That’s true, But Oscar walked away with $58 million after his fight with Floyd. Floyd didn’t touch that for his fight with Canelo.

Canelo was a very marketable kid. But after the “fight” he put up against Floyd he’s not going to be as marketable. He didn’t do anything. He didn’t do as well as Cotto, Judah, or Mosley did against Floyd. Considering the fight Garcia and Matthysse put on in the co-main event, it made it look even worse. Like he just wanted to minimize the punishment and pick up a monster check.

“” According to Dan Rafael of ESPN.com, Cotto has been offered a purse of well over $10 million, if he’s willing to, once again, jump ship and fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, March 8, on Showtime pay-per-view. The Puerto Rican legend’s previous high payday came in his challenge of Mayweather and would seemingly pale in comparison to this offer.
That’s a big wad of cash to turn down, and it’s more than a payday.””

—Haha. $10 million reasons why not to take the fight with Canelo. Cotto knows he would get beat by Canelo. So much for your puerto rican heros. Thats why he is choosing Sergio Martinez for less money?

Btw, Molina has something that Canelo doesn’t: a title. not to mention an unofficial win over Lara who he roughed-up as an underdog on FNF. Molina should be calling Lara out and demanding a rematch. after all, he’s a champion; Lara is a contender; and they’ve got unfinished business . . . “Let’s Get It On!”

Golden Boy promotions is giving us good fights. I think Lara/Canelo is a possibility. They made Angulo vs Kirkland. Lara vs Trout. Danny Garcia vs Matthysse. Even the biggest fight, Canelo vs Mayweather that everyone said wouldnt happen…They mix it up pretty good. Its TOP RANK who makes these mediocre fights that suk.

Gallinas de Puelto Lico

Angulo was a bad matchup in styles. But GBP made the fight happen between Angulo and Lara. If Angulo could get to Lara, I bet Canelo could drop Lara easily. Especially now with the Mayweather experience. Hes still young and he is only getting better and more experienced. Thats why they are waiting for the Canelo vs Lara match up. Dont be dissapointed “PUBLIC ENEMY”. That fool said Trout would box Canelo’s ears off…what happened? He’s saying the same thing about Lara now.

Posted January 7, 2014 6:09 pm

You guys they’re not gauging how Canelo would do against Lara by matching him against Angulo. GBP knows that’s a bad stylistic match up and won’t put him in with Lara under any conditions. Just like Floyd will never fight Pacquiao, Martinez will never fight GGG and Stevens will never fight Kovalev. Forget about Canelo-Lara.

Carlos Molina owns a title. perhaps Lara should FInally rematch Molina, earn a title, and do his part to build-up su$pense for a potential showdown v. Canelo(?). of course, Lara has been diligently avoiding Molina and isn’t going to risk another loss, which would essentially place him at the end of the line for PPV showdowns.

This is a good action fight, but I would not shell our pay-per-view money for it. Lara has earned his chance, but he is long on ability and short on appeal. In this division, no one can beat him but who wants to watch him? He is a great deal of risk with questionable return.
Of course, Alvarez will make money whoever he fights, but Angulo is an easier job.

Posted January 7, 2014 9:43 am

Papo

This is a good choice of opponent for a boxer coming off from a defeat. It’s still somewhat risky as Angulo can be tough; especially if he takes the fight seriously. He is also as big as Canelo and we all know Canelo hasn’t fought many fighters his own size. Angulo has what it takes to upset an untested Canelo and place himself in great position for a big fight.

Having said that, I agree with the majority…this is not a PPV event, perhaps not even a Showtime network event. The only reason it may sell is that some people still believe Canelo is the future of boxing. For most, it doesn’t matter that his resume is full of weaker competition…they still believe he’s the one.

Easy fight for Canelo… Just the fight I thought they would make for him… Obviously they weren’t going to fight Erislandy Lara, who completely shut out Trout while landing many more and harder punches… Canelo actually was outscored significantly by Trout and only won by landing harder punches that did more overall damage.

Let’s see, Canelo has better speed, power, defense, agility, experience, athleticism, better all around boxing skills. Hmm….What else? This is the biggest set up fight ever. Canelo will destroy Angulo regardless of how many rounds it lasts. I’ll say this fight lasts under 8 rounds and possibly under 4 rounds. Horrible fight. I would bet my house, retirement, cars, bank accounts and my next life on this one. Canelo clearly toys with Angulo and stops him. This will make Canelo look like a million dollars. Trust me on this, Angulo has zero chance.A

I agree here. This is far worth to be a PPV fight as it is now. If legend and World light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins can be included as a Co-Main Event against a name opponent (I would wish for an volontary granted title defence against Roy Jones Jr in a 3rd final fight) and then some upcoming tallent, then mabey its worth it.

BUT I find all this PPV talk very uninteresting and that is not what boxers and fights are about and why should we care?

I mean isent it bad enough that we have to deal with glamour boxers like “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather Jr’s incredible greed and lack of heart for true boxing spirit to talk more about PPV sells, money, images etc then actual fights to be rememberd for in a legacy?
In his little world, No PPV sells and the money are mosty important and his fans buys that and sometimes I find it sad to both hear and see.

For evrey Mayweather Jr, there are a thousand of good boxers who never earns any good money in there boxing careers BUT they work hard and have heart and that is what boxing was and is still all about.

The money is sure important BUT if that is the image, then there are no real boxer in heart, despite the tallent in the ring.

Canelo will put him away in the 7th or 8th.. too much power and too fast for the neanderthal(Angulo)…. just sayin’

FEARS

No way is this PPV! However; it could be a good interesting fight depending on how much Angulo has left after that loss Lara put on him. Angulo’s chin and head durability was his greatest attribute, but with that being broken in his last fight he may not ever be the same again. I’ve seen it so many times thru the years, and I tell you, those are the kind of beatings that most fighters can’t get back to their previous form. I’ve always liked Angulo, and I hope he rebounds from the Lara fight. If he does, he will give Canelo Hell!

As I said before, I like both fighters, but Angulo, he’s been fighting jr middleweights like Lara (tough and fast) Kirkland (good power, hungry) and Canelo has fought Trout which was beat by Lara and Floyd (saftey first, defensive) fighters. This will be none of those. Power for Power, I think Angulo has alot more power but Canelo has the technique down better. Should be a good and intresting match up. Definately worth watching…

I do not think this is a PPV. They originally hinted that Broner vs Madaina was a PPV. After the feedback they got on that they came down to reality. This is a good showtime card. I like Canelo as a showtime fighter. I despise him as a PPV fighter. I just don’t feel he is of the level that a PPV fight should be.

Even in the few losses Angulo has he has always battled this will be interesting at a fair price I would pay to see this

This is great news and can even shed a bit on how good Mayweather is. I mean Angulo is a very proven and hardy fighter and if Canelo can dominate him then we know Canelo is more than just hype. Angulo also was fairly even with Lara who dominated Trout who was fairly even with Canelo. Styles make fights but these two fights adds are nice evidence.

This ain’t playing it safe. Angulo is a legit opponent. A strong hard hitting one. He was turning the Lara fight around before his orbital bone broke. It has been a close fight all the way through. I like this matchup. Canelo takes on worthy challenges.

I dont know guys. You all think it will be an easy fight but Angulo has a strong chin not to mention he has had wars with Kirland and Lara. Power for Power, I give Angulo a fair chance at winning this. I like both fighters but Angulo is no puch over. Should be good while it lasts…
