was claiming that Bradley beat Pac for several weeks after their first fight and was even throwing down his bogus score. There are plenty of other guys on here who actually had FMJ beating MM 9-3 and 8-4. I rest my case.

The biggest problem with last nights fight is that a Don King fighter won it. That means it will be kept hostage and anyone that wants to fight BS will have to give Don King his sole first. That is going to what stops any unification fight. Let’s hope BS gets stopped by Wilder (doubt it) so we can get a unification bout.

Octavious janar chatman I agree with you, just to add something , areola is a big puncher but he was lighter because he it’s being criticized for being to ” fat” and I always said here that areola no matter how much he trains he won’t look muscular only can get lighter and by being lighter you get faster BUT your ko resistance is weaker and punch gets weaker , boxing 101

Mo-Box

Rarely seen anybody taken out with such angled temple shot as this one. In some ways very similar to Vitaly-Solis fight. Most of those rare “phantom” punches (that actually have some effect) are landed directly to the temple, but this one came with the angle to the corner of the temple. It really buckled Arreolas legs, without control for few seconds. After that Arreola was a walking KO and Stiverne finished him.

Posted May 11, 2014 11:13 am

Eric_Suede

Correction. Arreola was only up on 2 cards , it doesn’t matter anyway. The fight wasn’t even halfway done. I get it. Chris is a cool guy who i’d love to hand out with and have a beer. But Stiverne is better. Face it!! You guys are acting as if chris was up on all cards dominating the fight but then in round 12 Stiverne landed a hail mary “lucky” shot. That was not the case. Chris was up on 2 cards because he was a bit busier. But every time (other than the end of round 3) Chris cornered and unloaded on Stiverne , Chris was eating some beautiful Counter punches.

Posted May 11, 2014 11:12 am

@Bear…I agree with you that Chris was winning that fight; where we will agree to disagree is our impression of the fight. I was impressed with Stiverne because Arreola is a puncher as well; and Stiverne took his best shots and remained composed….I’m not saying he will beat Wladimar; but I was impressed with him….As far as Wilder is concern; I haven’t seen him beat anyone; at least Stiverne fought a REAL TOP TEN contender in Arreola and earned his shot; I can’t say the same for Wilder.

stieverne was getting dominantly outboxed. he simply overpowered arreola and landed a shot that hurt. it happens its heavyweight. arreolla dominantly outboxing stieverne tells us a lot because there are much better boxers at heavy than arreola where stivernes “punchers chance” of winning diminishes to almost nothing.

stieverne beat arreolla so did adamek. good win good stoppage good name on his resume. am i impressed with stiverne? no not at all depending on how well don king can protect and preserve him i dont see him lasting long. i will take wilder if they fight

Arreola 239: minus 25lbs flubber (which is more than likely) you have a big cruiserweight this times.
I felt, chris’ muscular structure was too weak. Stiverne was much stronger. Chris neck also seemed slim to me. How can you have a slim neck in HW-boxing? Even the Klitscho Brothers train their neck to trunk-dimensions for a reason. Slimming down is ok but you need to have also the power. A big mistake by the training crew I think.

Posted May 11, 2014 9:33 am

Love-the-Sport

Squared Circle … You are an idiot.

Stiverne agreed to fight Arreola — after he already embarassed Arreola.

Stiverne agreed to fight Arreola in Arreola’s home state.

Stiverne agreed to fight Arreola in a ring only 17×17.

The ring size allowed Arreola and his fat clumsy body to corner Stiverne and throw good punches.

Give Stiverne a normal size ring (20×20) or a big ring (22×22) and Arreola and his fat clumsy body would never land a punch — AS WE HAVE ALREADY SEEN PROVEN.

They were fighting in a phone booth. Arreola was given every possible advantage and he still got caught early and stumbled, he still got hit with counters even when he was cornering Stiverne in a tiny ring, and he still got embarrased by a basic counter right hand over the low left.

Face facts … Stiverne is better than Arreola. What else do you need. Does Stiverne have to fight with one hand against Arreola?

You are an idiot.

Congrats to Stivern. He reminds me of Sam Peter, but with better boxing skills and perhaps a bigger punch. He needs to up his work rate if he hopes to beat the sharks circling around his WBC title. Wilder, Jennings, Perez, e.t.c. The heavy weight div has come alive again. Lets hope Wlad is kept out of the WBC, or else he’ll win it and stink the place out.

Arreola never showed any true dedication and commitment during his entire career. A true fighter does things the right way from the amateurs and the professional ranks. Boxing is not a sport wear you can decide whenever you want to do things the right way. All the other dedicated boxers are going to be way ahead of you by the time you decide to do things right. Arreola is a decent fighter, but his chin has been chipped away fight by fight, and he never had any defense. Tonight should close his career for good, but he won’t quit. he’s a tough guy that will be a punching bag for the top heavyweights.

Lion King, Pulev has been rocked a few times in his fight with Ustinov and even had a flash knock down against Joey Abel, Stivene has quicker hands and punches much harder, so I think Stivene could actually stop Pulev if they ever fought each other.

Posted May 10, 2014 10:40 pm

I greee Wilder vs B-ware is a toss-up due to the fact that both can crack. I think B-ware has the advantage since he’s faced way better competition than Wilder plus Wilder suspect chin, I’ll take B-ware by stoppage, if he can just peel off a few more pounds and be a bit lighter on his feet.

Deontay Wilder is even darker than stiverne. So he has more of that mandingo, Shaka Zulu power man! The man sweats petroleum! Wilder to beat all those who have lighter skin than him.

I said it is early to analyze Wilder but… I actually do not like or trust Wilder’s chin. I think it could be the difference in this fight. Tall skinny fighters historically have weak chins. Bermane takes a good punch, his weakness predominantly is that he not very busy, he is econonmical and he always the opponent to set the pace of the fight and likes to play off of what the opponent does. But he is a wide body with a solid head. He can take a shot. He has power and the savvy to deliver it, I think he would KO Wilder based on what i saw tonight.

Posted May 10, 2014 10:31 pm

The Prince

Wilder and Stiverne is a good match up. I give Wilder the edge, because of his reach and the power behind it. However, if Stiverne were able to get inside, it would be lights out for Wilder. Stiverne knows how to throw power shots inside. It really would be a 50/50 match up that I hope to see next.

Posted May 10, 2014 10:26 pm

As for Stiverne vs Wlad. I would make wlad a favorite, but of course Stiverne has the power to hurt and KO him. The difference though is that Wlad is NOT gonna fight this guy at close range. Chris’s style fell right into Stiverne’s hands. He came right to him. Stiverne’s punches are powerful but fairly short. He also does not have a fast pressure type pace. Bermane will have to change up his game and learn to create angles to be able to score that big punch on Wlad. As far as How he matches up with Wilder, Here is the story folks. Wilder cannot even be assessed yet. I have no idea how good he is because he has not fought anyone. Bermane Stiverne is a known quantity now. Wilder has about the same caliber of wins as Seth Mitchell. I would enjoy watching the fight. But i will analyze Wilder when he gives me something worth analyzing.

Good fight. As fight time drew closer i did feel Stiverne would win. He now has developed an identify to the public as a fighter. He is a smart technician, with very good (before this fight underrated) power. He has a fast jab. But he does not like to use his legs and he very economical and prefers to set traps rather than walk a guy down. He deserved the win, i enjoyed his heartfelt reaction after the win and his class in burying the beef with Arreola.

Posted May 10, 2014 10:20 pm

JonnE.JaGozza

Very early in the fight Arreola was hit and wobbled, the more he fights, the easier its gonna be to KO him, The brain can take just so much then it’s damaged, Arreola seems like a GREAT guy but for GOD sake I don’t think anyone wants to see him turn out like Riddick Bowe who I met last year and couldn’t understand a damned thing he said to me, the same with Meldrick Taylor… Can’t Arreola do anything else
except fight ???? He’s a fatality just waiting to happen if he continues in this game.. SAD and PATHETIC… Boxingdictionary.com ..”The Language of the Ring “

He has weight issues. When a person is overweight and they lose it, they also lose a lot of energy with that weight and have stamina problems. That’s what happened to Ricky Hatton, eventually. He would pig out and get fat, then drop a the weight before a fight. Losing weight fast makes a person weak.
