I’m willing to bet Guerrero wouldn’t go 12 rounds with Maidana. Guerrero has no pop at 35 let alone 47. He got hurt and missed out on a big fight and that’s a sad situation but beating a nobody at 147 doesn’t give you the right to call out anybody. I can only go with what my eyes see and he’s not top 5 welterweight.Posted October 12, 2012 6:33 pm
Since when should a fighter be penalized for being an avoided fighter throughout his career?
Rock, it’s amazing how many people actually hold it against Guerrero that he hasn’t fought the elite of any division, when the elite of 126, 130, and 135 have avoided him like the plague.
They’ve always considered Robert to be “too much risk for the reward” and have chosen not to fight him.
Give him a chance to prove his mettle now that the 140 and 147 pound fighters are willing to tangle with the ghost.
He’s a tough style match-up for anyone because of his southpaw stance and his ability to fight proficiently at various ranges. He’s a chameleon in the ring.
Although he’s never been the lineal champion of any division, he’s still captured four world championships in four different divisions. Most fighters in boxing never get the opportunity to take home one.
Judge slowly, guys. Time will tell us if Robert Guerrero deserves to be considered an elite level fighter.Posted October 12, 2012 4:46 pm
Everyone needs a breakout fight. Ppl used to say the same bout floydPosted October 12, 2012 3:04 pm
Joseph Herron- It’s not that I hate Guerrero, but it does annoy, as it obviously does a lot of people here as well, that Guerrero and his people are trying to sell him like a 5 division champ when he has never been the man in any division, let alone 5! He might be good, but how would we know? He has never fought anyone except Salido* and a very old Casamayor. Other than that I dare you to find a name you know in that list.Posted October 12, 2012 2:45 pm
Jack Herron Guerrero hasn’t fought anybody yet how can he be an elite fighter away from being elite?Posted October 12, 2012 11:54 am
Guerrero rubs me the wrong way, he walks around like he’s entitled to big money fights despite doing jack sh… above Featherweight.Posted October 12, 2012 11:11 am
He deserves no place at the top row. The only cause for his being there was being used. as a mere tool in a plan to send Selçuk into oblivion after a shameful prearranged win, in which authorities, media, judges and, last but not least, Selçuk himself partook. It is a shame!Posted October 12, 2012 2:44 am
And for all you people that say “he’s avoided by all the top people!” The reason is because no one cares about this guy! Nobody wants to pay to see him! He brings nothing to the table except his story that is stuck on repeat! He couldn’t even stop 100 yr old cassamayor! And u say people are afraid if him? OkkkayPosted October 12, 2012 2:05 am
The Mad Scientist
If Guerrero thinks he’s as good as he makes himself out to be his time will come..for now the Ghost just needs to keep fighting (hopefully against the best) and winning..Posted October 12, 2012 1:11 am
I don’t really think the Ghost is that avoided as a fighter. And as far is Time Bradley is concerned I have lost all respect for that manPosted October 12, 2012 12:04 am
Wow, T-Bag…with those hateful comments, you sound more like a D-Bag!!
No, Guerrero has never been a lineal Champ of any weight division. But, that’s not entirely his fault.
Why do you hold it against “The Ghost” for being an avoided fighter?
The only reason why Guerrero has never fought someone from the A-list is because no one from that list has ever had the balls to step in the ring with him.
Even the great JMM elected not to fight Guerrero at 135. Even though the reason was to fight Pacquiao, he still elected not to face him.
Bradley is the most recent A-list fighter to turn down a lucrative fight with Robert.
Guerrero is a chameleon in the ring and is a stylistic nightmare for anyone at 135 or 140.
We’ll see how he fairs at Welterweight. But until someone steps up and puts him in his place, you really should show some respect, brother!!Posted October 11, 2012 8:22 pm
The ghosts resume is Pathetic!!! The fact he calls himself a 4 weight champ when he hasn’t beaten one champ, and hasn’t even beaten an A level fighter in over 11 years as a pro is a JOKE!!! This guy is so overated cause of his sad story. I’m glad he can provide for his fam after what they went through but he deserves nothing as a fighter, what kinda champ has been a pro for 11 years and still not have one A level fighter on the resume?? This guys career is the difinition of careful matchmaking and now he wants to cash out in a fight he has no chance of winning. He looked awful at WW with no power, not much speed and sloppy technique vs a glorified club brawler and he somehow got a title for barely squeeking by that Euro clown.Posted October 11, 2012 8:12 pm
if canelo fights Guererro he’s a joke. that’s pathetic, Guererro’s even less of a JMW threat than Josesito was. Canelo should fight a legit JMW like ROsado, Lara, Kirkland, anyone from hsi own division not a weak WW who couldn’t crack an egg at LW.Posted October 11, 2012 8:05 pm
it always comes back to the FACT that a good big man will always beat a good small man and thats what the ghost represents ..Posted October 11, 2012 7:52 pm
Well stated Team_Money!!
Canelo is a much more favorable style match-up than Guerrero for Money May.Posted October 11, 2012 6:26 pm
Guerrero is not over rated. He has one of the best resumes in boxing. Im a huge mayweather fan but I aint gonna lie, i’d rather may face canelo then ghostPosted October 11, 2012 6:13 pm
Canelo and guerrero are both trying to get mayweather. and they’re both the top choices. Only eay to settle is fight each otherPosted October 11, 2012 6:10 pm
Srminimo, how many four division champions who are southpaws and can box proficiently from the outside has Canelo faced up to this point?
Guerrero is not overrated. If anything, judging by some of the comments on this article, including yours, you could say that he’s very underrated and underappreciated.Posted October 11, 2012 6:09 pm
Joseph Herron- Guerrero is EXACTLY the kind of match-up Canelo’s people have been choosing: undersized and overrated.
I would not be surprised if Mayweather fights him either…Posted October 11, 2012 6:02 pm
Team_Money, there’s no way Canelo and Company would take on slick southpaw like Guerrero at this time.
I’m sure they will agree to fight Guerrero if he defeats either Berto, Malignaggi, or Alexander, but right now Canelo is looking for a bigger money fight if he has to take the challenge that Guerrero would present.
Look for Canelo to face a good but not great fighter like Gabriel Rosado before he has to defend his title against the winner of Vanes and Erislandy.Posted October 11, 2012 5:27 pm
Canelos a monster but guerrero is the boogieman! Money mayweather beats either thoughPosted October 11, 2012 4:41 pm
Guerrero vs canelo I heard. And winner gets mayweatherPosted October 11, 2012 4:36 pm
Guerrero has received quite a bit of publicity because of his wife’s difficult health situation. He has done all the right things for his family and he should me commended on that. As a boxer, he hasn’t really beaten anyone that stands out. He’s a good all around boxer, with decent hand speed and not much power, especially at the welterweight weight class. He’s been calling out everyone and anyone that would listen, and he probably deserves a big fight to help him out with his finances. Those medical bills and young kids can add up quickly. I don’t think he can beat any of the top fighters in the division he’s in, but I think he can give anyone a tough fight. He’s a lanky, long armed southpaw that has somewhat of an awkward style. Calling out fighters is something out of Guerrero’s character, and is painting a negative image of him in a small way. He needs to beat those top contenders and earn his title shot. The Interim belt he has means nothing. Let’s give him a break, and see if he’s good enough to beat one of the champions. Don’t count him out, he’s been through some things that would be very difficult for any of us to handle. Hope his wife and family are well.Posted October 11, 2012 3:59 pm
Really who cares, he is a boring fighter, and out of weight division, he should be fighting at 140 lbs or under.Posted October 11, 2012 2:12 pm
Rock, he’s a four division world champion.
I can think of many fighters under the Golden Boy banner who receive more critical acclaim who don’t possess the kind of accreditations that Robert currently can boast.
Add that to the fact…and it is a fact, that Guerrero has been a very avoided fighter because of his ability to fight on the outside and inside effectively.
He’s also a southpaw in addition to being all of his other physical attributes.
He is one fight against a top rated welterweight away from being considered an elite level fighter.
Like him or not, you have to respect his accomplishments in the ring.Posted October 11, 2012 1:41 pm
Family counts as blockbuster?Posted October 11, 2012 1:34 pm
Guerrero is a nobody until he beats somebody worth mentioning. He’s the most overhyped fighter on the golden boy roster. He’s not a bum but he’s not elite either. I here Berto is looking for an opponent somebody tell his manager to make that fight happenPosted October 11, 2012 1:27 pm
