The Law

What is odd to me is that the fans for Manny are acting like the fans for Canelo. The fans for Canelo thought Floyd was scared and would crumble due to fighting a “real fighter,” Floyd fought a bigger and younger man and beat him easily. What has Manny done for his fans to believe Manny can beat Floyd? How would Manny do against Canelo in a fight?

better call Saul

Ricardo, who gives a sh&t about recent losses and all that bullsh%^? Does any real boxing fan actually think that Maidana is going to give Floyd a better fight than Paq? Hell no and if they do, they’re are just Paq haters. Paq beat bradley I don’t care what anyone says. Once Paq beats Bradley again, there will be more bullsh&t flowing.

This forum is filled with so many dam& losers it’s really quite sad. People arguing about how rich Floyd is and Paq needs Floyd more than Floyd needs Paq, it’s quite incredible. I just want to see a good fight. Personally, I think Floyd would beat Manny and my even do it easily. But that doesn’t mean I don’t think the fight should happen.

I haven’t read the article, but what’s interesting about this is that Manny is losing to everyone not named Mayweather….yet everyone feels Floyd has to face him to be better than him??? Don’t see the logic there. If Pacquiao was just another fighter, particularly after his loses, NO ONE would say he should get a shot at Mayweather. But despite 2 losses in his last 3 fights, somehow he’s still the “measuring stick” for FMW??? Give it up guys.

I’m Scurred of a Yellow Midget

Somewhere inside Floyd Mayweather’s head, you’d like to think there is a delete or stop button. That little voice telling him to “shut up” or “watch what you say before you say it.” In the foreground of boxing for the last 10 years, we’ve found that apparently there isn’t. Why is Mayweather missing the filter most contemporary pro athletes have?

Before Mayweather utters something inane, which he frequently does, you can almost see the smoke coming out of his ears before an asinine statement spills out, gets picked up, and before you know it’s zapped to a million places in the real-time, social media world we live in today.

But before Facebook and Twitter became iconic icons attached to everything we currently do and see, Mayweather had a habit of saying idiotic things.

Here’s a potpourri, past and present, of Mayweather’s 15 most asinine quotes of all-time—in descending order:

15. “I don’t duck or dodge anybody,” which is actually a phrase Mayweather has said throughout his career, yet he’s come up with myriad excuses why he’s never got into the ring with Manny Pacquiao.

14. “Who has [Antonio] Margarito beaten to deserve a shot at me? Once he beat two or three big names then we’ll fight. Me and Margarito, we’re not fighting to prove to the boxing fans who the best is. Who is Margarito? He don’t bring s— to the table,” Mayweather used this as an excuse for not fighting Margarito. Margarito at the time was a very viable opponent.

13. “I hate Bob Arum, he ain’t s—; he’s nothing but a liar, he lies about everything,” an enraged Mayweather said after breaking with Top Rank and making the move to rap impresario James Prince as his promoter in 1999. This came after Mayweather said a year earlier, “I have the best promoter out there in Bob Arum. Bob Arum is the greatest promoter in history. I love Bob Arum. I love HBO.”

12. “My team calls all the shots out of the ring, I call them in the ring,” something Mayweather repeated to me a number of times, though it’s far from the truth. Money May calls the shots. When he broke away from Bob Arum, he made the decision. When he decided to break away from his father, Floyd Sr., it was his call. Mayweather is king of the “Money Team,” his traveling entourage.

11. “Absolutely not. I took the plea. Sometimes they put us in a no-win situation. I had no choice, but I don’t worry about going to jail. Better men than me have been there. I’m pretty sure Martin Luther King’s been there, and Malcolm X. I have taken the good with the good so I’ll accept the bad with the bad,” Floyd Mayweather to Georgetown sociology professor Michael Eric Dyson on HBO’s Speaking Out Special on April 21.

10. “I’m not in the game for just the money, I’m in the game to be a legend. And to give the fans and media all around the world exciting fights,” Mayweather said prior to fighting Carlos Baldomir in November 2006 for the WBC welterweight world championship. Then Money May put on a boxing display in which, if he put his foot on the gas, would have stopped Baldomir at any time.

9. “[Shane] Mosley will never fight me. I love to fight him. But you know he don’t want a dosage of truth,” Mayweather said in 2007. The fact is, they did fight, and Mayweather won in dominating fashion. But not before Mosley took the boxing world’s breath away by jolting Mayweather in the second round, teetering for a moment.

8. “They talk about Kelly Pavlik, a white fighter, like he’s the second coming. Or they go crazy over Manny Pacquiao. But I’m a black fighter. Is it racial? Absolutely. They praise white fighters, they praise Hispanic fighters, whatever. But black fighters, they never praise,” Mayweather said about HBO boxing commentators in July 2008.

Mayweather said some wacky things to HBO’s Larry Merchant after beating Ortiz.
7. “You know me. I’m running my mouth a lot, and I’m looking for a guy to shut me up. If you don’t shut me up, I’m going to keep running my mouth. Nobody can beat me. There is no way to beat me,” Mayweather has stated numerous times.

6. “I’ll beat the s— out of Manny Pacquiao. He knows that,” Mayweather has said, but we may never know because something always seems to get in the way of this ever happening: Olympic-style drug testing, supposed negotiations that took place (which Mayweather’s people said didn’t take place) and Mayweather’s most recent proposal of a 60-40 split in favor of him.

5. “You know what I’m going to do, because you never give me a fair shake, so I’m going to let you talk to Victory Ortiz; I’m through put someone else up here and let them give me an interview. You never give me a fair shake. HBO needs to fire you because you don’t know s— about boxing; you ain’t s—; you’re not s—,” Mayweather said to HBO commentator Larry Merchant during the post-fight interview after knocking out Victory Ortiz.

4. “I’m in the same shoes as Ali. They hate me when I’m at the top, but once my career is over, they’re going to miss me,” Mayweather told Dyson in the HBO Speak Out Special. Really? The same shoes as Ali? Mayweather protested for being drafted into an unjust war that threatened his life and livelihood during a turbulent racial climate when whites and blacks, in some parts of the south, couldn’t walk on the same sidewalk together? Really?

3. “That’s a slave contract,” Mayweather told then-HBO head Lou DiBella in October 1999, refusing to sign a contract for seven-fight, $12.5-million deal. Mayweather also told me when I was doing a story for Ring Magazine, “Why would I sign a contract like that. It’s slave wages.”

2. “We’re going to cook that little yellow chump…Once I kick the midget ass, I don’t want you all to jump on my d—. So you all better get on the bandwagon now…Once I stomp the midget, I’ll make that mother f—– make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice…We’re going to cook him with some cats and dogs,” a Mayweather clarion public moment in September 2010, when he went on a Manny Pacquiao-rant spewing into the camera.

1. “Ali was a great fighter, but I’m better. [Sugar Ray] Robinson was a great fighter, but I’m better,” Mayweather told HBO’s cameras on 24/7 in building the hype machine for the May 1, 2010 Mayweather-Shane Mosley fight.

While Mayweather is the greatest fighter of this generation, this generation pales far in comparison to when Ali and Robinson fought. The talent pools of those eras were much, much deeper than they are now. Ali prevailed in the greatest era of the heavyweight division, and Robinson was in with killers like Henry Armstrong, Jake LaMotta, Gene Fullmer, Carmen Basilio and Kid Gavilan.

Ali was able to get away with proclaiming himself as “The greatest of all-time,” rolling his eyes in his animated way and soliciting laughter. Sure, Ali believed it, but he also had a genuine, jovial way in expressing it, far different than the arrogant self-infatuating manner Mayweather does.

Is this article meant to be funny? The only reason Floyd talks about Manny is because he’s asked about Pacquiao every day of his life by every reporter on earth. Floyd and Golden Boy Promotions have done a great job of making Mayweather the #1 PPV attraction in boxing by putting them in there versus carefully selected opponents and by stacking the undercard with great fights. To say that “Floyd needs Manny” is laughable. I want to see the fight as much as the next guy, but let’s keep it real.

Old Coot,

This article is talking about what Pacquiao was not what he is today, Most non boxing fans don’t even mention him anymore. The people that I talk to all say that he is done, even his coutry men that I work with that were Pacquiao cant be beat have written him off. This Article was closer to truth in 2009, but now it’s nowhere near that. Proof is he only did 500,000 against Rio, Floyd did 875,000(if you ask some) or 1,000,000 against Guerrero.

Pay attention, what I’m saying is because of FLoyd ego he will do the opposite of what everyone is trying to goud him into doing. Smart money is to pump his ego and antagonize it. Wow not a piece of common sense in the group. You push he push back and again we hadn’t heard Floyd mention Pacquiao unless asked by the media. This article act as if out of nowhere Floyd starts in on Pacquiao, the truth is he start after being questioned about him.

If you read what I had written it was about Arum breaching the subject and everyone chiming in while Arum had not intention of ever having a fight with Mayweather because Arum booked a date for Pacquiao in April. We all know tha Mayweather has the May date booked, so if you are to blind to see the intentions of Arum in this you go ahead and be led around by the nose. I’ll continue to look at everything and understand that bottom line is both fighter are in it for the money. And Pacquiao did sub 500,000 PVP and I few more good showing by Pacquiao will bring that number back up and this fight will sale out the roof. Pacquiao some how has to recapture his fan base so that both fighters will get paid big no matter what the split.

Fedor: I love how you Floydiots pretend the fight is dead when like every 3rd or 4th article on any boxing site, is about what would STILL biggest fight in history. Hmmm… I wonder why so many of Floyd’s fans are dead set on outright dismissing the fight? Could it be that you don’t want to see the “washed-up, has-been” (Floyd’s words) with 5 losses, (3 of them KO’s), be the first to genuinely beat and perhaps even KO Floyd? Yeah… THAT’S it, huh?

The only time Floyd brings Manny up is when the Media put him in his face. Floyd doesn’t need Manny, I wish people would stop trying to force Floyd to fight him by saying he’s scare. It seems for a person like Floyd you are going to get the exact opposite just because he his own boss. Now if this fight doesn’t happen I would more blame all of the idiot media that thought that call some one scare was going to work. Floyd has made millions with out Manny and as it seems will continue to make millions without Manny. Bod said Manny is back and wants a Mayweather fight then books a date for April. Does this even come close to Manny and Arum wanting a Mayweather fight or was it another Arum media stunt. To me it sounds like a media stunt, that all of the Pacquiao fans bought into.
Now all you guys are talking Mayweather vs Pacquiao again just like Arum wanted it but booked a date for April with Pacquiao. Some people are just plain stupid.

Floyd can careless about Manny. He really wants to see how desperate. Manny and Arum gets and this time they will have no choice but to agree to his terms and thats the way its looking because Manny is broke and running out of worthy fighters too make some serious money he has to stop fighting the Rios, Marquez and the Bradleys because no one is interested in seeing those fights. And he needs to start winning big beating guys down like he use to then and only then will Floyd fight him.

–“What’s this fight going to do for my legacy?” Floyd asked before squaring off against Ricky Hatton two-and-a-half years ago. “I got no fake answer. It’s not going to do nothing for my legacy. I’m fighting because I’m a business man. I’m like Bob Barker. ‘Come on down.’ If the price is right, let’s make it happen.”

—“Thereafter, Ellerbe stated publicly that the Alvarez camp had begun the negotiations with an offer to fight at a catchweight and declared, “His management is inept. We take advantage of those kinds of things. They suggested it. Why would we say no and do something different. They put him at a disadvantage, his management did. It wasn’t that Floyd asked for a catchweight because, absolutely, that did not happen. Floyd would have fought him regardless. His management put that out there. So if you have an idiot manager, that’s what it is.”

The Alvarez camp responded by saying that Ellerbe was lying.

“Why would I give up weight?” Canelo asked rhetorically. “I’m the 154-pound champion. When the negotiations started, they wanted me to go down to 147, then 150, then 151, finally 152. I said I’d do it to make the fight. But it’s not right that they’re lying about it. I don’t want to fight two pounds below the weight class, but it was the only way I could get the fight.”

“Being the A-side is about having leverage,” Ellerbe fired back. “We’re always going to put every opponent at a disadvantage if we can.”

“Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s auxiliary goal in the sport of boxing, for over four years now, seems to have been to tear down the image of Manny Pacquiao in any way he can. Floyd can’t and/or won’t do it in the ring so he does it outside of the ring with racial and ethnic slurs, mocking insults, false and damaging accusations, and various other attempted belittlements. A mission of sorts, clearly Manny has been on Floyd’s mind more than Floyd has been on his.

Floyd likely hoped Manny was done, once and for all, after Marquez knocked him out last year, likely betting that he would never have to face him in the ring or to compete with him again in any venue or on any level. But Manny came back in impressive style and now, Floyd can’t handle it. He thought Marquez had put out Pacquiao’s lights permanently. Instead, they are shining again, and even if not as brightly as before, there remains a strong glimmer of hope and confidence for, and in the man. Floyd Mayweather Jr. simply cannot handle this truth.

Here’s a question: If Manny is so insignificant, if he’s so much lesser than Floyd, if he’s not on Floyd’s level, if Floyd won’t fight him until he leaves Bob Arum, why is Floyd wasting so much brain and vocal energy on Manny Pacquiao?

Among the answers to that question might be envy, jealousy, contempt, and hate. These appear to be the emotions and thoughts that Floyd Mayweather Jr. has for Manny Pacquiao. Floyd has demonstrated these traits over and over and over through the years, from PED use accusations, to cell phone video rants, to calling the man a “midget” and “yellow” (referring to his race, not his courage), and recently, he published an insulting “Christmas Card” and artwork of him supposedly smashing Manny Pacquiao in the ring. The man works so visibly hard to demonstrate his hate for Manny Pacquiao. But why?
Perhaps Floyd Mayweather Jr. is obsessed with Manny Pacquiao and he cannot cope with Pacquiao’s greatness. This is not to say Pac would beat him if they fought—or vice-a-versa. But there is something about Manny Pacquiao that Floyd just cannot let go of. Maybe it’s because where Floyd Mayweather Jr. is well-known, Manny Pacquiao is an international hero. Maybe it’s because where Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the highest paid athlete in professional sports, Manny Pacquiao has more followers and fans than any other single athlete in the world. Maybe it’s because while Floyd Mayweather Jr. burns one hundred dollar bills and boasts about all his white luxury cars, Manny Pacquiao is recognized as a savior to his Filipino brothers and sisters.

Mayweather has demonstrated a foolishly abusive nature that has been checked only once by a short jail term. Well, actually it’s been checked twice, at least: Once by the jail term, and a second time by the out-of-court monetary settlement (a hefty one, no doubt) and written settlement agreement he had to give Manny Pacquiao for levying unsubstantiated PED-use accusations against him (You can smell the hate brewed from that). Yet, the foolish streak in Floyd Mayweather Jr. is as big as his ability to earn money, to be a super star, and to become a celebrity. The black spot of foolishness is more evident in Floyd Mayweather Jr. than the yellow streak that runs down the back of a coward.

Alas for Floyd, Manny Pacquiao has proven to himself to be a champion not only in the ring, but in heart, mind, and disposition as well. This is a type of champion that Mayweather has no idea of how to confront, much less to defeat. While Floyd relies on narcissistic bragging, insults, racial and ethnic attacks, and other low-handed efforts in an attempt to bring Pacquiao down while bolstering himself up at the same time, Manny counters with silence, humility, a smile, and peace. He gives Floyd no fuel for the shameful fire that burns within him and which Floyd cannot extinguish, because Floyd is his worst enemy in spite of himself. Floyd Mayweather acts like a big man on the outside, but on the inside it appears that he is very, very small.

50 years from now their portraits, dedication, and history will be on display in the Boxing Hall of Fame. 50 years from now Floyd Mayweather Jr. will still be remembered for his amazing boxing skills, his wealth, his business acumen, and quite possibly, as the greatest boxer to ever grace the sport.
In comparison, Manny Pacquiao will also be remembered as a fine boxer and warrior and like Mayweather, as one of the greatest boxers of all time. But he will also be remembered as a humble warrior with an undefeatable spirit, as a humanitarian, a savior, a man for the people, and as a leader.

If Floyd is lucky, his portrait, memorabilia and written history will be placed right next to that of Manny Pacquiao in the Boxing Hall of Fame. This will ensure that the biggest thorn in Mayweather’s side will be there to haunt him for as long as the Boxing Hall of Fame exists. And if there truly is an afterlife in which spirits have the power of voice and action, Floyd can continue to rant about Manny Pacquiao for all eternity. That should make his soul feel good. But who would listen? Or care?

To obsess is to need. At the end of the day, Floyd Mayweather Jr. needs Manny Pacquiao. Floyd cannot be as great as he thinks he is without having Manny Pacquiao by his side—in one way or another. Sad, really. If Manny Pacquiao is not on Floyd’s level, why does Floyd continue to stoop so ”low?””

I AGREE.

I think Silva, will be far more focused this time and cut out the Ali impersonations. He didn’t anticipate the quickness of Weidman, add to that the favt that he was way off center when Weidman followed through with his left, he was vulnerable and paid the price. This time I expect to see the Silva that demolished Rich Franklin. However Wridman has very solid wrestling skills. I agree, it’s good to see tje teo best square iff again. Floyd would rather keep this fight a fantasy fight for the peoples imagination because he thinks and probably is winning the Who would win – Floyd or Manny debate due to his O. He could cement his legacy as the best of his generation and one of the best all time with a victory over Manny but seems a risk he s not willing to take. He just looks simply afraid. Theres alot to lose. His O,his reputation and legacy, his bargaining and earning power, his oversized ego, his fans, although he would attract a more decent fanbase who would admire his courage for making the fight happen. And his looks,Ha Ha

You keep bringing up everything other just doing what you floydoids do. Stick to the facts manny has won more titles in more divisions. Manny is the biggest money fight, so is he a businessman today or isn’t he. A new excuse everyday. He says he is the most powerful in boxing yet he can’t get over an 82 year old man to get a fight done. Sick of excuses

Auzbox goodevening. You have in my view a valid point. This website is or should be about boxing. Not the Irs and Pacquiaos financial issues. A lot of Juniors fans are fixated on this issue and speak of it in a tone in which to like Junior belittle and make sport of Pacquiao. No discussion aboit boxing itself but ratjer truly meaningless dribble I daresay about an issue that no one really knows the facts fully. The comments sou.d petty and soap opera-ish in tone. You dont walk away from.a match of that magnitude and a financial windfall of that scope by blaming the promoter of your rival. In Juniors OWN WORDS he stated in a phone call with Pacquiao,”What if I lose?” “Im only a boxer, you habe another career to go to.” “I don’t”. That in and of itself says everything that needs to be said. This fight is happening and Anonymous is right. The Yanks NEED to let this cold trail GO. Cheers.

Of course this Article would generate the most buzz. Floyd’s a HUGE draw… but on the other side of the spectrum, Manny is a HUGE World Wide draw. So there are fans on both sides willing to voice their opinions on it. I’ve been following this would-be fight since it’s inception, and so far nothing has changed. Manny and Bob squandered away their cards by facing Tim Bradley and then fighting Marquez for a 4th time. That Fight made absolutely no sense to me, but who am I????

Floyd’s still making excuses while fighter way lesser opposition. Victor Ortiz had no fans….. so he wasn’t a draw. The Spanish/Mexican, Puerto Ricans jumped on the bandwagon because he was a fellow countryman, per se. Robert Guerrero had NO Following. Again, they rode his bandwagon because that 1 in a billion shot, was still a shot. (That’s why people still play Lotto, cause ‘Ya never know’.) No one was clamoring for Canelo Alvarez, no one. But then again, he was the best available other option. From a business standpoint… he had a TREMENDOUS Mexican following. And that would bring in the rest of the Spanish followers. Because even though they aren’t Mexican, they’re still Spanish… and they want to see Floyd LOSE.

MAYTWITTER’S new/old REASON is: “He doesn’t wanna play with Bob Arum”.

First it was PEDs.
Then it was, hes not playing with Bob.
Then it was, Manny’s not on my level.
Then it was, He MUST be on PEDs.
Then it was, I’m not playing with Bob.
Then it was, I’m a bigger PPV draw than Manny.
Then it was, Manny got KTFO, he aint on my level.
Now again it’s, I’m not playing with Bob.

So far none of it sounds business-like to me. Sounds pretty petty and childish. But reasons and excuses abound as to why MAYTWITTER refuses to Fight PACMAN. Why, Why, why???????

I won’t say Floyd is literally SCARED of Manny…. But he knows…. He has some inkling that if he fights Manny… There will be more questions than answers regarding his resume of fighters and his legacy.

If Floyd never fights Manny… the world could only speculate, as we’re all doing now. But if FLOYD actually gets the Testicular Fortitude to actually get in the ring with Manny, and doesn’t look amazing with a win, if he barely wins by SD, or worse some controversial win, Floyd’s legacy will be tarnished for sure. But if he never fights Manny, no one would know and they can speculate all they want…. Floyd’s smart like that, in a petty… childish, saving my record kindda way. But leaving 100 Million $$$ on the table doesn’t make any sense to me.

Posted December 27, 2013 6:35 pm

Manny Pacquiao rises above all this. He is the classiest athlete in all of sport. People don’t want to see a humble, honest, sincere, caring, honorable man handle things with true class and character. This is rare in boxing because of the intensity of a boxing match. Manny seems to draw more and more people to him wherever he goes. There’s nothing to dislike about him. he such a sincere, loyal man inside the boxing ring and outside in his other careers and personal life. Manny is always a breathe of fresh air. Manny should be given the sportsman of the year award if it’s available. The man has conquered the world with his persona and quality of a man he is. Manny’s the best!

Hmmm…. I’ve still haven’t seen one solid comment proving that Floyd is obsessed with Pacquiao and why. I have, however, seen plenty that points out how such a notion is foolish. The “Floyd is scarred” and “Excuses” commentary doesn’t cut it. And as predicted, over 100 plus comments yet again.

The boxing world is full of cowardly fighters. First Floyd Mayweather and First Juan Manual Marquez (Ped Man Marquez). Marquez reasoning is embarrassing and humiliating to him and the boxing world. He has convinced himself that having this so called “GOOD FEELING) is best for himself and boxing, but the reality is that Ped Man Marquez is playing a similar game that Floyd Mayweather is playing. Kind of like playing a one on one basketball game and being up 2-1 and not wanting to play another game because you’re one up and convinced you’re the better player. We are dealing with kids (Floyd/Marquez). One, Floyd plays with picture posts, and the other, Marquez plays with the “I beat you last so I’m better, and I’m not playing you any more.” How ridiculous can this be? Two grown men afraid of taking on Manny Pacquiao. Their excuses are laughable. Their legacies are crumbling as I type this post. They have lost credibility among boxing fans and past and present boxing peers. Marquez’s desperation to beat manny Pacquiao went from drinking his own piss to hiring the PED Supplier to the USA Olympic Track and Field Team. He’s without a doubt the worst whining, complaining sore loser in boxing. And the only fighter standing above both of these guys is the great Manny Pacquiao. While these guys are giving explanations and excuses as to why they won’t fight Manny, Manny himself is helping those less fortunate in their time of need.

I keep trying to give Maytwitter the benefit of the doubt. But the more years that have gone by and more BS that he’s alluded to, the more it seems that he’s really, scared. I thought Floyd and his croonies say, he’s such a great businessman. What businessman would hold a grudge instead of making 100 million dollars????? Would The Donald leave 100 million $$$ on the table???? Would the ‘Most Interesting Man in the World”, leave 100 Million $$$ on the table???? So how does this make ‘SMART’ business sense?

Floyd knows boxing, Floyd knows that when the annuls of history are opened, no one will remember or care that he cherry-picked opponents, and didn’t fight this one or that one in their primes. All that boxing history will relate to us who remember and our future generations is that he was ‘Undefeated’. He’s on a roll towards an unblemished record. But so what?!?!?! Big deal!!! Joe Calzagne is also undefeated…. He doesn’t even rank in my top 20….

Floyd is WWE………. Broner, (Mayweather 2.0) is WWE….. Like Tyson said…., Manny is the most exciting fighter between the two.

Auzbox your wrong but my numbers were off Pac owes 18m mill to USA IRS and 50mill to Philippines IRS. Either way my statements were correct May is Pacs life line to get him out of a hole. Only single fight that could really help him but problem is he has zero leverage and will not make any where near what he would have 3yrs ago. Again Pac should have taken the damn fight when he was on his A game. Now he is in a hole and Mayweather has the only rope than can pull him out.

According to official documents obtained by TMZ, Pacquiao failed to pay income tax on his earnings from 2006 to 2010, with his official debt totaling $18,313,668.79. The 34-year-old welterweight, who turns 35 on Dec. 17, spent much of his rise to prominence fighting overseas but began gravitating toward large United States-based spectacles as his international fame rose.

Pacquiao fought 12 times from 2006 to 2010, all but one of which were in the United States. Three of those bouts took place in Texas, which does not have a state income tax, but he would still be subject to federal income tax.

TMZ had the year-by-year breakdown on the individual totals Pacquiao owes the IRS:

2006: $1,160,324.30
2007: $2,035,992.50
2008: $2,862,437.11
2009: $8,022,915.87
2010: $4,231,999.01

The increases in amount owed seem to coincide with Pacquiao’s rise to arguably the most popular boxer in the world. In 2008, he defeated Juan Manuel Marquez, knocked out David Diaz and stopped Oscar De La Hoya in the eighth round. A year later, he scored high-profile knockouts of Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto.

It’s unclear whether TMZ’s numbers are from the year when Pacquiao owed the government money—remember, you typically pay taxes for the previous year—but considering his huge paydays for fights like the De La Hoya bout, it’s easy to surmise those make up a majority of his tax debt.

This is just the latest financial blow for Pacquiao, who has been known to have difficulty just making ends meet despite making tens of millions of dollars during his career. In November, the Associated Press reported via the New York Post that Pacquiao had to borrow money to pay for supplies for typhoon relief in the Philippines.

Pacquiao, who claims residence in his home country and serves as a congressman, owes the Philippine Bureau of Internal Revenue $50 million. Because the debt has gone unpaid, Pacquiao and his wife have seen their assets frozen and a lien placed on his property

moonshineman good post. Problem is Pac does not draw PPV like he used too and the money from any of the fights listed would net him maybe 10 mill each fight less after taxes. Pac has several issues to deal with right now that are major. 1. Needs 50mill to cover Philippines taxes which does not include US taxes probably looking at close to 90 mill total between both countries. 2. IF news article is correct his bank accounts have been frozen. 3, No guarantee he can win all the fights one loss and he is deeper in the hole. 4. Mayweather fight is the only one that could get him out of the IRS ditch problem is due to the Bradley loss and JMM KO Pac stock is lowerthan GM’s he has no leverage and want get anywhere near what he could have had 3yrs ago with that said Mayweather is the only life line Pac has at this point in time. Another thing to look at is if the fight 3rs ago had happened Pac would probably have made upwards 60 million and be even deeper in trouble with the IRS because the amount of taxes he owes would be even greater. End result Pac really screwed himself should have taken the damn random test.

Rem, i understand what ur saying. But why would floyd do business with a man who still owes him money? This is why Floyd left in the first place. Arums actions speak loud and clear. Hes not into sharing profits on a major scale. But the other question needs to be aksed and has yet to be answered. Why does Pac need top rank? Why did he bother to sign an extention? Doesnt he have Mp promotions? He can easily use that and promote himself. Wouldnt you agree?

One could easily say Pac is hiding behind arum. Trust me, Pac is not blind to the riff of arum and floyds relationship. I guarantee you, manny leaves Top Rank, the fight happens. Just like when cotto left, the fight happened. Just like Oscar left, floyd got that fight.

All this crap from Floyd haters gets old… Manny should fight Danny Garcia, who just challenged him… He should fight Shawn Porter… or Marcos Maidana… or fight Tim Bradley again… There are plenty of fights.

He needs to get a lot of money going so he needs to concentrate on fighting every 3 months… He can rest for a month while he’s putting a fight together and still have a 2-month training camp.

He needs to resign from congress where he’s producing no bills, action, or legislation of any importance — because he’s never there and his congressional staff sits around doing nothing.

He needs to pay off his tax debt, hire better a better tax accountant, and get all his personal problems ironed out… Then once he’s back in the black … and once he’s rid of Bob Arum for good … he can go after Floyd with a vengeance and call Floyd out until he gets the fight made once and for all … whether that’s 2015, 2016 or whenever.

Say what you want and write about u want about floyd. But at the end of the day, BOTH fighters have said something about one another and used each other for promotional purposes. From a business standpoint, who needs who? Floyd is making over 32 million a fight, 2.2 million buys in his last fight,

compared to a lowly 475,000 buys, taking advances from arum, and caught up in a major deal with the irs, and needs floyd to make major money because Manny knows recycled fights is not going to net him anything? Floyd is in the drivers seat in this matter. Pac fans can try to down play floyd all they want, but it wont work. And didnt pac say he was okay not fighting floyd? Hate on haters. Hecdog good day champ. Interesting commentary. I would say you are on the mark and then some in regards to Junior having a successful career, generating a lot of money for himself and his opponent. However as you astutely pointed out, a pretty food number of his fanbase is getting tired of these little sideshows and for all his well earned success he is a truly insecure man. Also not as confident in himself as he should be. Pacquiao possesses a quiet confidence that comes from bei.g very poor, working hard to support his family, taking some losses in his career and like a real man bouncing back and moving forward. His belief in Christ gives him.all the humility and confidence as a man and person that he will ever need. Cheers my friend.

Floyd Mayweather has no ethics, morals or values. He’s making a fool of himself continuing to play this childish game by posting dumb pictures. He’s creating a carnival atmosphere as he continues to diminish himself each time he does these dumb things. If Floyd isn’t concerned about Manny Pacquiao and doesn’t need him, why bring him up 24 hours a day? How is Floyd benefiting from this stuff? He’s already the most hated boxer/athlete in sports. He is only showing all of us how immature, arrogant and egotistical he is, and everyone is tired of him. Boxing fans are fans because we like to see fights in the boxing ring, not in the media, social net work sites etc. That proves nothing. Floyd looks like a kid hiding behind a big house yelling and threatening some kid that he wants to beat up, and once the kid comes, he runs for it. Floyd Mayweather has all the money, fame and materials he needs. He can call out any fighter and make himself richer and his opponent rich or very well off. He’s on top of the world right now So why does he continue to bring Manny up? It’s jealousy, envy and hate for both Manny Pacquiao and Bob Arum. The truth is Floyd is a spoiled, insecure human being that wants to have control of everything. The very money he’s earned is his own worst enemy. Floyd’s own fans are also tiring of having to defend him. They all hear the talk and see his demeaning posts about Manny Pacquiao, and indeed they are also waiting for Floyd to make the fight. They see Floyd mocking and attacking Manny in the news, and they are waiting for Floyd to finally back it all up and tell the world, “I want to fight Manny Pacquiao next.” And guess what, they will keep waiting and waiting because Floyd won’t fight Manny Pacquiao.

No this isn’t a hate piece. The writer is only telling the truth. Very seldom does Pacquiao respond to this individual. When Junior was incarcerated for spousal abuse Pacquiao did not kick him when.he was down. He to the contrary gave his support to Mayweather like a responsible and conscientious person would do. Here Mayweather dors the polar opposite. He as true to character or lavk of said character gloats for the benefit of his hip hop and sycophants fan base who encourage these kind of things. To be fair not all of his more sensible fans approve of this cheap buffoonish behavior. Kudos to them. A small group but still they exercise more independent thinking. The majority however failsto do so. Hatred? No. I dont feel Junior hates tje man .Too strong a word. However he dors his best to belittle him, denigrate him and make him seem irrelevant. That is an ISSUE that speaks volumes about his mindset. It isn’t business. Not at all. This is called being a cheap punk in attitude. Thank you Mr.Montgomery for this article. Cheers.

The problem is that when a White person makes fun or calls a Black person names. We call them racist. But when a Black person calls a Filipino names. We said he is just having fun. Black people are as Racist as a White person or any other human being who insults someone base on his/her skin color, gender, religion, or sexual orientation. Blacks stand behind this bias using their History of slavery, which is wrong and cowardly.

nothing Floyd ever said or “tweeted” diminished Pacquiao’s* stature and marketability more than his recent controversial wins, losses, and DEVASTATING KO loss v. 1/2 of his primary rivals, which Pacquiao* follows-up with a “boring” and “cowardly” pot-shotting performance v. Rios. No KOs. No TKO. not even an obligatory KD. no sane and sober person can possibly believe that “Money” is pleased by this sequence of events. Pacquiao* was his only $50-$100 million payday. a $howdown v. Pacquiao* on a parallel hot-streak made the most sense to Floyd. nowadays(?), Pacquiao* can’t even attract 400K PPVs on his home turf in his return bout(?!). at this point, Garcia, Maidana, Ruslan, the still-undefeated Bradley, and even Khan makes equal and a Lot more sense than restoring Pacquiao’s* dwindling bank account. if Pacquiao* guarantees Floyd his $50 million quote. no matter what it costs him. he can make it back in the rematch IF he manages to defeat Mayweather. IMO, that offer would make sense to Floyd. meanwhile, Arum should get serious about satisfying his own “requirement” and finally build that 40,000-seat arena that was his deal-breaker the last time he waved Manny’s* ass in Mayweather’s face.

Floyd is very wary of the little Filipino man for some reason. Manny’s career is truly legendary, he has won more titles at more weights than Floyd and he fought better competition in their prime than Floyd. A real champion and warrior.

I used to be a. Loyal floyd fan. But the truth is his pay-perview numbers aren’t all his. He fights only mexican who have huge followings on a mexican holiday in may because he knows their fans are going to tune in. And tthen he sees the payperview number from canleo’s huge fan base and de la hoya’s huge fan base and claim’s he has the record when that’s not true. Manny is a bigger draw around the world and more respected . Even 50 cent said of espn first take that floyd was ducking manny and all the signs point to that he was ducking all along. Floyd will never fight a athletic black fight that’s good like tim bradley or keith thurman because he won’t look good. Look at everytime he fought a black fighter that was good he was lsing early. Almost got stopped by mosley, cotto banged him up and floyd didn’t look good. Emmanuel augustus, chop_chop corley. Come on he’s not even close to the best ever y’all! Stop buying his ppv unless he step up and fight manny or bradley. Anyone but a mexican on cinco de mayo

TARK

This is another stupid hate piece on Floyd that doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Floyd and Pacquiao will no doubt fight and the gate and PPV will break all records… It’s a fight that will be great for Floyd’s legacy, but it’s not needed. Nobody has to fight anybody and that’s just a fact.

Floyd won’t be hurting at all if he doesn’t fight certain people. Floyd doesn’t own 68 million in taxes. He doesn’t get his entire purse frozen and confiscated by tax authorities… I believe Lara and Garcia pose bigger fistic challenges to Floyd right now. They’re more dangerous. He probably won’t fight them either because he doesn’t have to.

Floyd is not worrying or obsessed with Pacquiao… Floyd is the number one ranked fighter in the world… He would make the most money in a May-Pac fight.. Pac has to come to Floyd.. He needs the fight more than Floyd does.

Mayweather is just having him some fun at the expense of Pacquiao, Maidana, and Khan. It is unlikely that none of them take Mayweather seriously in terms of him insulting them. Everyone knows Mayweather likes to make fun of his opponents or potential opponents. Nothing worth fretting about.

Posted December 27, 2013 1:00 pm

von Pugsly

Mayweather knows that we know that he knows that Pacquiao knows that Pacquiao is the only one out there that might actually beat him. And we all know that Mayweather continues to find excuses to avoid the fight. First the money split wasn’t right. Then it was about a drug test (maybe the same drug test that Floyd’s two gym mates, Mickey Bey and J’Leon Love failed last year). Then it was about Manny not being worthy because he lost to Marquez (no shame in losing to a future HOF-er, especially when one already has wins over him, albeit close and controversial). Finally, we get an excuse that’s closer to the truth. The real reason is that the colossal egos of Floyd Mayweather and Bob Arum mutually exclude each other. Floyd’s fans continue their deluded cheerleading, nonetheless. Hope they enjoy watching Floyd fight the likes of Khan, Malignaggi and whoever else GBP serves up to him.

There’s no way I can agree with the whole article, but Floyd excuses for not fighting Pac are lamed at best. My guess is that deep down he’s not convinced he can beat Pac, or even Bradley for that matter. He’s either afraid of losing the fight or not too sure he can look good against either of them.

IMO, his biggest issue is the legacy he wants to leave behind after retiring. His obsession to retire with a perfect record makes for carefully selection of opponents that can make him lots of money, but at the same time pose as little risk as possible.

Whether he wants to admit it or not, not fighting Pac will be a thorn on his legacy. He can use all the weak excuses he wants, but the more he poke fun of Pac, the more will fans be convinced his afraid of losing to him.

Boxers aren’t scared of each other. That’s ridiculous. Particularly boxers who have reached the level that Floyd and Manny have reached. What they are scared of is losing marketability and making a business mistake (like Broner did by picking the wrong guy too soon). That’s no longer an issue here. This fight will happen. There is too much money to be made even after the powers that be wasted the opportunity to stage it four years ago. Now that there is interest again (worthy or not) both sides are ramping up the hostility to gauge true interest and the fans are buying it hook line and sinker. I except a preliminary fight for both guys in the spring to set the stage for the fight which will happen either in the fall or next November. Forget all the BS being thrown around. It will happen. Everyone just be patient and enjoy the send up. There’s no way the fight can live up to the hype anyway so might as well have fun watching the year long promotion.

This holiday week if not all the month of December–after Pacquiao fought Rios–all you saw on this website was article after article after article talking about Mayweather and rather he’ll fight Pacquiao or not. But some how Floyd is the one whose obsessed, because he made a Photoshop picture poking fun at Pacquiao and his detractors. That’s called a response, not an obsession. Every interview with Mayweather turns into a grilling about “Why won’t you fight Pacquiao?” Yet Floyd is the one obsessed? The truth is, this author and many other people whom won’t respect Floyd enough to let the man make his decisions are the ones really obsessed. The man has earned the right to determined who he wants to fight and why. So drop it already. Pacquiao had his chance and he let Arum ruined it for him. And Pacquiao has actually been talking about Mayweather, way before and after the Rios fight, before Floyd gave his first response about it. Sounds like Manny is the one really obsessed because he has money problems, which that 40 million might have solved if he’d taken it.

I’m going to let everyone in on a secret shhh… This is all a tactic he is using trying to anger or embarrass Pacqiao so he will be willing to leave Bob arum at least for one fight and make this fight. some people are so blinded by their dislike of Mayweather they cant see that it’s a simple baitng tactic.

@ Prince : You seem as partisan as those ‘pactards’ you are slating.

Why do Mayweather fans keep insisting the Pacquiao fight is not necessary? Surely any actual boxing fan wants to see the best fight the best? rather than see the best fight the likes of Ortiz, Guerrero, Rios etc? Mayweather almost certainly beats Pacquaio however it would be a fight with more credibility than most of his recent ones.

To fedor! Floyd is not undisputed champ, he has 1 belt!
He is not unbeaten, he lost to Castillo.
Great boxer but I’ll sure remember him for ducking pacman.

WHY A BLACK FIGHTWER SCARED OF PACQUIAO …CLOTTEY ,MOSLEY & GIVING A WIN TO BRADLEY EVEN HIM CANT BELIEVE IT COME ON FLOYD ..YOU NEED TO MAN UP FOR BLACK FIGHTERS …….

Floyd taking shots doesn’t mean they are always on his mind. Pacs the one who will have fights scheduled but yet always talking that he wants Floyd. Only problem is he ends up taking Ls

The Prince

Sad how Pactards can only respond with insults instead of logic. It just proves that most Mayweather fans are fans of boxing, while Pacquiao fans have their own agenda. Manny should be grateful Floyd isn’t obsessed with him, because if the fight happened and Floyd won (which he would) these same Pactards would’ve abandoned Manny years ago, because they’re not true fans of any boxer, they just want someone to beat Floyd.

floyd has mental problems because his daddy got his mom on crack and used floyd as shield against ashotgun blast. thank God the guy shot floyd in the leg and didnt get lil floyd. Thats why floyd tries to fight his daddy but wont fight 50 cent after he smacked floyd around and took his girls. ray jay took floyds girls and had them rob his house. pray for floyd this new year.

What a load of BS this article is…Floyd is not only a better & more intelligent fighter than Pac but also more successful & a lot richer; so what’s there to worry about?

Posted December 27, 2013 9:45 am

fedor

the fact is floyd is still undefeaded undisputed champion, where is pacquiao lost to bradley & got kaoed by marquez , his pay per view against rios was poor, so what you expect from floyd of course he calls the shots , pacman has missed the opportunity to fight floyd couple of years ago , floyd legacy is unmarked with or without pacquiao full stop.
