Sergio is a little too tough for Floyd.

SRED, Never questioned whether Sergio can get hit or not both Sergio & floyd are human whether you believe it or not & can/will get hit.Jr,cotto proved that along many others,Mosely.Respect floyd no doubt he will hit Sergio my point is he won’t hurt him no matter how bad floyd fans want to think that(He didn’t hurt a 38yr 135lb Marquez,39 yr old Mosely he won’t hurt the Middleweight champ of the world at 154lb period).Floyd’s will get his but so will Sergio & what is floyds power compared to a full blown Crusierweight(chavez)???Nothing! Floyd can’t/won’t hurt Sergio,He can hit floyd & when he does he’ll hurt him.Floyd has skill, defense advantage over Sergio but Martinez neutralizes that with his jab, power,Iq.No fighter who calls out the best ward to Sergioafter Martinez agrees to 164catchweight then flees to 175 after Sergio’s performance over 180lb+ fighter jr deserves to be called the best. Sergio’s agreed to fair terms with both floyd/ward 154lb/164 both declined Sergio #2 by default if ward doesn’t want it.If floyd doesn’t want the best either in p4p top 3 Sergio he should retire.Cotto, canelo, ortiz, mosely are not 4p4 caliber cotto might have a case with his resume but that’s it Marquez was 135lb look how many idiots floyd’s fooled the proof is in the pudding.Pac is a former flyweight lol yet Floyd;”My health is more important”,”What if I lose?to pac” this is the guy that calls himself the best & a threat to Sergio? Please lol what a joke.Martinez want’s Floyd/ward but the so called best don’t want him, who’s really at fault making/excuses??Floyd/ward fans should stop the bs excuses just say you don’t want Sergio to expose your idol,Sergio’s a threat to both & willing to put it all on the line they aren’t case close.

Still trying to figure out, floyds career defyning win, what win made you decide he was GOAT?? Oscar made him a household name…. Zab was always outgunned, but if you follow boxing rules….floyd should have been disqualified….roger jumped in the ring, mid round, that results to disqualification….but in all seriousness Who did he beat? That made him GOAT? Undefeated record you say? 1. Rocky Marciano: 49-0
2. Joe Calzaghe 46-0
3. Samson Dutch Boy Gym 43-0
4. Sven Ottke 34-0
5. Michael Loewe: 28-0
6. Edwin Valero: 27-0
7. George Kandelaki 24-0
8. Pichit Sitbangprachan 24-0
9. Harry Simon 25-0
10. Scott Daley 24-0…..

These guys are all undefeated….GOAT??? I just want to understand…..maybe the answer is not logical….just like bipolar floyd

Boxeo- with Martinez hands down? This dude defense is to dance around! He can’t stand toe to toe with Floyd. He will beat him to the punch and will take him to a hip hop dance class. Not ballerina dance! Lol!

@havoc. I agree that floyd will make him miss….but if floyd stands still like he did against cotto, then the edge is for sergio…. He will get caught, just like sergio did, in the chavez fight…

Good point Boxeo,I agree. In my opinion may has always cherry picked fights.Ortiz was so outclassed His only huge win was Berto! He quit in Maidona fight.Marquez was a Lifetime 135lb fighter!! Floyd agreed to a catchweight to JMM.Then Floyd disregarded their agreement & weighed in @ his normal weight.Another mismatch.People also forget Floyd did`nt want any part of P williams Or sergio.Thats why they fought each other. The real great fighters Like Leonard, hearns,Haglar,Robinson, etc Fought everyone!! That`s why they will always be considered amongst the best.Just because someone is undefeated does`nt mean much.If the competition is`nt the greatest. All of the greatest fighters have lost before.Competition makes you great not undefeated.LOL Joe calzahge & the fighting fireman were undefeated! LOL

Small, m or big to you? Floyds claims GOAT….prove it….all nutthuggers can’t fanthom the idea of floyd fighting a pickem fight……tell me honestly…..the last time floyd was not the overall favorite to win….its not bc of his skills, its bc of matchmaking….think about it???? I believe floyd is a top 10 p4p goat….but he took the easy road….he didn’t really take a hard road….and most will justify every decision he makes, just like floyd recently stated that he never said pacman took steroids….which if you ever watched or heard floyds interviews, he commented that manny did abuse, if not, why the hard stance on testing? And that BS about cleaning up the sport….is just that….test only him and his opponent, but his undercard??? Nobody is tested!!!! Floyd fans…..wake up…unless you wear a gstring….floyd does not care about you!!!!! The baddest p4p fighter in the world needs a crew of bodyguards!!!! And is chilling w RAYJ????? That is your role model??? GTFO

Marquez came looking for Mayweather and got to fight him after a 21 months layoff, this same Marquez gave the fighter of the decade absolute hell at the weight, meanwhile Mayweather just whitewashed him… Fighters have a right to stay within their division and if Martinez does not wanna go up to 168, I can respect that but he also cannot make a case that other fighters need to keep facing bigger men to accomodate his need for a paycheck…If you are going to argue that Martinez is a “small MW” then whats the reality that Mayweather is a “small WW” 14 pounds lighter than Ortiz who was then new to the weight… As for Mosley he was basically the SAME age as Martinez is now so whats the point? Shane was coming off one of the best wins of his career and Mayweather made a fool of him….The fact that he is unstoppable at WW does not mean a guy has to keep climbing till the scale accomplishes what his opponents cannot….

Posted September 29, 2012 9:57 am

I don’t think Marvin Hagle was a 6 feet tall, so this 5″10 makes you small at the weight is bogus….. EVERYONE wants to fight Floyd Mayweather so whats new? For the record James Toney is NOT 6 feet tall and neither is RJJ, Martinez has people fooled and the only reason he is trying to sell this NOW is for the Mayweather paycheck… A few years ago Dibella was saying how Martinez would have to kill himself to make 154 again, my my what short memories and agendas people have….Martinez is Ring Champion at 160, why are we discussing him at 154 when he has not campaigned there in years??

Can mayweather do nothing wrong? He proclaims himself GOAT, but he can pick and choose who to fight? can anybody explain why ortiz, an old mosley or a little marquez is more diserving than martinez? $$$$$ is the only answer…. That doesnt make you the baddest p4p in the world….it makes you the most high priced clown in the land….. Martinez is small for a MW…. How we forget that RJJ fought there….BHOP was there for ages… James toney & thomas hearns. + pavlik & jermaine taylor. All are over 6’1. Where martinez is 5’10….. His real fight weight is 154… So wanting to fight floyd should not be crazy….its only crazy to those that can’t stand to think about floyd losing…..it can happen, if he really takes a challenge…. MW is the last frontier…. It was a weight of prestige….

Guys swear that EVERYONE gets older and slower but Floyd Mayweather who is 35 years old and standing more flat footed than ever….IT does not matter because his skills and defense bail him out EVERYTIME and hopefully he will send most of your to your graves NEVER having seen him lost…. Undefeated 5 weight classes, not SRL, SRR, HEARNS nor Hagler can make that boast…

Dude what are you talking about try watching the fight or maybe the interview with Cotto after the bout where his head was contused and swollen, he discusses how hard it was to land cleanly on Mayweather… Getting excited because a HOF fighter was able to land a few shots??? Chavez found Martinez what do you think that Floyd will do?? Sergio has never faced a guy with Floyds speed and ability…. Mayweather has faced guys who are faster than Martinez….. Reality is that Sergio is a guy who is aging out of the game and needs a payday…

Posted September 29, 2012 3:00 am

If Floyd fights Martinez at 150 or 154 and beats him you guys will claim “Martinez was drained” and he was old…. Get real this fight is a lose/lose for Mayweather no matter what….Sergio is a “natural Jr MW” BUT somehow he accidently became the unified MW Champion of the world??? He is recognized by Ring Mag as MW Champion but he is really dying to get back to 154??? C’mon these arguments are weak just say you want Mayweather to fight a MW….

Mayweather is 2 years younger than Martinez what about his OWN aging process is he immune? or is he just so damn good that we cannot account for the ravages of time upon his skills and reflexes…. AGAIN you guys show just how amazing Mayweather is as an athlete… He is around the same age or older but he is letting everyone else deteriorate while he magically does not get older?? Sillyness to say the least…

Y cant we watch Martinez vs Geale 4 all belts in the devision…we never c that these days in boxing? Golovkin vs Sergio. I guareentee u Geale wont b backing down he will fight Golovkin anywhere…he has 2 or the WBC is stripping him which I think is very harsh. Nope. a ring-doctor hired by Arum to stop the fight the moment Cotto began to predictably fade did. otherwise, we (including Cotto judging by the increasingly desperate expression on his face) were already anticipating another Margarito surge and Cotto kneel-down . . .

Tark, Holmes was Ali’s sparring partner before he became a professional. How could Ali duck his own sparring partner? Also Holmes was against fighting Ali. It was Ali who insisted the fight happen. And Holmes got his entire fighitng style from Ali. That’s like saying Mayweather is ducking Broner. Sorry, but the Klit’s will never be considered as great as of the Golden Era heavyweights. And Ali would’ve destoryed both Klit’s with ease. Time to comeback down to reality.

41 pro-bouts at 22 years old is NOT “slow” progress. in fact, you are unwittingly criticizing Canelo for starting his pro-career early (15), which is not a flaw but an advantage. like most things, mastery depends on mileage and Canelo has already covered a lot of ground.

Floyd isn’t 180lb like jr or fights at middleweight but jr middleweight please floyd hits like a powder puff compared to Martinez.Cotto had no problem tagging & making floyd bleed i’m sure Sergio will do far better.Margarito with plastered gloves against a prime/undefeated cotto? didn’t Floyd fight Margaritos left over? lol Floyd might out box Sergio here & there but no way is he going to dominate him 1-12 he didn’t vs castillo, oscar, cotto he won’t vs the #2 p4p fighter in the world.

If Cotto was able to tag him i am pretty sure Martinez will have no problem! Floyd isn’t getting any younger and his reflexes aren’t what they used to be(as we saw in the Cotto fight) so it will be a good fight!

Martinez should not go below 154 to fight Mayweather,he would be putting himself at a disadvantage. At 35years old,i am pretty sure Mayweather can make the weight easy.

Posted September 28, 2012 6:18 pm

Boxtradamus

Martinez is a GOOD Fighter but lets not get to excited about him beating a #0 P4P Fighter. Floyd is 1000 times more elusive than Chavez Jr. He’s 1000 times smarter TOO. The same thing that happened to Mosley when he faced Margarito and THEN Mayweather would be the same thing that happens to Martinez. Everyone will come HERE after the Fight and say that Floyd cherrypicked an OLD MAN. Martinez will RARELY even TOUCH Floyd in there….Floyd’s not DUMB enough to go back and forth with Martinez like he did with Cotto. He’s going to go back to using his Defensive WIZARDRY.

Posted September 28, 2012 6:14 pm

Eddie

Lets look closely at those fights you just mentioned. Cotto, first of all has 2 losses, and Floyd fought Cotto at

154 where Cotto has done absolutely nothing except beat Yuri Foreman. Cotto is also not the same fighter he was at 140, he’s older and slower and we don’t even know how good he is a154.

Ricky Hatton was all that and a bag of chips… at 140!!!! If you recall, Hatton had one other fight at 147 and he shouldn’t even have one that fight against Collazo at 147. And Collazo is a mediocre fighter who was knocking Ricky Hatton from pillar to post.

De La Hoya, please? Oscar was semi-retired at that point and was rarely fighting. Oscar was only fighting for money at that point and won several rounds against Mayweather.

Marquez? Ca mon, you remember Floyd coming in heavy on purpose to have a weight advantage on Marquez, and it was evident during the fight. Marquez looked like a lightweight going against welterweight.

I don’t think any of these wins are bad.

The only thing I am saying is that Mayweather could’ve fought Hatton or Tyzu for that matter at 140. By the way, Mayweather never beat the best guy at 140, nor as he beat the best at 147, and he really hasn’t beaten the best at 154.

So, all I am saying is that Mayweather is a very good fighter, but untill he fights someone in their prime (Manny, Alvarez, or Sergio), there will always be some criticism, and it is valid.

Posted September 28, 2012 6:13 pm

Boxtradamus

Also you can’t fault Floyd because he makes himself LOOK like the only A level Fighter out there. You’re supposed to PRAISE him for that.

Posted September 28, 2012 6:11 pm

“Skill is only truly tested when paired with someone of similar or close to skills”-FALSE. Your SKILLS are tested in every Fight and IF you have them you must pass the test or take the LOSS. IF SKILL was only tested when paired with someone of similar or close to SKILLS then Robinson should be undefeated then according to YOU. But he’s not because he got tested by LESSER Fighters and he FAILED.

Posted September 28, 2012 6:08 pm

Eddie

Mayweather was as skilled 10 years ago as he is today. And my point is about this thing you harp on about skill. That just because you’re more skillfull doesn’t mean you’re going to beat everyone. And Castillo was an example of that.

But honestly, I can talk to you because there is something wrong on how you compute logic.

I think Mayweather is a great fighter, but he is not without criticism, especially when it comes to level of competition.

But in your eyes Mayweather is the second coming of Christ, and I have no idea on how you can actually believe in the logical conclusion you came too, because your logic is ridiculous.

Another thing about Martinez is he lets his hands go and when u do u pay a price. He probably could lay back potshot and get hit less but he lays it on the line how could anyone knock him for that.

Terrible to watch is besides the point. I think Hopkins is one of the bost boring fighters Ive ever seen, but I’ll be the first to say that Hopkins is one of the best of this generation.

As far as making mistakes… it’s not bad for a guy who stepped in the ring at the age of 20!!

And how can he be overated, he beat the best 154 pounder and best 160 pounder and has only 1 legit loss in over 50 fights. There is nothing overrates about those numbers.

Posted September 28, 2012 6:00 pm

TARK

@Tony…. Miguel Cotto is a 3-Division World Champion who had only one loss. He was 31 and Floyd was 35 years old. Cotto is still fighting and whipping pretty good fighters, and still adding to his skills with his new trainer… Ricky Hatton was 43-0 and a 2-Division World Champion who was about 29 years old when he fought Floyd… Oscar De La Hoya was a 6-Division World Champion and much bigger than Floyd. At only 34 he wasn’t that old… Floyd fought in 5 weight classes winning 9 world championships without a defeat. Nobody else has accomplished this so I give him his due. When you ask Juan Manuel Marquez, “Who’s the greater fighter, Pacquiao or Mayweather?” He only has one answer.

What happened 10 years ago doesn’t even hold UP in a court of LAW. That tells you that the PRESENT is more important than the PAST. Right NOW Floyd is the most SKILLED Boxer on the planet. Castillo is but a particle of DUST. He has gone with the WIND while Floyd remains SUPREME. Castillo had a chance to show that he got robbed vs. Floyd but he got SPANKED in the Rematch. And then everyone else had a chance to SHOW that Castillo got robbed TOO but they ALL proceeded to get SPANKED like Castillo did or WORSE.

Posted September 28, 2012 5:51 pm

WHAT? Of course its relevant. Skill is only truly tested when paired with someone of similar or close to skills. Mayweather can beat all the B and C level fighters in the world but what does that prove. That is like saying that the MIAMI HEAT are the best because they beat the Raptors and Rockets. No, the MIAMI HEAT are the best because they beat the Celtics and Thunder.

How can you possibly insinuate that the level of competition doesn’t matter, and where was Mayweather’s skill when he fought Jose Luis Castillo.

For all the skill Mayweather has Castillo, the slower guys in every aspect beat Mayweather.

You talk crazy and non-logical things, brother.

PRIME and weight class is irrelevant. SKILLS is what’s relevant. Boxing is a Sport. Not a division. Floyd beat 3 of the Top 7 most SKILLED Boxers on the Planet in a ROW in the Boxing Ring which is all that matters. Josesito Lopez just showed Ortiz that Boxing is a Sport. NOT a division not too long ago. And SO did Bradley when he moved UP to Welter and beat Pacquiao.

@ArguingWithIdiots… Martinez isn’t sloppy and doesn’t make a lot of mistakes… He’s a skillful, speedy, and elusive southpaw with power in both hands.. How many world championship caliber fighters, who are 37 years old and have over 50 fights, have only 2 questionable losses?

Are you serious? Ali was done as a fighter when he fought Holmes and Spinks. Are you that dense, dude? Or did you fall and hit your head as a child.

Posted September 28, 2012 5:30 pm

Tony

You forget that Martinez beat a prime Paul Williams and that he beat Pavlik when Pavlik had 20 pounds on him. You forget that Martinez has on legitamate loss in over 50 fights. You also forget that Mayweather learned the craft of boxing because he picked up the sport when he was like 3 years old, Martinez FIRST went into a gym at age 20.

And this thing about skills, did you forget that a much less skilled Jose Luis Castillo gave Mayweather fits, and in the eyes of many beat Mayweather the first time around? If Mayweather is that skillfull and great, then fight Martinez, Alvarez, or Manny.

It’s that simple. Put any doubt to rest by fighting the best fighters in their prime and in their preferred weight class. JUST FIGHT THOSE FIGHTS.

Robinson also ducked a rematch with Ralph Jones.. You can duck a rematch even when you lose very badly—and you can try to make everyone think the loss was a fluke.. Jones was a nobody from nowhere, so his pleas fell on deaf ears in the days of Jim Norris and the National Boxing Club.

I’m still scratching my head as to why Martinez gets so much props. Don’t get me wrong I do think he’s a good fighter, who has found success by using his athletic ability as a great advantage. But really, he makes a lot of mistakes, he fights sloppy, and isn’t a technically great fighter… Mayweather should fight him, cause he’s easily a better fighter than Martinez, even if he is a lot smaller. Martinez has never beaten a fighter that has anything close to Mayweather’s skill.

Posted September 28, 2012 5:21 pm

Big George

Well who the hell did Pacman fight? Older ass ODLH weight drained and an Older ass Mosley and a Cotto still in recovery from a hand-plastered ass-whoopin. So, what are you saying?

Posted September 28, 2012 5:20 pm

varnish

To beat Mayweather, you need to hit him regularly. Martinez is fast, left-handed and unpredictable enough that he could do that. He would hurt Mayweather. But Mayweather won’t fight him unless he is really pressed for cash (which he appears to spend at an alarming rate). You need quickness to beat Mayweather – Calzaghe could have done it if he were in his weight class. Mayweather will get beaten when he finally moves up to middleweight because he is broke.

Posted September 28, 2012 5:20 pm

Big George

The problem with fighting Floyd is not risk for Floyd but the lack of PPV reward. If you nthink Floyd is scared of Martinez you’re nuts. Or maybe you think he’s scared of Pacman too. Huh!

Posted September 28, 2012 5:18 pm

Ali certainly ducked Larry Holmes… Ali cherry-picked Leon Stinks when Holmes was the best heavyweight on the planet ….. Sugar Ray Robinson certainly ducked Archie Moore. Since Ray couldn’t hold off light hitting Joey Maxim he wanted nothing to do with a Robinson vs Moore Super-Fight… I guess that’s because Moore whipped Maxim’s butt 3 times like he was his daddy … And don’t say Robinson was past his prime. Moore was older had had many more fights than Robinson — against much greater fighters than Robinson ever met.

Let them hate, so what if no everyone thinks we know nothing about boxing, or that making glorious accomplishments in beating the like of worn out Cotto, oldass De La Hoya and Mosley, mental case Ortiz, or all those other GREAT fighters like Gatti, Corley, and Mitchell. Mayweather is clearly the best. I don’t even think he’s human. I really think that only thing that can beat Mayweather is cryptonite.

Posted September 28, 2012 5:09 pm

The Best!

That fight would suck, two slapper counterpunchers. None of these guys really go for the K.O , although Martinez is more offensive minded than Mayweather this fight would be a bore, for sure a twelve round decision in Martinez favor.

Posted September 28, 2012 5:06 pm

SREDMOND

REM I am sure Ward would likely beat Mayweather at 168, so whats your point? Mayweather and Martinez are not in comprable classes and you ignore the history of this fighter to try and act like thier is real physical pairty between the two men….Mayweather started at 130 pounds, he is 35 years old and makes WW with ease and has never hit the scales at 154…. Sergio is a full blown MW, you wanna argue that Martinez is REALLY a 154 pounder when the more LOGICAL argument is that Mayweather is really a small 147 pounder…. As for Sergio beating Mayweather thats FAR from a foregone conclusion Martinez is FAR more hittable than Floyd hence him being almost knocked cold in the 12th round by a SLOW, relatively crude Chavez…. Martinez was on his game for 11 rounds and then he was on the canvas dazed and getting slapped in combination….. Mayweather does not possess Sergios flaws, Barker, Macklin and Chavez all tagged him…

You are right. SO what if these 9 out of 10 you talk about were paper champions, and that back in the 50’s
and 60’s there were less champions because there was ONLY 1 CHAMPION. That type of common sense or logic has no place in our assesment of great Mayweather is.

MAYWEATHER BEAT 9 out of the 10 champions. WOW. And these guys were Cotto, Ortiz, Baldomir, etc. HOLY SMOKES, talk about high level competition.

MAYWEATHER I LOVE YOU.

Hey, BOXTRADAMUS, I GOT HIS LEFT NUT, YOU WANT TO TAKE CARE OF THE RIGHT ONE?

I don’t agree with Boxtradumus. I don’t LOOK at could’ve, should’ve, or would’ve. I look at DID and DIDN’T. Floyd DID beat 9 CHAMPS in his last 10 Fights. Robinson never DID that. Floyd DID beat 3 of the Top 7 Fighters in the World in a ROW. Robinson never DID that. Robinson got SPANKED at 34 yrs old. Floyd never DID that. Floyd has already gone 43-0. Leonard and Robinson never DID that. Floyd is the GOAT.

How can anyone not see that every fighter in history is inferior to Mayweather. Mayweather just beat Cotto at 154!! Do you think Ray Leonard or Ray Robinson could’ve accomplished that awesome win? Cotto would’ve whooped Leonard and Robinson. Nuff said homie.

Funny coming from one of floyds biggest fan boys?Sergio isn’t my fav fighter nor do i hate floyd he invites criticism & were talking boxing so stop being a little sentimental girl.Floyd is a good boxer who manages his career carefully against guys he can make huge money off,in other words he’s hyped up to be something he’s not(The MJ of boxing some people actually believe that bs though lol).My problem is floyd fans praising floyd like he’s a untouchable god but make excuses on how Sergio too big when he’s really not.Sergio just fought a cruiserweight roy jones & the hbo cast even admitted that along with many other that is the reason jr did not weight in after fight he knew he had a huge unfair advantage.Sergio is not towering floyd,Floyds grown into his full body & says he’s outgrown 147lb if he’s go back down it could hurt him regardless of what his fans say so he’ll do what best for him & his health.Stop making excuses i want my fav fighters to fight the best & they continually do.Want Sergio/floyd 154lb,Ward 164lb ward said he’s rather move up to 175 after watching Sergio dominate a much bigger Solid chavez jr what will he do to floyd?Get out of here those garbage stats that mean nothing.Point is Sergio is a threat to floyd like Marquez is to pac & always will be .

YES, you are absolutely right. SO WHAT IF ROBINSON has like 150 more fights than Mayweather, or that he

went undefeated for like 80 fights or something like that. Or that Robinson was really a small welterweight

who move up to 160 and fight bigger men.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? MAYWEATHER BEAT ARTURO GATTI!!! That alone is greater than anything

Robinson accomplished.

I completely agree with the PRINCE. Mayweather defeated Gatti, Corley, Judah, Hatton, and Cotto. We all know

Thomas Hearns would’ve lost to all these guys. Roberto Duran couldn’t hang with Victor Ortiz.

HOW CAN ANYONE SAY THAT MAYWEATHER ISN’T THE BEST FIGHTER IN THE UNIVERSE WITH THESE

WINS!!!!

Mayweather could beat Sugar Ray Robinson and Leonard on the SAME NIGHT, blindfolded and drunk on some

syrup.

LOOK AT MAYWEATHER’S RECORD…Carlos BALDOMIR WAS A BEAST. JUDAH WAS AN ANIMAL.

Does he NOT know that Robinson LOST to Fighters who were LESSER than Floyd but Floyd has never LOST to anyone who is LESSER than Robinson??? Of course he doesn’t know this. The Prince

Floyd doesn’t have to fight anybody or prove anything. The man has already sealed his place among the ATG’s of boxing history. He could retire now and people would be speaking of his excellent all-around boxing skills and genius level IQ. When up-and-coming boxers get started in their careers, it’s Floyd Mayweather Jr. fights they watch. It’s no secret that many young boxers are copying off of Floyd Mayweather in the ring these days. Sounds like some haters can’t stand the possibility that Mayweather might retire undefeated. Well, here’s a shocking truth for you… even if Mayweather does lose at this point before retiring, it will be because age finally got to him, not because the other man was better. Floyd is now in his mid 30s going into his 40s. And it especially won’t matter if an oversize Martinez beats him. The only people that would be happy is the various biased haters. The only opponent that would get real credit is Manny Pacquaio.

Pavlik who was stomped by a 44 year old Hopkins? Paul Williams? a very difficult but flawed fighter…. Mayweather has beat HOFers ODH, Mosley, Cotto and Marquez in recent history… I know the excuses will rain but Floyd makes guys look terrible in a way that no one else can…. Just to be clear, I could care less about Floyd Mayweather. But I think greatness is not achieved by fighting Cotto at 154, Judah, Hatton at 147, or crazy Victor Ortiz.

Greatness is achieved by what Ray Leonard did against Duran, Hagler, Hearns, and etc. Leonard fought some

of the best in history in THEIR PRIME and in THEIR BEST WEIGHT CLASS. If you know about boxing, compare

the Resume of Leonard to that of Mayweather and you will laugh out loud when you see the distinction. There is

no comparison, Leaonard achieved greatness BY FIGHTING the best fights.

The most idiotic statement from here that I read

Posted September 28, 2012 2:02 pm

Tony

Skills can only be measured if you’re fighting other skilled fighters. And Mayweather has been fighting fighters who are not comfortable in their weight class, over th hill, and defective.

It’s like the Miami Heat playing college backetball teams. We all know the Heat has a talented roster, but if

they don’t test it againt the Thunder or Celtics, for instance, we really won’t know how great they are.

As far as SURELY taking a loss, where you SURELY that Maywather would defeat Jose Luis Castillo in their

first fight? Because in my opinion, and the opinion of many, Mayweather lost that fight.

Posted September 28, 2012 2:01 pm

Boxtradamus

The FACT is that SKILLS is more important than SIZE. Floyd has the most SKILLS on the planet. Unless Martinez can find a way to come in 20+ pounds BIGGER than Floyd then he will SURELY take a LOSS.

Posted September 28, 2012 1:57 pm

SREDMOND

Thats a ridiculous assertion, moving up class after class will result in losses for every man and the consensus GOAT SRR, NEVER fought in 5 divisions… Are you saying Mayweather is the GOAT? Where did I assert that? He is indeed one of the BEST to do it and being undefeated in 5 classes proves that…. I guess Hagler, Arguello, Hopkins, and other all suck because they sure as hell did not gain titles in weights?? Truth is you are creating a proprietary standard for Mayweather that you are not holding his competitors or contemporaries to…. Only SRL, Hearns, ODH, and Pac off the top of my head have titles in more classes, I guess all boxers subordinate to those accomplishements suck? When is Martinez going to compete at 175 in order to mimic Floyd?

Posted September 28, 2012 1:55 pm

YES. Floyd vs. Martinez is the most competitive Fight that can be made. I say MAKE it and let Floyd ride off into the sunset as the GOAT.

Just The FACTS

Oh and one more thing SRed, Floyd is the GOAT…this should be no hurdle for him.

Posted September 28, 2012 1:48 pm

Titopa

Martinez is a small middleweight, don’t act like he’s not. He’s a good/natural 154lber who moved up for an opportunity, and he’s remained at 160lbs because there was really no one at 154lbs to fight. Same with Floyd (only opposite), he’s fought at 154lbs twice, for the opportunity to make good money (his richest vs De La Hoya) and to fight for titles, he dropped (after Oscar) back down to 147 because there was nothing (financially & title wise) at 154. Martinez has stood at 160lbs for that reason, nothing at 154. But for a fight with Floyd, he’d drop, for a fight with Martinez, Floyd should go up. It sounds GOOD!!!

Posted September 28, 2012 1:48 pm

Just The FACTS

SRedjust keeps skipping over the fact that the best fight out there is May-Marty, quit shielding your boy over some stats from yesterday dude…we’re talking right now, TODAY! It is the fight the most fans want to see, Floyd has no dance partner anywhere near as intriguing as Sergio. Make the fight Floyd, like Boxy says its the skills not the weight. SRed you’re squirming son, we want May-Marty, same age, same weight, make it happen.

Posted September 28, 2012 1:47 pm

SREDMOND

Cotto was a small 154 pounder, and Mayweather took the risk to make a mega-event…. Martinez is NOT a 154 pound fighter anymore than Floyd is now a 140 pound fighter… 2 bouts at the weight spaced 5 years apart does not change your true weight class…. Besides why not see if Martinez wants to climb the scales for greatness???

Posted September 28, 2012 1:43 pm

Titopa

It has nothing to do with size, did you see how big Chavez looked during the fight? I mean, he looked like a cruiser weight (easily 185lbs +) and Martinez took him on. Martinez was naturally outweighed about 25lbs and Chavez was 3″ taller. Floyd is 3″ shorter than Martinez is only outweighed (naturally) by 10-15lbs. Martinez is a small middleweight and Floyd is a good 147lber who’s won two titles at 154. It can happen, they SHOULD make it happen.

Posted September 28, 2012 1:41 pm

SREDMOND

If Martinez is such a tiny MW then why did he weigh more than Chavez Jr at the weigh-in?? The argument for Sergio being a legit 160 pounder is FAR greater than Mayweather being a legit 154 pounder….. Floyd fought there twice spaced apart roughly 5 years…. Martinez has how many TKO’s as a MW?? I think Chavez might be the first guy to go the distance at the weight in 4 or 5 bouts….Mayweather is KNOWN to be a small WW he could make the weight even if there was same day weigh-in, vs Ortiz he was 149 pounds 30 days out from fight day….Give it up, chasing a check does not make Martinez quest anymore legit….

Posted September 28, 2012 1:40 pm

Titopa

Canelo isn’t on the P4P rankings. He’s merely a 154lbs titlist who’s “learning” and being brought along “slowly”. If he has been trying to work his way up the P4P rankings then he needs to do a FAR, FAR better job because he’s not even in the TOP 15.

Posted September 28, 2012 1:38 pm

Titopa

Floyd fought Hatton at 147 when Hatton looked less than stellar in “winning” his 147lb debut against Collazo. Floyd fought a 135lber Marquez at 147 and Sergio seeking a fight at 154 against Floyd is wrong? Really? C’mon! There’s not a huge difference in size. Floyd is only 3″ inches shorter than Martinez and is only naturally outweighed by 15lbs or so. Martinez just finished beating a guy who was 3″ taller than him and outweighed him (naturally) by 25lbs or so. It CAN happen and I’d love to see it. I still pick Floyd to eek out a SD.

Posted September 28, 2012 1:34 pm

Tony

Yes, at this point they have had better careers, however, Cotto is not the same fighter he was at 140 at 154. And Hatton was never any force at 147. If you remember correctly, Hatton should’ve lost a decision against a mediocre fighter at 147. So, it is WHEN and at WHAT weight class Mayweather fought these 2 fighters. It would’ve been more impressive if Mayweather fought Hatton at 140 (which he had te opportunity to fight) or Cotto at 140 or 147.

That’s like saying that Mayweather beat Roberto Duran 4 months ago, and claim that Duran had better careers than all the fighters he’s face.

Cotto and Hatton have had WAY better careers than Canelo. The Mexican may turn out to be better than them someday, but to date he hasn’t beaten anyone. He’s only 22, so time is on his side. That aside, I would love to see Mayweather end his career with fights versus Canelo, Manny, and Sergio (in no particular order).

Posted September 28, 2012 1:01 pm

Wasn’t Chavez bigger than Martinez. Didn’t Mayweather fight Cotto in his last fight at 154.

Don’t you know that Victor Ortiz on fight night comes in at the SAME weight as Martinez does on fight night

Floyd and Martinez come in decline. but Martinez is bigger than floyd and floyd is a smart guy. So… forget it Floyd against Martinez will never happen.

Do any of the Mayweather fans really believe that Ortiz, Hatton, Cotto, or any fight that Floyd has had in the past

8 years are better fighters than Manny, Canelo, or Martinez. If you do, then you’re delusional.

It’s funny how Mayweather fans don’t want to see Mayweather go to 154 to fight Martinez or Canelo, but it was

OK for Mayweather to fight Cotto IN HIS LASY FIGHT at 154. Seems a little hypocritical.

A defensive Floyd was awarded against ODLH. A defensive ODLH was punished against Trinidad. Floyd always fights with advantage. very smart. He consideres styles, momentums and sizes. he knows take care of himself how nobody.

SREDMOND – You saw how great Ward looked against Dawson right? I mean, how can you deny the level of superiority he displayed? But with that said, didn’t Dawson drop to 168lbs? A weight he hasn’t made in over 6 years? If Ward can look “fantastic” and fight his way up another notch in the P4P rankings by beating a naturally bigger man who dropped weight, why won’t Floyd take on Martinez? A guy who’s fought at 160lbs but spent the majority of his career at 154lbs, it’s not like Floyd’s never fought at 154 and it’s not like Martinez has been at 160 his entire career. Plus, weight (1 division difference) doesn’t win fights, skills does.

All the Mayweather fans praising Mayweather because he beat who… Hatton LOL, worn out Cotto, LOL, mental case Ortiz who just got beat by 140 pounder, LOL LOL, old ass-semi-retired De La Hoya, LOL LOL LOL. Who has Mayweather beat that makes him so great??

Do you think Ray Leonard, Duran, or Hearns would shy away from fighting Manny, Martinez, or Canelo?

Hell no, they would say when and where.

I’ll be the first to say that Mayweather has tremendous skill, but look real hard at who he’s fought the past 8 years and it is not impressive.

Floyd is still clearly above Martinez in the P4P rankings, and as much as like Martinez, he was also bested by Ward when Ward completely dismantled Dawson. But seeing as how Dawson had to drop in weight (he asked for it, he had to) in order to make the fight, I don’t see what’s wrong with Martinez willing to drop weight (passed 154 to 150) to make a fight with Floyd, I mean, what’s the difference, Martinez is willing to sacrifice to make the fight (Dawson did). I’m down with that. Otherwise, there are many enticing fights at 154 for Martinez, I’d love to see him tangle with Cotto or Canelo.

Way Way…………………too much is being made of thT 12TH ROUND!! On the strenght of a knockdown (Paul Williams did it, Kelly Pavlick did it) they assme that Julia can beat him. NOW….FOR ALL OF YOU KNOWLEDGEABLE BOXING FANS OT THERE………..According to Roach, Julia himself & Chavez Sr. all agree that Julia started too late and had he “started” earlier, he’d just walk through Martinez and K.O. him. WELL “Starting” or taking chances earlier opens him up earlier and I have a hunch Martinez’s people will be looking for that SOOOOOO I predict around round 5 or 6 Julia goes ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ !!

Mayweather hasn’t fought a legitamate threat in years. That’s the truth homie. He now has 3 big threats; Martinez, Manny, and Canelo. Mayweather has fooled the world by fighting smaller figters (Marquez, Hatton), shot fighters (De La Hoya, Judah, Baldomir, Mosley, etc) and mental cases (Ortiz). Manny, Martinez, and Canelo are in their prime and in their best weight class. If Mayweather don’t fight these guys he will live up to the Fraudweather.

3G made a mistake by not being in Las Vegas and getting right up into the ring to challenge Martinez after he beat Chavez.. You have to be extremely vocal and aggressive in this game, like David Haye.. Sergio is going to ignore 3G and keep trying to get Canelo, Cotto, or Floyd …. Sergio will have the same luck with them that Golovkin is having with him.

What other fighter would Martinez come down to 150 pounds for besides Mayweather and Pacquiao? The guy wants to make money which is understandable but this idea that he is pursuing GREATNESS by chasing GREAT fighters who really fight 2 weight classes beneath him is bogus to say the least…..Floyd having 2 fights at 154 since 2007 hardly makes him a 154 pounder….. Its not as if he moved up because he could not make 147, to the contrary he cannot effectively make 154 he comes in at 151 or less the dude is a WW who took a fight at 154…. Martinez is a MW of several years and many bouts….

Sergio isn’t big enough in terms of PPV draw. Floyd said that he wants to match him up with his fighter Andre Dirrell. That’s where Serge is at draw wise. If Sergio was a better PPV dance partner the Money vs Martinez fight would be made. Weight is a non issue.. Cause I guarantee you Money would fight JCC Jr…

The only fight that Floyd needs to make is with Manny Pacquiao just to get this stale dated discussion OVER with…. Martinez just fought a guy who comes in at Cruiser, he could move up if he wanted to take the risk…. Floyd did that from 130-154… He is putting he finishing touches on an ATG career, Martinez is still proving himself at the highest level.

What are you talking about Canelo Alvarez has a HIGHER profile and is already making more money than Sergio Martinez in boxing my friend….Alvarez made 2 million fighting on an undercard against washed up Shane Mosley, Sergio Martinez made 1.4 million base fighting against Chavez Jr because Sergio was the B side opponent….ANY fight with Floyd Mayweather is going to generate 1 million buys but the truth is you are putting the onus on Mayweather to keep climbing the scale yet you seem to want to grant Martinez amnesty from doing the same…. He is the unifed MW Champion yet you are cumming all over yourself wanted to see him face a guy who has fought OVER 90% of his career 147 and below….. Where is the hard on to see Martinez step up to 168? I respect him defending his belt at MW but that also entitles Mayweather to face appropriately sized opponents…. Mayweather does not have to prove he can fight bigger guys, he just did that facing Miguel Cotto…..Seriously you sound like a hypocrite supporting a MW who was trying to get Mayweather and Pacquiao in the ring… I understand his need for money he is OLD, but he will have to make it the HARD way by taking on additional risk against bigger guys…

Floyds career has spanned 24 pounds and Titos travelled what 13 pounds?? How exactly is Trinidad the standard by which Floyds career needs to be judged as far as ascent up the scales…And please don’t tell me about him fighting Roy Jones at 170 years after he was done as an elite fighter….. You guys know NADA about boxing….

the only thing proven by the Hopkins v. Cheato TriniDud matchup was Cheato’s latent mediocrity. without his illegal handwraps, Cheato became nothing but a helpless punching bag. afterwards, v. Winky, he became a helpless bobblehead in a Sammy Davis Jr. hairpiece. after that, a fat and helpless bum that an already faded Jones Jr. dismissed with his patented rooster scratches while Cheato sat staggering on the canvas (lol). combined with Three-Pouty-Unavenged-Post-Loss Retirements, TriniDud was exposed as the most notorious chumpion in PR boxing history, which has become history, Period.

SREDMOND – this is exactly what is wrong with Boxing Today.. it’s all about who makes the most Money and who has the most Fanbase.. not about the Best fighting the Best like in the 80’s.. When Tito Trinidad decided to move up in weight and take on much Bigger Prime Bernard Hopkins it was a sign of Greatness.. Hopkins at that time was lost in that dumpster called Friday Night Fights.. not a big PPV anything..and Tito Trinidad could’ve easily fought other guys his size at his weight class and still make huge PPV money but he chose to take on the bigger Challenge to take on the Best even if Hopkins at the time was a financial pandhandler… It’s what Great Champions and Fighters do.. not this Prima Donna show we see today….

No he couldn’t, we saw Sergio with a BIG M/W, and he dominated. He IS arguably #2-3 on the P4P list, lay people know Martinez, they don’t know Canelo…yet. Sergio has been PPV and done well, Canelo not so much. STOP defending Floyd for not making the 2nd best fight out there, we already KNOW he won’t sign for the #1 fight, we’ve seen him throw down every excuse there is not to mix with Pac. Make the best fight available now! SRed, you’re a smart fan but you’re just a fanboy here that don’t want your boy havin’ a tough fight that the public WILL buy. Martinez vs Mayweather is the #1 fight that CAN be made….who else agrees?

Posted September 28, 2012 11:11 am

If Martinez is this massive PPV draw then why was he paid half of what his opponent received? Because Chavez Mexican fanbase is FAR large than Martinez fanbase and everyone knows it…. These guys did around 500k buys together and it was Sergios FIRST PPV card, Mayweather has been in the BIGGEST fight in history and several of the biggest NON HW bouts in history, Cotto, Mosley, Ortiz, ODH…… 1.5 mill, 1.4mil, 1.25mill, and 2.4 mill…. Martinez is a financial pandhandler by comparison…. Floyd could do more business with Canelo Alvarez FYI!

Posted September 28, 2012 10:53 am

SREDMOND

Just the Facts, the defense is simple Floyd Mayweather is NOT a MW, he has never even weighed in at 154 during his entire career… Sergio Martinez could make a pretty huge fight with Andre Ward if he chose to do so or even Carl Froch but he passes because he feels the weight will disadvantage him….Your discussion about PPV buys betrays how inept your argument is, Floyd Mayweather could do 1.25 million buys facing Mickey Mouse at this point he did that with Victor Ortiz so how is this any different than normal for Mayweather in that regard?? He is coming off facing Cotto for 1.5million buys this is just a day at the office for boxings biggest attraction… We all KNOW that Martinez needs Mayweather to get a payday in excess of 5 million dollars but again whats new about that?? Any assertion that Floyd needs Sergio for money or legacy just shows you really don’t know much about the game…..

Cotto had the opportunity to directly take Canelo’s place on the P4P rankings but he preferred to remain on “vacation” and continue his gatekeeper duties v. Trout for a much smaller payday. i guess that’s why he’s no longer considered a current P4P fighter.

Yeah, I’m completely baffled by Martinez calling out Mayweather. He just too goddamn big to be calling out an obviously smaller fighter. PBF’s fights at 154 were carefully calculated excursions into a weight class where he clearly did not belong. I feel for Martinez – he can’t get a big money fight at 160 and there is too much firepower for him to face at 168, so he’s stuck trying to pick a fight at 150 or so. I don’t see it being a good fight – Martinez would be scrawny and PBF would almost assuredly win, probably beating him up pretty badly. I guess that he would get paid but it would be a shame to see him cash out that way.

Posted September 28, 2012 10:21 am

Just The FACTS

Add SRed to the list of defenders of Floyds actions to avoid the biggest fights available, simple fact is right now Floyd vs Sergio is the biggest PPV fight out there minus FM-Pac, a fight that has proven to be impossible to make. Sergio makes ’54 and Floyd makes somewhere close to ’54, its WAY more attractive than any other fight you can name and a guaranteed 1.25 mill buys. Once again the defenders of Floyd will try to give him a pass, bottom line is name a more attractive makeable bout. Can’t do it can ya’…

SREDMOND

This is a TIRED rant on Martinez part the world wants to see Mayweather/Pacquiao if Sergio Martinez is in the drivers seat then why did he receive HALF of what Chavez did as his purse?? Reality is that whenever guys move weight divisions there is CONTROVERSY….. Some wanted to give Dawson a pass for getting knocked out at 168, what will they say if Mayweather dances circles around Martinez at 154?? Sergio is a fast fighter but that is magnified by him facing relatively SLOW fighters Chavez Jr who despite his bulk is slower than Andy Lee….He is not going to have the same success finding Floyd Mayweather who’s defense is one of the BEST in the history of boxing….. Reality is that guys are desperate to find a way to solve the Mayweather riddle and Martinez is the latest antidote to the haters rants…If you keep moving up the scale eventually you WILL lose, this is why Martinez is so reluctant to fight at 168 but somehow believes that others have to face him as a bigger fighter because he needs a purse? I respect the win over Chavez and the heart he showed but Floyd Mayweather is not the appropriate answer for what ails Martinez….

Posted September 28, 2012 10:13 am

SREDMOND

Guys trying to position Sergio Martinez above Floyd Mayweather are clowns…. Sergio is a terrific fight with a Champions heart but he is ALSO a guy that was just financially subordinate to Julio Caesar Chavez Jr in a bout… Mayweather is the ONLY 5 division Champion that has remained undefeated… ODH, Hearns, Leonard, Pacquiao, and Jones ALL absorbed losses before they could move thru 5 weight classes….Mayweather is the Alpha Dog of boxing he is by far the biggest man in the sport, the GREAT Manny Pacquiao just bent over and conceded an additional 10% on a purse that might be in the neighborhood of 80-100 mill…. Whos the man??? Mayweather could retire right now as an undefeated ATG, Martinez would be up for discussion as a HOFER and who knows if he would make first ballot…. Martinez is the Unifed MW Champion and if he wants to prove he is transcendent then why not absorb additional risk and move up the scale…. Because chasing one of the smaller 147 pounders in boxing is not gonna fly when the smoke clears….

Posted September 28, 2012 9:51 am

I agree 100% he chasing the money… any real boxing Fan knows that Floyd has never looked good at 154 because its not his natural weight… He should just forget about Floyd…Mayweather just needs to get his ass in the ring with Pacquiao and then call it a day.

Martinez keeps singing about how he makes 154 with ease yet he has NOT fought there in YEARS?? He has about 4 times as many fights at 160 as Floyd Mayweather has at 154….If we are to argue that Martinez is a 154 pounder on the strength of NOT having fought there in YEARS and something like 6 or so fights then isn’t there an even stronger argument that Mayweather who has NEVER hit the scales at 154 is a WW?? He weighs 150 come fight night at the most….Martinez is making a money grab but chasing smaller boxers is simply not a good look….If he comes in the ring at 150 EVERYONE will say he was drained

Floyd fights at 147lbs, he’s only fought at 154lbs twice in his career ODH/Cotto and both times he weighed in at a low 151lbs, he any gain more than that, Cotto was 162, Oscar was 164. Martinez doesn’t fight at 154 he fights at 160, so that’s not 6lbs, that’s 13lbs, if fighters fight at 154 and walk in the ring at 162, what do you think a 160lb fighter walks in at? Floyd would be stupid to take this fight jus to please the people who are dying to see him lose, next they’ll say he should fight Andre ward. People forget Floyd began his career at 119lbs. Smh

Yes and the kicker is Floyd only fought Cotto at a catchweight of 145lbs when Cotto struggled to make 147lbs in his two previous fights, and Pacquiao fought Cotto at 154lbs. Just imagine what Pacquiao would do to Martinez, I think he would literally kill him with his left. Just remember Paquiao did win his last 5 fights by brutal KO. And also Pacquiao does so well against counter punchers, just look at the 3 fight with Marquez, he ran over him everytime. So just imagine what Paquiao would do to Floyd he is also a counter puncher except he’s youger, faster, bigger and stronger than Marquez so Paquiao would beat Floys even easier than he beats Marquez.

Hear Hear, whilst I give Sergio the credit of being the man at middle that is different from being unified and I think Geale is a real sleeper in world boxing and is better than he seems. As for GGG he is a really dangerous fighter and reminds me of a MW Kostya not that fast but super accurate, technically correct and stupidly heavy hands, if Sergio wants Floyd who can blame him but as a middleweight champ he should fight the other top MW’s or vacate.

Posted September 28, 2012 8:01 am

No it doesn’t. Sergio actually competed at 154 and did well there. He has no history of fighting above middleweight. Sergio would be a tiny Supermiddleweight where as he would be only a little bit above average foe a junior middle. Fighting. Ward would stop Martinez. Super middle is a HUGE gap in size. Also, Mayweather will bring Martinez a bigger payday. It is also a fight that I think Martinez would win. Possibly by KO. Sergio is naturally a bigger stronger man than Floyd, then you add in the fact that the speed of Martinez, (speed that nearly matches Floyd’s) and things get real interesting.

Martinez and Ward makes better sense weight wise, but Martinez wants that big paycheck and he can only get it by fighting Floyd Mayweather in his mind. Too bad Floyd would likely not take the fight and I don’t blame him. In fact, I think Floyd is pretty much retired now. He’s just not saying it yet. Floyd claims he don’t take catchweight fights, which means he would have to go up to 160 to fight Martinez. Floyd is great, but even I don’t see him beating Martinez at 160. At 150, however, Martinez would get dominated.

The drawback in this fight is that it would be a very tactical fight a chess match. Only after 7-8 rounds would things open up. No way in hell there’s a KO in this fight. Floyd can keep Martinez honest with his precision punches, Martinez can hurt Floyd but Floyd is too elusive. If Williams can tag Martinez then Floyd can too. I laugh when people exaggerate Sergio’s speed when he fights tomato cans like Chavez and start using that as a measuring stick. Martinez would be facing not only the faster boxer but a smarter one than him at that. Which would be frustrating for him with his gloves by his hips a big no no against a master boxer.

Mayweather will never fight Sergio!!! He to scared and knows it’s to risky. He wont even fight pacquiao. That alone tells u something. Coming up with all types of excuses! We all know Mayweather picks easy fights with great undercard matches. Sergio said he is willing to give majority of the money to Mayweather and at 150lb. Mayweather shouldn’t have a problem with the weight cause his last fight with COTTO was at 154. Mayweather needs to put his money where his mouth is and fight the best out there to be considered POUND 4 POUND BEST!! Mayweather is washed up and should retire as an undefeated scared boxer, who only fights for himself and doesn’t care what the people want like he always says he does!!!!

Floyd mayweather will never fight Sergio Martinez because he knows that Sergio will whoop his ass and he don’t want to loose and he don’t want a light skined man to whoop him he is not a true champion because a true champion will fight anybody that challenges them so Floyd can keep running like a chicken and maybe one day he might grow a set of balls and fight Sergio

Because Martinez is a good athlete, and the bigger fighter, he would stand a good chance of of out pointing Mayweather at 160. At 154 and below, Martinez’s chances drop off drastically. This is a fight Mayweather should go after, since it’s really a no lose situation, imo.

good point that i don’t really have an answer for(?). however, we do know that Floyd has never weighed above 152lbs for any fight and neither of his 154lb fights were particularly impressive. he barely defeated DLH by one point and Cotto has no real business at 154lbs either, which is why he was a fairly routine “W” for Floyd. anyway, Martinez either satisifes himself with his middleweight supremacy or targets the next crop of bigger fighters with his P4P skills. after all, if it’s paydays he wants, not even a matchup v. Floyd would be more highly-anticipated than matchups v. Ward, Kessler, Bute, or Froch at 168lbs.

I think what would be good for boxing is Sergio to fight Daniel Geale from Australia to unify the division (which I actually think would be a great fight, Geale has got a great engine on him). On the night of the fight put Golovkin vs a top contender. Winner of the belts fights Golovkin. One champion against the top contender in the division, just like the old days. After that you can talk about super fights with Ward, Mayweather or whoever.

I like the fact that Floyd & ward fans are quick criticizers of Sergio because they obviously feel threatened.Talking about how if he wants floyd he needs to move down to 150 & if he wants ward he needs to move up to a ridiculous 168lb.At the same time floyd bashes pac for draining cotto among other fighters he does the same to a 38 yr old 135lb Marquez & now Sergio. As for ward people want the natural 154lb up not just move up 1 division but two!Why does canelo, broner get praised for fighting 2-3 divisions smaller not threat men but Sergio gets criticized for fighting guys 15-20lbs bigger than him?Ignorant fools.

Had to be a Chavez jr fan !!

What a coward!!!!! He is even worst than Pacquiao…There are Pirog and Golovkin in his division, Balerina Martinez is feigning not to see them….calling fighters 2 classes below, when he is scared to death to any SMW!!!!

Not an expert here, just a boxing fan, Your comment makes me wonder why Floyd didnt want to make 144lbs when he fought Marquez. I guess paying a fine was easier than making 144 lbs.

I would love to see it, but realistically it will not happen. Mayweather would only fight Sexy, if it was at about 150. He has ducked little Manny for years. I think the best thing for Sergio below 160 is Canelo after a few more wins.

The Real American Oak

Just like Roid Floyd needs to quit calling out Pacs recyles. Floyd is a puss and a coward.

Posted September 27, 2012 11:18 pm

UJelly?

Gotta agree there. Mayweather fought at 154 twice, but really had no business there in terms of his body size. Based on his walking weight, the guy could probably still make 135.
I’d be interested in a Mayweather/Martinez fight but I don’t see the point. Either Mayweather is too small, or Martinez will be weight drained… it proves nothing. It’s the same reason Pacquiqo never fought a real 154 pounder. He’s just not big enough.

The Real American Oak

Chavez looked like Jennifer Lopez. You are a certifiable moron.

Posted September 27, 2012 11:13 pm

The Real American Oak

u are high. You ever actually watch any of these fighters?

Posted September 27, 2012 11:11 pm

Miles

Of course he does. He would outway him by 20 pounds, and would make at least twice as much money as he made his entire career (prior to the Chavez fight). I want a fight with Mayweather also, mind you, I would outway him by 100 pounds (in muscle mass he would probably outway me by 30 pounds), but I’ll happily get my ass kicked for several million dollars.

Martinez was castrated by a Margarito withOUT Capetillo in his corner. that “W” was as legit as Floyd’s #1 P4P ranking.

Posted September 27, 2012 11:09 pm

te tumbo

C’monnn?!? Floyd should be fighting at 140lbs and can’t even make 154lbs. considering how bitterly opposed most of you Morons are to Canelo or Junior fighting “smaller” opponents, this is a prime example of your double-standard Hatred. otherwise, Martinez should be targeting Ward, Kessler, Bute, or Froch IF he truly believes he’s swept 160lbs of credible comp. in any case, Floyd would win or lose a boring UD that would do NOTHING to clarify the rankings in ANY weight-class. is it any wonder why i consider a solid 90% of ESB posters and “experts” to be Utter Imbeciles?

No contest, he steam rolls Mayweather. Ga Y weather could not handle the pressure AT ALL.

Thank you, my friend!! Can’t wait to read your next contribution, brother!! Love you, man!!

Really

Another Floydiot Really bro Really its a clear mismatch Martinez would smash on Floyd just open your eyes

Posted September 27, 2012 10:56 pm

Really

Woa you sir are a certified moron. Why don’t you go and watch UFC since you know nothing of boxing.

Posted September 27, 2012 10:51 pm

Really

Easy fight for Martinez. Floyd will be lucky to get to the 9th

Posted September 27, 2012 10:48 pm

Marc

Great article & spot on points all around. Why wait for Pacquiao. Maravilla v Money would be a smash. Good job as always, Herron!

Posted September 27, 2012 10:45 pm

WTF???

OverRated? I think you’re confusing him with Chavez Chicken Jr. or Canelo… LOL

Pain

Sergio is the most overrated fighter today. He has no chin for one.

Posted September 27, 2012 10:36 pm

Peej

Floyd never struggled with Cotto. He won almost every round. Wouldn’t call that struggling. Cotto hit PAC more times in 10 then he did against Floyd in 12. Floyd got a bloody nose PAC got a busted ear drum

Posted September 27, 2012 10:13 pm

Pete R

Sergio has come into his own later then most fighters. Along the way he has lost a number of fights, some of which are questionable. Yet the losses did not stop him from achieving his goal. He may very well lose again, the major difference is that he does not cherry pick opponents to preserve the sacred “0”, no losses.

Posted September 27, 2012 9:56 pm

Its Me, Ernie

Ward will only fight at exactly 168, in Oakland and any other advantage he can contrive.

Posted September 27, 2012 9:56 pm

Ricco

Mayweather will never fight Martinez!! It’s a mismatch really. Floyd struggled with cotto whos was wiped out by Pacquiao. Floyd knows Sergio is too much risk, and would ultimately beat him soundly…by kock out. Pacquiao, while being smaller than mayweather brings more actual fire power into the ring. he’s a more explosive puncher than Mayweather, he’s tougher, and more willing to step in and take chances. Martinez size is an advantage over both Mayweather and Pacqiauo, but Pacman can potential knock martinez out…Mayweather never could do something like that even though he has size on Pacquiao.

Posted September 27, 2012 9:42 pm

Juggernaut

Floyd would not dare taking the fighter.

Posted September 27, 2012 9:29 pm

Pain

Pac is too small. He had reached his limit in weight. His frame cannot handle 150 yet alone 154. He isn’t afraid of Fight Beggar Martinez. He knows he will be critisized again if he fights him in a catchweight. It’s Pac-DLH over again. C’mon, we all know what happened there. Sergio will be a zombie and Pac will utterly destroy him and send him to retirement. Goodbye big fights!

Posted September 27, 2012 9:28 pm

Pain

This arrogant cow keeps begging for big fights. Well, guess what Martinez, you ain’t getting any. You ain’t fighting the top 2 draws. Cotto and Canelo will destroy you. Then you will get old and retire.

Posted September 27, 2012 9:22 pm

Mj

I don’t think you become p4p by beating Floyd, you have to do what he’s done. Eventually al fighters lose ala Roy Jones but it didn’t make Tarver p4p. Become champ in several weight devisions including guys bigger than you and break some pay per view buy records that’s when p4p comes in play.

Boxtradamus

Unless there’s a 20 + pound difference then SKILLS is the most important factor in Boxing. And we just SAW that in Martinez vs. Pavlik and Chavez Jr. and we also SAW that in Ward vs. Dawson and Floyd vs. Ortiz.

Posted September 27, 2012 9:14 pm

The Kingslayer

If that was a lucky shot then why was Martinez’s face a bloody mess before it ?

Posted September 27, 2012 9:08 pm

The Kingslayer

I would rather see Martinez vs. Ward at 164lbs.

Posted September 27, 2012 9:07 pm

Just Facts

I agree with you statement in full. However Ward just stated over the weekend that Sergio and him are too far apart in weight because Ward plans on moving up to 175lbs very soon.

Posted September 27, 2012 9:00 pm

Boxtradamus

He ultimately wants to take a LOSS then….and the payday that will go along WITH it. GOOD for him. He’s paid his dues. let him take his SCHOOLING like a MAN.

Posted September 27, 2012 8:58 pm

Dino

Sergio did not have to slug with Chavez in the last round, he got caught with a lucky shot. He would dominate again, leave a rematch alone and move on.

Posted September 27, 2012 8:52 pm

TARK

When Pacquiao was told, “Sergio Martinez said he would come down to 150 for fight you.. Are you interested?” … Manny smiled and said, “Well….. He’s a great fighter, but I dont think super welterweight is a division I want to fight in anymore.. I fought just to get that title. I won’t take any more fights over 147.”

Posted September 27, 2012 8:50 pm

Joseph Herron

Peej, Sergio was the WBC Junior Middleweight Champion before Canelo Alvarez won the vacant belt. So technically, he should have a legitmate case for fighting Canelo at 154…Sergio’s natural weight division.

Posted September 27, 2012 8:47 pm

TARK

I don’t see this fight happening… It’s like Sugar Ray Robinson fighting Joey Maxim.. Big mistake.. Maxim was easy to hit and easy to outbox, but he was just too big, tough, and durable for Ray to hurt.. Robinson exhausted himself trying to keep Maxim off and collapsed to the canvas.. Martinez is about 5 X as fast as Maxim and much harder to hit with a clean shot. Sergio also carries a lot more punching power than the feather fisted Maxim … Martinez is a big NO-NO for Floyd.

Trikoy

Yes, JCC Junior was a small fighter when called him out and fought him!

Posted September 27, 2012 8:40 pm

Trikoy

It’s not happening! Floyd never had the cajones to fight a southpaw with speed, power, and amazing stamina… i.e. Pacquaio!!!

Posted September 27, 2012 8:38 pm

Peej

the man cannot make 154. He had to have a catchweight with Williams for 157 because he said he put on too much muscle when he made the move to 160. Even his promoter said he would have to cut off a limb to make 154. There are a couple names at 160 that have called him out and he is only fighting the lesser comp at 160. He should clear out that division and then take on a titlest or the champ at a catch weight from super middle. He can forget about the Floyd fight. He needs to stop calling out smaller fighters

Posted September 27, 2012 8:37 pm

Proud African

Floyd Mayweather will beat him silly at Welterweight or superwelterweight. I think Sergio should meet Andre Ward.
