Chavez knew that his face was too pretty. Everyone used to think he’s an Emile Griffith type — a clothes designer looking for a boyfriend.

So he grows that scraggly beard, stays up all night, and generally tries to look as ugly as his dad. Seems to work.

Chavez jr the WBA champ fighting the middleweight Golovkin? Well written. Chavez has no strap & Golovkin does…..homework?

Chavez is fine… He looked good pounding Vera in his last fight and has only one loss in some 50 fights—and in that loss he almost won it in the last round.

But he’s going to get knocked out… despite the fact that this is 8 pounds heavier than GGG has ever fought.

Well we will find out soon how good is ggg or Chavez when they fight …. I just hope ggg gets credit if he beats Chavez which I am sure he will …

Soda , I mentioned Rosario because what he did to the other midelweight champ kid chocolate and how easy ggg handled him …. Ggg has a highest ko ratio for a reason , he took the polish dude( can’t remember the name ) who can bang and had never been down before he faced ggg who put him down. 5 times … Ggg can box can take a punch and is good in mixing out his punches to body and head plus he punches hard … That’s a p4p attributes and until someone beats him you can’t claim he isn’t , sorry !

Adrian, one more thing you need to know…the difference in this fight between ggg and chavez maybe martinez himself.the expereince chavez gained fighting martinez maybe more than what ggg has learend and seen not to mention the weight desperity the day of fight night.

Adrian, rosario shouldve never been in this conversation…why did he fight ggg to begin with?the $$$.hes not a middlewieght and you being a supposed boxing fan should know this.he went up in wieght because the money was to much to refuse but make no mistake, hes no middleweight and thats why he went back down.if you are gonna say ggg is the man or a pound for pound great then bring his resume before making any claim.

Soda pop- who ggg beat. ? Lol who did Chavez beat? Well he lost to Martinez when he faced a real contender , ggg beat macklin easily who droped Martinez , he stoped Rosario with a cold who actually was better then quellin but most importantly those who know boxing know reAl well who is a real deal and ggg is the one

Big Ham

interesting fight. There is good and bad to it. For GGG if he wins there will be pressure to stay at 168 and abandon 160. I do not think GGG struggles to make 160 and he is a great fighter and i beleive fighters should be allowed to create their legacey at their natural weight class without having to whore themselves to the media networks to create “event” fights as a b-side to a media darling in a higher weightclass. He is as a clear a better p4p fighter than JCC as Floyd Mayweather was to Canelo. However as it was in the Canelo vs Money fight. There is a danger when you face a much larger fighter who is also a puncher. Floyd is a defensive expert, GGG is not. His best identify is that of a pressure fighter. He will have to change his stripes a bit for the JCC fight. He can win every round but if he gets caught by a big left hook from a guy 18lbs heavier than him. He could go to sleep. So nonetheless GGG has balls and he wants to be a big name in the sport, that’s why he’s taking the fight.

Check out them sparing, not the short utube that had GGG winning. The rest was Chavez taking GGG to school. Chavez is was faster than GGG, he was throwing 3 punches in and getting out untouched many times. True it’s soaring but the speed Diffrence is to much.

Posted March 30, 2014 12:08 am

Thurmal Underwear

Chavez isn’t active enough to beat GGG. He typically uses his size to his advantage and since he won’t have that-what will prevail over GGG; his boxing skills? Pfff yeah right. GGG all day.

Posted March 30, 2014 12:04 am

Mike Tyson

The problem with fighter that throw full body weight punches a lot. Is that you are also open to get knock yourself, as you are extended and rock tight and you are also moving into the punch.
We seen ton of fighter get ko while they are throwing. And that a not standing up at the bell ko.
Chavez has a good ko % record also remember that. Also drop Martinez 1 punch.

Posted March 30, 2014 12:01 am

Mike Tyson

I mean I pick Chavez over GGG, GGG going to find he also need defense also, as Chavez hold his ground will mix it up with him. Beside throwing more Chavez can also put GGG on his butt.

GGG has shown when the fighter punch back he off his game plan. He hate to get hit. Can he take a flush punch Shot.
What kind fight heart he has? Is the unknowed fighters he fought where they above average fighter. Chevez is the better boxer. And they will not be a knock down on Chavez. But GGG ???
Another good fight…..

I thought Martinez already smoked this guy? Of course, that is why GGG wants the fight, because Chavez Jr has been ruined by a real champion. When is GGG going to step up and clean out the Middle division just like he said he would? At least that was his excuse not to accept challenges by Froch and Ward. Now it seems to be alright to go to 168lbs after more ducking and facing Martinez leftovers. Maybe in 6 months the Lara challenge will be forgotten and he can go back to beating on blown up Welters and Jnr Middles, as long as it isn’t Lara. Hype train is slowing down, better shovel more crap for the suckers to bring it up to full steam. Chooooooo!!! Chooooooo!!!

Junior bullies and stops Golovkin. After fight, Golovkin will say Jr. was too big, that he’s returning to MW where he belongs.

Posted March 29, 2014 8:13 pm

Golovkin will have his first real test against Chavez. I would expect him to win but at least he’ll have to take something back for a change as Golovkin will be easier to hit than Martinez. Chavez made weight for Vera so the incentive of the Golovkin fight will get him to weight again. As for comments on Chavez drug use he has failed tests for maruana and diuretics which are hardly performance enhancing.

Fighter’s should not brag that they will fight anyone..unless they really mean it . Golovkin was getting a lot of ink , with the word that he would fight any one between 154 lbs to 168 lbs ..then the truth came out , that he and his trainer ( Mr. hot air Sanchez ) were fakes . Just like Mike Tyson did ,,he claim that he would fight any one ( He say it on HBO ) but he always avoided Evander Holyfield .

Posted March 29, 2014 7:15 pm

Chili Grande

What’s the deal with this guy ” Golovkin ” first his idiot trainer Abel Sanchez is bragging that Golovkin would fight anyone between 154 lbs to up to 168 lbs . then a challenge is thrown in his way in the form of Andre Ward ..all of a sudden idiot Sanchez has the excuse that Golovkin wants to clean up the 160 lbs division . Then !! Erislandy Lara makes a challenge to them ,,again the Golovkin team says that they have no time for him ..Abel Sanchez and Golovkin are just full of hot air ..

Posted March 29, 2014 7:05 pm

No one can say that Golovkin has a great chin ,, he has never really face a good fighter with power . Don’t give me Curtis Stevens !! Stevens is a B level fighter and only show power against B to C level fighter’s . it would have been interesting if he would of fought Andy Lee ..Lee has very good power ,although limited in his skills ,Lee would have provided some answers on Golovkin’s chin .

doc…I agree JR. is a pretty tough guy with a solid chin, like I said in my last post. But styles make fights and JR. has a bad style for GGG,he gets hit to much and isnt fast or sharp enough to cause problems for GGG.The stlye Ward has would give GGG problems and could cause his downfall but JR. style is all wrong for a high tech. fighter like GGG who has plenty of power aswell.

Posted March 29, 2014 4:51 pm

Hecdog

GGG would wipe the ring with either Canelo or Martinez. GGG is a complete fighter that stays busy, hits hard and can box. He has a tremendous chin and has plenty of stamina. Some of you aren’t quite sold on GGG, but you’ll see sooner or later. He is always active and getting better every time out. I watched videos of Sergei Kovalev Canelo and Chavez both sparring with GGG, and I can tell you now. These guys don’t want any part of GGG. Don’t be surprised when the Chavez fight doesn’t happen. This will not be a surprise because Chavez answers to questions pertaining to a GGG fight weren’t very confident when he was asked in a few interviews. he will find a way to back out. GGG is a polished extensive amateur experienced boxer that has become a great professional. He loves to fight, and you will rarely ever see him take any time off. Due to his father’s passing, GGG is taking time off understandably, but when he returns, someone is going to take a beating. I don’t think it will be Chavez because he’ll find a way out as I mentioned, but someone is going to be destroyed by this beast.

dunno why GGG is messing about with other fighters outside his weight when there is a middleweight division that needs unifying
Posted March 29, 2014 4:17 pm

because there are only two names that can make GGG a big time name as well as richer than he is now, Martinez, and Canelo, and only Chavez jr is available now. GGG isn’t a young Guy so the time to make moves is now.

Posted March 29, 2014 4:38 pm

GGG can fight anyone from 154-168 the problem is complicated with fighters willing to fight him, aside the politics that these promoters and HBO and SHOWTIME are having from GGG being able to get the fights he wants!!

Win or lose triple G will never be the same at 160lbs ever again..war Chavez Jr….

Posted March 29, 2014 4:30 pm

I watched cruisers quit and leave sparring from GGG. Chavez doesn’t have the work rate and won’t have any answers. Golovkin cuts off the ring well and and has no problem with defense and taking a solid shot. Chavez doesn’t have high output and he’s not a fast puncher. Golovkin punches fast, hard and accurate. Chavez has a chin but his output will be nowhere near enough to keep Golovkin off of him. Even if he does try to throw alot, he will get winded and doesn’t compare in punch volume and accuracy. Golovkin does most certainly have more than.enough power to not only stop Chavez but Seperate him from consciousness as well. I say Golovkin stops him inside 9. If Chavez tries to get agressive, Jr will go to sleep even faster.

GGG is the better all around fighter than Chavez Jr. IF and that’s a BIG IF this fight happens, they need to make sure to test Chavez for everything. he can’t and won’t beat GGG. Plain and simple he’s nowhere near the same league as GGG. He will take a beating and get stopped in the later rounds. Sure he will give a tough showing, but he’s going to get hit and hit hard. Chavez takes too many punches and has no defense. GGG is a great fighter, and it will be a long time before he gets beat. Martinez gets destroyed by Golovkin as well as Quillin and Ward. GGG is an all time great, and he trains, acts and has the mentality of a great fighter. This kid is a legend in the making. Keep doubting him and watch him continue to beat them all.

Posted March 29, 2014 4:13 pm

Prof Konje

Chavez should have moved up to 175 a long time ago. Fighting at 160 but coming in at 180 has been his style and it’s unfair to his opponents who make weight. The $1 million dollar penalty is a joke and won’t be enforced. Golovkin’s people should cancle the fight at weigh-in if Chavez doesn’t make weight. But if he does make weight, what will his weight be on fight night? Clearly he has a powerful punch and can take a punch, so why doesn’t he move up to 175 at least? It may be because he wants an unfair advantage over his opponents.

Posted March 29, 2014 4:13 pm

Livershot

Chavez has a granite chin, I give him that. He had enough power to knock down Martinez but for some reason couldn’t find Vera. I’ve only seen GGG fight a couple of times and he’s a wrecking machine with both hands. I’ve never seen GGG get hit. If Jr had some sort of defense I’d give him a chance, but he continues to take shot after shot and his face shows it after the fight. Daddy Chavez took shots but his face never showed it. GGG wins by stoppage after Jr’s eye’s are closed, cut or both.

Posted March 29, 2014 4:10 pm

doc

@ dwc – I tend to disagree with you. GGG is for sure all class, but to write-off Chavez is a big mistake. We have seen Chavez battle back through adversity, and nearly stop Martinez in the 12th round. In his last fight he corrected his mistakes (and seems to have trained hard) and looked really good, throwing leather for 12 straight rounds. In my opinion GGG has all of the tools, but as yet has fought mediocre competition at best. That siad, I am expecting a great fight.

Posted March 29, 2014 4:07 pm

Chavez jr. is in no way in the same class as GGG.Plus GGG hits hard and on the dime.Chavez Jr. has a pretty good chin, but I recall his fight with Duddy when Duddy landed a solid shot on JR. in the second round I belive and JR. was stunned pretty good but Duddy didnt follow through foolishly.GGG will not let JR off the hook when he hurts him.

Ppl think Junior has no chance based on how he did with Martinez. If Martinez would have stayed in, and banged with Chavez, I’m not sure he could have made it all the way. Triple G, ain’t gonna be running like Martinez did, he’s gonna stay there and trade with Junior. Either Junior hurts GGG or the other way around. Should be a good scrap if Junior actually trains and focuses on this fight.
