Disagreed… Dehydrated 4″ + 10 pound advantages only mean the smaller guy is facing a weakened bigger fighter. Reflexes, strength, speed, durability, and agility are all adversely affected by dehydration. Catch weights for money, provide nothing more than illusions for the smaller fighters.

Posted August 9, 2012 11:56 pm

Arum needs to retire. Why in the world would Pacquiao fight Cotto again. It’s clear Cotto is fighting for the money. Pacquiao beat Cotto to a bloody pulp last time. The only new strategy for Cotto, would be to learn how to run faster.

Posted August 9, 2012 12:14 pm

Hecdog, first of all Money fought Cotto at his comfort zone of 154 pound; this is something Pacman will never, ever do in his lifetime… Pacman beat a drained (handicap) Cotto at a catch weight of 144 pounds. Pacman also fought a handicap De LaHoy and Mosley. Mayweather beat his opponent at their comfort zone, no handicap, and this is why he’s proven that he’s the best boxer that ever has been in the world.

Posted August 9, 2012 10:02 am

Cotto had to drained himself to 144 pounds to fight Manny and for that reason he one the fight. Manny fought a handicap… Cotto wants the fight but at 150 pounds.

Posted August 9, 2012 9:56 am

Totally disagreed. Money fought DeLahoya, Cotto and Mosley at their comfort weight class. Pac Man fought the same three fighters drained at a catch weight. Look it up and you’ll see that your little assasin is taking out handicap boxer.

That is 100% true.

Be a good fight for cotto, why not give him another shot whilst his confidence is high….. As for Mayfiddy, he don’t want the pacman fight yet either, May aint stupid & knows he can make another 100m fighting two or three bums then take on pacman. In essence, if May wanted the Pacman fight to happen it would have happened by now so it’s both camps that don’t want it yet, he knows it will be his risk fight – the first fight where May will have to take it too. Anyway it needs to happen in 2013 or who cares.

Posted August 8, 2012 5:54 pm

The only fight Pac should be going for is Bradley. He fought JMM about 15 times now, Cotto he already destroyed. Pac is got to be retarded or something. Bradley then May , if not those two then just retire. Nobody wants to see these recycled fights. JMM in Mexico  , did he fight Pac in the Phillipines.

Too true. Always his demands, does it all the time. Knows how to ‘drain’ fighters to win. Floyd don’t need no catchweight lol. Anyway, Arum’s not stupid, he’ll let Floyd destroy Manny next year, just as soon as he’s milked Pacqiuao dry with the likes of Bradley, Cotto etc.

The Real Deal

There’s nothing wrong with catch weight, folks. ALL Warriors, including the Great Manny Pacquioa, are willing to fight those BIG guys if they can weigh the same the night before the showdown. Pacquioa is small, but he is willing to fight anybody that weighs equally as he does. Pacquioa is only 5’6″, but He could torture and brutally beat those big guys 5’11” like Oscar De Hoya and Margarito up and out. He is the true little assassin. Bring on the Klitschko’s brothers to Pacquioa’s weight if you want a real fight. Cotto? History will just repeat itself. Mayweather? Well, we all know that Mayweather is scared and doesn’t want to fight Pacquioa. What’s next for Pacquiao? He should avenge and take his stolen title back from Bradley.

Posted August 8, 2012 1:13 am

This fight will not take place because: (A) Arum would probably try to get Cotto to re-sign with Top Rank in order to score the rematch. (B) Cotto and his team won’t agree to any sort of catch weight. And (C) In light of the PED allegations against Pacquiao, Cotto would surely want random drug testing. Just one of these issues is enough to prevent this rematch from happening. Besides, with Manny nearing the end of his career, Arum wants all Top Rank fight so he can cash Pacman out. Pacquiao will fight Marquez or Bradley next.

unsurprising!! cotto brings the 3rd most money so pac and floyd will happily keep beating him up till the cows come home while cotto will happily take the beating for the money!! Waste of time fights obvious outcome…

boxing all about money going down the drain!! pac lost last 2 fights but wont fix neither

He hit Manny and he didn’t budge. Manny hit him back and Cotto hit the deck then folded like a tent. No thanks on a rematch. :???:

No catchweight bullspit, Miguel! Knock Manny’s ass out! If you can hit Floyd, you can hit Manny!

Posted August 7, 2012 4:26 pm

Regardless. The bottom line is you’re blasting Cotto for fighting a “welterweight” in Floyd but forgot that a dried out middleweight in Canelo is fighting a blown up Jr. Welter. Not even close to “good” if you ask me. Cotto is established, Canelo is not, Cotto can call the shots, Canelo cannot.

Posted August 7, 2012 1:53 pm

Wont buy another fight from Pac or PBF until its v each other. Both are out of interesting possibilities for the most part. Hopefully they both have one more fight then v each other which will ultimately be their retirement pensions. Too bad its been dragged on this long, neither in absolute prime anymore. Still a hell of a fight though…

there isn’t a single reason why Floyd would not want the Pacquiao* bout. by this time, who can still deny that Mayweather would cruelly and decisively manhandle and dismantle Pacquiao* with merciless impunity? he would only improve on Marquez’s performance with his bigger size, strength, speed, and P4P versatility. in fact, it’s the primary reason that Team Punkuiao* is once again trying to bait a compromised Cotto into a rematch that Pacquiao* will certainly win. No Dice. if Punkuiao* can’t finally bring himself to challenge and face legitimate and prime opponents on a level playing field, he should do fight-fans and the sport a favor and RETIRE. IMO, he’s been a cynical fraud for at least the past three years and isn’t even trying to hide it by re-challenging a vulnerable Cotto who hasn’t defeated a prime opponent himself since he was a welter.

Posted August 7, 2012 1:32 pm

Nope…not happening!!,no more catchweights!!;either PEDman makes the regulatory weight or take a hike…everyone is well aware of this trick already;why not rematch Bradley instead?

Posted August 7, 2012 1:05 pm

This is really pathetic,….is there is no one else out there…..

Posted August 7, 2012 12:24 pm

I still feel Cotto entered the ring at a big disvanatage in his fight against Pac. First, the catch-weight was a big mistake. Even today, I find it difficult to believe Cotto felt into that trap. He was the champion; if Pac wanted the belt the fight should had taken place at 147.

Secondly, and perhaps the biggest disadvantage, was the trainer chosen by Cotto. Why chose a trainer with no experience…for any fight, but especially for a championship fight. That “so called” trainer didn’t know anything about boxing, (other than being a fan and a friend of Cotto) let alone training a fighter for a championship bout.

Roach, being an experience trainer, took advantage of those mistakes…of course I’d have done the same. However, “fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me”. If Cotto falls into that trap again, he deserves to have his ass wiped.

Posted August 7, 2012 12:13 pm

That’s absolutely right… the 1st one was VERY conclusive. No need for a repeat, cause I’m not buying. And I doubt the undercard will be any better… so bring on Tiny Tim one more time. That one is unfinished business right there. I don’t like this new Manny….

Posted August 7, 2012 11:48 am

Hmm I wonder if Cotto can still make 147? because Roach and co will want Cotto nowhere near 154. if Pacquiao had a set of balls then it will be 154, we will see.

Posted August 7, 2012 10:53 am

The true fight fans won’t buy it but the ignorant general public will think they’re cool if they do.

as a matter of fact i would like to have seen a Paquiao vs. Cotto fight before Cotto was destroyed by Margarito.i think Manny would have still won but it would have been a totally different fight IMO.

Posted August 7, 2012 9:25 am

Paquiao would show more balls by fighting Marquez a 4th time or giving Bradley a rematch. Cotto has been damaged goods since his first fight with Margarito, and besides that Paquiao destroyed Cotto the first time around.

Why a rematch, didn’t Pedquiao Demolished an already CRIPPLE Cotto in 11 rounds and WHY did Floyd fought a CRIPPLE Cotto if he doesn’t get along with Arum and instead fought Cotto when he was a Tough undefeated welterweight Arum was the EXCUSE then why not now too.

Posted August 7, 2012 1:21 am

You are a Pacquiao fanboy and never watched boxing before Pac came along. That being said, Pacquiao lost to Marquez, while Mayweather had a competitive fight with Cotto. And to be fair, Mayweather didn’t have to weight drain Cotto.

I don’t like this fight for Cotto — although the way this article is written — a safe bet would be that it’s all speculation. It would also seem that Cotto will do better against Pacquiao because he has improved a lot on his defense while training with Steward and now with Diaz. The last time, Cotto won three rounds and fought on until the 11th round. This time, my bet would be that it would go the 12 rounds with a decision in favor of Pacquiao. No one can question Cotto’s warrior spirit, so he will fight until the end. No matter what, I would save the PPV money and watch the replay on HBO.

Arum flying out to Pacquiao in the Philippines speaks volumes in itself!!!!!

Proper desperate measures by the Incarnate himself and sounds like he’s losing his grip on the Gravy!

don’t see the connection(?). Canelo hasn’t reached his prime and Cotto is presumably an active “legend”. besides, Cotto declining Canelo’s invitation followed by Williams, Kirkland, and Ortiz falling through is what resulted in Lopez NOT careful “picking and choosing” of safe opponents. Btw, there is no stage of a fighter’s career where he is entitled to $queezing fight-fan’s for their hard-earned money to watch him v. carefully-selected competition. if Cotto can no longer compete, then he should retire or be tossed to the young lions.

Posted August 6, 2012 11:53 pm

This guy Arum is so predictable. Every time Mayweather hits the press, this maggot starts with this type of crap. I hope Cotto’s gives him the middle finger. Cotto can do fine without Arum.

Posted August 6, 2012 9:53 pm

More catch weight bull@h!t. If Cotto agrees to come down in weight, he might as well go ahead and sign another contract to be a slave on Master Arum’s Plantation once again. Some guys NEVER learn.

Posted August 6, 2012 9:51 pm

Gotta feel a bit sorry for the Pacquiao fanboys!

They’ll buy anything Arum sells them!

Posted August 6, 2012 9:42 pm

How does Cotto deserve the fight against pacquiao more than Marquez? Juan Manuel has been robbed time and time again. he should have the pacquiao fight and have it in Mexico!

Posted August 6, 2012 9:14 pm

Fight Aficionado

I don’t give a GD about any Pac or Floyd fights unless they fight each other. We bought the last Pac card only because we liked the undercard. Won’t be doing that again. Someone needs to kidnap Floyd and Pac and release them only when they enter the ring to fight each other.

Posted August 6, 2012 9:03 pm

cotto takes this fight if the catch weight is 152lbs. he wont fall for that trick again of dehydrating himself and draining his strength. if the weight cant be decided i see cotto doing his fight in msg sometime in december. i feel pacquiao should fight bradley again but who wants to pay for that. pacquiao should and needs to fight marquez and win convincingly. thats the fight that makes the most sense.

Posted August 6, 2012 8:52 pm

good fight if it’s at or above 150

Posted August 6, 2012 8:52 pm

PPV? For this re-run? Not getting my $$$.

Posted August 6, 2012 8:50 pm

I’d rather see Cotto vs Canelo if Cotto fights again at 154. If he moves to 160, the obvious choice is the winner of Martinez-Chavez… though a Cotto-Golovkin fight would be damn awesome (though it would of course never happen… it makes absolutely no business sense, and as entertaining as it’d be whilst it lasted, I couldn’t see Cotto lasting the distance).

Posted August 6, 2012 8:47 pm

Cotto is no match for
Pac at 160 so whats the big deal????

Posted August 6, 2012 8:38 pm

who the hell wants to see this fight?

Posted August 6, 2012 8:36 pm

Please, no redos! I like Cotto, but we’ve seen this fight already. Let’s make it intriguing. Try out some new blood. How ’bout Kell Brook, Josesito Lopez or at 140 lbs Danny Garcia or Lucus Matthysee? If you want a deserving redo — fight Bradley again — he has Pac’s belt.

Posted August 6, 2012 8:36 pm

pacioui and Arum both suk. Cotto should not fight at a weight lower than 154, Pac don’t like that, fack em..

Why face torta lips martinez at 150 when he can make 147 easy, remember pinchulo have said that he’s a smaaaaaaaaaaaaall middleweight. But i guess it wont be necessary cos Chavez jr will put him on wheelchair as vegetable man.

Americans are killing boxing…. it’s the truth. If they can’t have it, the utter, utter kents are making sure no one else will. Oscar, Arum, King and the long, long line of scum that they come from are slowly calcifying this once great sport. Europe is the only hope.

If Pacquiao takes the Fight he’s a devout COWARD because he SAID that he’d only face Martinez at 147. Martinez SAID he would face Pacquiao at 150

Agreed! Cotto should shoot for title contention at 160 or fight for a title at 154….forget fighting a catchweight bout. Enough of that BS!

Posted August 6, 2012 7:26 pm

I somewhat agree! But they (Cotto & Pacquiao) see dollar signs….I understand that boxing is a business, and when you’ve reached their level it’s hard not to “pick and choose” your opponent carefully. But if you’re going to shoot for big bucks, at least fight someone worthy or attempt to please the fans.

Posted August 6, 2012 7:24 pm

first of all, what’s the catchweight? also, if Cotto is a true 154lbr, why is it that he consistently avoids the best 154lb competition in favor of welter retreads or PPV headliners including a catchweight? Btw, E-Nuff of scapegoating Arum. Cotto and Punkuiao* are presumably grown men in charge of their own careers. at least that’s what they both insist is the case. consequently, they are At-Least as responsible as Arum for these artificial “showdowns” and “rematches” happening. Boycott is the only response of self-respecting fight-fans. no more primetime dollars for subprime and predictable matchups.

Posted August 6, 2012 6:54 pm

I agree; there’s no reason why Cotto needs to agree with those demands. Pac should man-up and agree to fight Cotto at 154 or look someplace else. That’s the issue though, Pac doesn’t want anything to do with Marquez and a Bradley rematch is too risky. At the same time, he’s running out of catch-weight “willing” opponents.

Posted August 6, 2012 5:18 pm

at 150lbs?? NO! Cotto shouldn’t do it…..eff that. He should go to 160 and try for a title there. There’s nothing but a paycheck fighting Pacman at 150.
