To Public Enemy ,,you say that Canelo is fighting a broken down fighter (Angulo ) and easy pick for him instead of fighting the best in his division like Lara . Well ! what do you think Cotto is doing ,he is fighting a broken down fighter that hasn’t fought in a while . why doesn’t he fight the best in his division like Triple GGG ..come on Public Enemy answer to this .

te tumbo- Cotto’s going for a 4th belt at 160 and Canelo wanted to fight Kirkland a year and a half ago when the man had a busted shoulder and then it fell through (as did Paul Williams, to be fair). Whatever you may think of Lara, he did beat Angulo and Trout and should be considered the top contender at 154. I like Angulo, the man comes to fight and has had more than his share of bad luck and injustice, but he’s coming off a pretty serious looking eye injury (I don’t buy for a minute that that much swelling was caused by just a scratched cornea) that basically forced him to quit the fight. I hope he’s ok and I’m glad the guy gets a chance, but it would be pretty surprising if that eye ever gets back to 100%.

Tumbo, Lopez might’ve caught PDL cold but that was no lucky KO. He demolished PDL so there was utterly no demand for a rematch nor would any of the networks buy one. Now, years later, it’s happening and it’s a relatively obscure match up on which network? No idea.

te tumbo

SRMINIMO, Canelo did have a choice and he challenge Cotto including a guaranteed $10 million payday in the offer (why is it you guys won’t even dare touch the question of “why?”). he also challenged both Cotto and Kirkland before having to sette on Mayweather at a catchweight due to their rejection of his challenges. Lara is as overrated as can be but i’ll wait for him to lose AGAIN before driving that point home.

TITOPA, IMO Lopez got lucky and diligently avoided confirming his superiority v. a dangerous opponent like Ponce, period. anyway, he can’t be more “shot” or ringworn than Ponce according to the facts I cited below. he’s older, has faced superior competition, and is coming off of a KO loss. on that basis, it’s an even matchup except for the fact that Ponce has always been better.

te tumbo- Canelo had no choice? All he has at 154 are choices! Lara – Molina – Andrade – Mandingo… What you meant to say is that Canelo doesn’t have a choice that GB feels is either small enough, or beat up enough to risk him with.

te tumbo – I’m not even a fan of Lopez, so I’m definitely NOT a “fanboy”, it’s just ridiculous to say Juanma was ducking De Leon. People laughed (as did I) at De Leon when he wanted a rematch with Boom Boom, I mean, really? Asking for rematch with someone you SMOKED is hilarious.

EZ E

TUMBO Q-VO!! Just got off work, but before I go get a good DAY’S rest I got to say that days ago I was talking from Juanma’s handler (Orlando) and we talked about this fight, before it was finalized. I told him that if it was about getting a good payday then it was okay. But.. if was about Juanma winning impressively in order to get Juamna in a title position well… they should find someone else and a lesser dangerous opponent was better, just to see where Juanma at right now. Juanma has ALWAYS been a game fighter. He don’t know how to fight any other way! His chin is fragile, his defense is worse that questionable, no waist & head movement, low on octane, puts on too much weight in between fights. He had great power at 122Lbs, and still carries some pop but he NEEDS more of it because his skills have eroded and it was his PUNCHING POWER that got him as far as he did & not his overall skills. His fighting HEART is the most he has going for himself at this stage, but it’s that SAME heart that has gotten him into trouble in the past as well.

Are his peeps looking to cash out or… are they hoping for a prayer? Now, knowing Juanma like I do, he believes in himself and ” cashing out” is NOT in his vocabulary. He HONESTLY believes that he has enough left to become champ again. He might be HONESTLY wrong.

As for Ponce de Leon, it’s no secret that he has limited boxing skills but he makes up for it with his punching power and heart. His punching power and pressure will be a factor for as long this fight goes, contrary to Juanma where his chances will diminish the longer the fight last. Can Juanma regain a tiny bit of the fairly decent boxing skills of his early career to make a difference?? Possibly but.. unlikely.

Although Ponce’s skills have diminished as well, he seems to have more in the tank than Juanma. But, nonetheless, it’s STILL an interesting fight. The name of Juanma is the centerpiece of this attraction, only due to his past notoriety, and not because of his recent accomplishments.

Because of my friendship with both Juanma and handler Orlando Pineiro, my HEART will be pulling for him. But…my head says… PONCE!! Paz carnal, peace to all!!

“Angulo is even more shot then both guys.. but” Canelo had no choice after once again being ducked by Jotto who left $10 million on the table and opted-out of Messyhoe island’s precious “rivalry”, i.e., what “rivalry”?

This fight has nothing to do with avenging or ducking, or redemption. That may be a storyline to market it. It’s a twilight of the career fight for a couple guys to make some money towards the end of their career. The difference imo is Ponce is still a solid top 10 guy, Where juanma is shot. He does’nt need a new trainer or defensive adjustments. That’s actually a disservice to his prime to insinuate that he is somehow on a bad stretch because he needs to make changes. He’s shot.

Btw PAPO, Lopez has no choice but to face Ponce. besides, first-round and even early-round KOs are notoriously deceptive. it actually fooled you into thinking that Lopez was an “elite” fighter. I obviously knew better . . . “Cannn-Tahhh y no Llores”.

Posted January 29, 2014 10:20 pm

“. . . DeLeon knows Juanma is a shot fighter…the reason why that after so many years he finally wants to supposedly avenge his lost”. Ponce is older and has been fighting longer than Lopez. along the way he’s faced the likes of Mares, Gonzalez, Broner, and Gamboa and is coming off a Pummeling at the fists of Mares. Lopez enjoys every advantage except for superior fighting skills . . . I’m gonna enjoy this.

Te Tumbo is calling Juanma names because he put his idol DeLeon to sleep in just one round. We all know his rational about Juanma avoiding DeLeon is just an excuse of a sore loser. On the other hand, DeLeon knows Juanma is a shot fighter…the reason why that after so many years he finally wants to supposedly avenge his lost. Someone once said, “Be careful what you ask for”. Just because DeLeon think this will be easy, it may backfire and he may find himself in a worst situation than during their first match.

“Destroyed”(?!?) in ONE round?!? (lol) TITOPA, that’s a hysterical fanboy overreaction. especially considering how Lopez’s career subsequently imploded v. Salido. you have no choice but to classify Salido head and shoulders above Lopez but do you really consider Salido that much better than Ponce? C’Monnn?!? Get a Grip.

te tumbo – How to you “avoid” someone you SMOKED?? C’mon! JuanMan absolutely DESTROYED De Leon, walked in there and slayed him without even braking a sweat…he made it look, EASY! NO way was he “avoiding” De Leon, that’s comical.

Posted January 29, 2014 4:37 pm

Titopa

Hmm. De Leon taking advantage of a watered down version of the old JuanMa, even then, JuanMa has a chance…he BLITZ through De Leon the first time around, I mean, DESTROYED him…I can see him getting at De Leon again, but at this stage of his career…his legs may not allow him to, this is a toos up IMO.

Posted January 29, 2014 4:35 pm

Yeah JuanMas legs are done. This has to do with how he doesn’t stay in shape in between fights and the beating he took from Salido.

Juanma was a hard and accurate puncher, but I never quite understood why so many people were so high on the guy. Hand speed wasn’t great, poor defense, poor balance…. Sure, he would probably take you out in a phone booth, but skills pay the bills in boxing. On the flip side, I’ll put some money that if Verdejo doesn’t run into a cement fisted coward, he’ll be in the P4P list in a couple of years.

Juanma was on his way up but after those wars with salido he wasn’t the same fighter , kind of like when cotto fought pacman, or when Vargas fought Tito, a beating like that can very well change the course of your career, still can’t say that I take ponce over him though ill take juanma by decision

Killing Moon The Soothsayer

I honestly thought Juanma was the future of boxing …Boy was I wrong! He’s only 30 he should just call it quits…He’s even worse damaged than a Jermain Taylor…From here on and forward it really is playing with his health…I wouldn’t be surprised if De Leon clocked him…Sad.

The only fight Juanma should be in is a tight competition with John Kerry to determine who’s face more resembles a horse.

it is apparent that Juama needs some defensive adjustments,as he has no good defense, offense alone has gotten him to the top,but at the top he just failed bad in the defensive department.Too easy to hit and slow footwork. His big puncfh always bailed him out before he ran into the very best in the division. He may have a chance against De leon who can bang also but also can be hit.

I remember when Lopez KTFO Ponce de Leon. He was looking like a world class guy back then. Apparently his camp thinks revisiting that will bring him back to form. I doubt it. He’s shot now.

I will be absolutely shocked if this goes further than 5 rounds. I have never seen a former top tier fighter, so badly and completly shot continue to campaign against top competition. This includes Roy Jones JR. Juanma will lose and the KO will look scary.

Finally, after realizing that Juanma’s wars in championship fights against top-level opponents have caught up to him, Deleon musters the ‘courage’ to step in the ring with Juanma once again after suffering what can only be called as an embarrassing arse kicking by a superior fighter in every manner possible. Of course, a prime Juanma vs a prime Daniel produces a Juanma victory by first round KO ten out of ten times, but it’s clear that Juanma has slipped so much that even a PoncedeLeon should take home the ‘victory’. If one could even consider that a victory it would have to be a ‘moral’ one. This fight shouldn’t really even be in an undercard, but as boxing is run by dollars and only this, it would be a logical choice to crowd a card with at least one mejicano. 13 billion countrymen will be cheering him on with sombreros, chihuawas, burritos, piñatas, ak-47’s and anything else within reach. However, a far more interesting matchup should be the well-schooled Collazo who’s been the victim of typical boxing shenanigans against the feather minded Ortiz tomorrow night. Of course Collazo will win, but the real question when exactly will the Mexican chihuawa throw in the white taco. I’m thinking that around the 6th, Ortiz will have had enough. He’s a good kid and I wish him luck but the squared circle isn’t his place.

JuanMa gets hit way too easily he is finished.

By the way does anyone know when Oscar is coming out of rehab. We really some more good match ups. The beginning of this year isn’t looking very good so far. I don’t believe HBO and Showtime has any fights in Feb.

the rematch that JuanMono has been desperately avoiding has become unavoidable at the very moment he appears most vulnerable. Ponce by KO. that freak-loss to Lopez set his career back years. he can’t make up for the lost time but he can earn some satisfaction by proving that Lopez was the luckier fighter that night and not the superior fighter overall. a KO win for Ponce should just about wrap it up for Lopez.

Posted January 29, 2014 1:21 pm
