SREDMOND, if you want to be taken seriously, you have to be sensible and show common sense. Macklin is a quality fighter with British and European belts to show for it. Only Golovkin has stopped him with ease. Jamie Moore beat Macklin in a war at light-middleweight and Sergio Martinez was taken to the late rounds by him. Macklin did enough to beat Sturm anywhere else but in the other man’s backyard. Gennady Golovkin is a very strong middleweight and these other belt-holders like Sturm and Quillin probably know this…

Its not much of an apology but I’ll take it

Posted December 9, 2013 5:48 pm

Junior, appreciate the correction on Macklin, you make a good point Golovkin is the 3rd guy to stop him thus diluting his win further…Solid work on your point THANKS!!

Posted December 9, 2013 5:45 pm

Yeah I am NOT buying this “Nobody wants to face me” story forever if the mans really this powerhouse in 3 weight classes tell him to move up and show us something?? You cannot build a real legacy claiming ” boo hoo everyones ducking me” so I am gonna fight bum after bum….Either get the job done or accept the fact that your resume is gonna get scoffed at…

Sredmond,
Call me when Golovkin starts facing World class competition ”
I’ve a better idea why don’t you call us when you find a World Class fighter willing to get into the ring with him.
Please don’t go into a ridiculous tirade, we’ve heard it all before.

Also you should apologise to jamie Moore

Posted December 9, 2013 3:57 pm

I like how you avoided the fact you were wrong about Martinez being the first to KO Macklin. I think you should issue a full public (ESB) apology for spreading wicked lies. Shame on you

Posted December 9, 2013 3:55 pm

SREDMOND

I disagree that Murray beat Martinez, he fought him close but could not close out the deal against the Champion…And Martinez certainly stopped Macklin which is just point of fact…

Posted December 9, 2013 2:56 pm

SREDMOND

Macklin had lost 2 out of 3 prior and Alcine is not a player at MW so let’s get real..Macklin was getting put down and he was done… He raised no objection when McGirt showed him compassion and stopped the beating he was taking…FACTS

Posted December 9, 2013 2:54 pm

Forgive the typos

Posted December 9, 2013 10:30 am

To add to that, Macklin was NOT on a losing streak when he faced Golovkin. Mack had just obliterated Alcine. Before that he was pulled out against martinez by old serial quitter Buddy mcgirt. And before that hewas flat out robbed against Sturm. Your as bas a twister as that moron Boxtradumb@ss

Posted December 9, 2013 10:27 am

junior

Sredmond I think adrian is confusing barker with murray. Murray certainly beat martinez. And YOU must be confusing martinez with Jamie moore because Moore knocked Macklin clean out and hospitalised him

Posted December 9, 2013 10:23 am

SREDMOND

How in the hell was Barker “better than Martinez”
Who knocked him out and was attacking the whole night? Barker was NOT leading the fight he was competing…. You are REALLY working hard to change history so that somehow Golovkin looks better for wins he NEVER got… Martinez was the FIRST guy to stop Macklin and Barker and deserves the cred that comes with that… Matthew Macklin was a START for GGG and now he is AGAIN going backwards as it pertains to his level of comp… You think defeating Macklin on a losing streak gets you in the HOF??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Posted December 9, 2013 10:06 am

SREDMOND

Nope Adrian I never said that, I mentioned Barker and Murray as legit contenders/opponents that would bring Golovkin some credible wins at 160 to be tops he would have to defeat Martinez who stopped Macklin, Barker and edged Murray…. Meanwhile Golovkin is beating up on recycled 154 pounders Ouma, Rosado Ishida and guys like Stevens… The mans resume is NOT cutting it and if it were you would not be trying to tie his name to Sturm beating Barker BOTH fighters Golovkin never bested because he is busy facing Bums…

Posted December 9, 2013 9:53 am

Adrian

Lol … Who is twisting here sredmond you not me, you did say in order ggg to be considered the top middleweight is if he beat barker who is a big middleweight and Martinez didn’t deserve the win against barker at all he got a gift decision that night , I am not saying barker is better then Martinez overall but he was better then Martinez that night and most said so ….
Oh and that rosado that you are mentioning he did beat kid chocolate but got robed but anyway no matter who ggg fought he is special because I know when I see one and it is not hard not to notice that on ggg unless you are a complete hater and no matter who he beat they will always say he beat no one ….

Posted December 9, 2013 6:27 am

Why are you so threatened by the mere mention of Golovkins name? Are you Sergio Martinez?

Posted December 9, 2013 5:26 am

SREDMOND

If you guys REALLY believed so much in Golovkin you would be comforts be comfortable with what he ACTUALLY accomplished as opposed to coming up with childish metrics like “most feared boxer” which is simply a dopey opinion… Fact is that Golovkin has NOT been mixing it up with the upper end of the MW division and his last 2 opponents have frankly come out of NOWHERE… Even many of his ardent supporters have called out this latest bout as “enough is enough”…

Posted December 9, 2013 4:56 am

SREDMOND

Tark “it does not matter who he fought it matters who is afraid of him” HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! That’s ridiculous because HE is the guy claiming EVERYONES afraid of him and last time I checked Wins and Losses are what matters… His WEAK resume has forced you and Adrian to try and sell the ridiculous..Like I said Golovkin is becoming the MW Deontay Wilder, knocking out a slew of C level fighters and not really stepping up.. No credit for wins you NEVER got..

Posted December 9, 2013 4:47 am

SREDMOND

Macklin lost to Sturm, you keep working hard to buff up Macklins resume… He has not fared well recently against his foes above the Alcine and Russ level… 3 of 5 and getting stopped 2x… Macklin was a solid win which I said before but NOTHING that warrants all this hype when combined with Ouma, Ishida, Rosado, Stevens and possibly this next no name fighter…I know that putting his resume under the microscope is painful and leaves you little to say especially as guys scoff at older fighters ACTUALLY beating World Champs… We have Martinez beating Barker and Macklin by KO/TKO FIRST and facing Murray and Chavez Jr in successive bouts yet we are supposed to be mesmerized by GGG stopping Stevens and possibly this next hand picked fighter?? Mackin lost to Sturm and GGG never beat Barker OR Sturm so your thesis is SUPER weak… Call me when Golovkin starts facing World Class Boxers…

Posted December 9, 2013 4:42 am

SREDMOND

Adrian, you can try and twist what I said but it’s to no avail when did I say “Macklin Stinks” he is the BEST guy that Golovkin beat that said he is NOT. A resume maker and the reality is that Golovkin never beat Barker who was FIRST stopped by Martinez, Golovkin had what 27 fights? Macklin does not salvage the overall quality of his resume the names NOT worth that much…

Darren sold his belt for seven figures, this fight was virtually scripted, the rematch was always going to be scrapped to allow Sturm to keep the belt he paid so much money for. Darren developed a convenient hip injury to make sure a rematch was out of the question. Nice work Fast Eddie, so many punters were fooled.

Posted December 9, 2013 4:09 am

TARK

Deontay Wilder is no Gennady Golovkin… Wilder isn’t a world champion with several title defenses to his credit..

It doesn’t matter who GGG fought.. I matters who is afraid of him.. It matters if he is the best middleweight in the world or not… Many top trainers say he is… and it matters what he will do when he finally gets the opportunity to fight Martinez and Quillin.

Peej “PEEJ

Didn’t expect that to happen that quickly. Sturm isn’t fighting anybody unless they come to Germany.

Sredmond – your barking about how ggg win over macklin was irelavant STINKS!!!
You were claiming barker was a “true” middleweight and the one good opponent for ggg but not macklin , so now this barker guy gets wiped by sturm and that “irrelevant ” macklin was robbed against the guy who beat your “true middleweight ” barker , so your hate obsessive over ggg is smelling and STINKS big time !!!

Posted December 9, 2013 2:36 am

SREDMOND

Trying to hang GGGs rep on Macklin is weak, it’s his best win but Martinez got him first, beat him up and stopped him… Macklin had lost 2 of 3 when Golovkin got him it was a solid win, that said Macklins not and never was a World Champ the rest of Golovkins resume is not beginning to cut it for a guy being sold in this manner… He is becoming the MW Deontay Wilder..

Posted December 8, 2013 9:24 pm

SREDMOND

Tark, I stand by the statement he amount of hype that surrounds Golovkin is NOT backed up by the quality if his resume which in my opinion “stinks” his next scheduled opponent is ANOTHER No Name fighter….Look at his resume vs Wards with roughly the same # of fights NO COMPARISON…GGG has been spoonfed weak opponents and it continues!!! See you in Monaco!

Posted December 8, 2013 9:17 pm

TARK

Sredmond…, “Golovkin’s resume stinks.” … NO…YOUR’S STINKS.

If you’re an undefeated world champion your resume doesn’t “stink”

Especially if the world ranked challengers who gave Sergio Martinez a hard time, and put Martinez on the deck, were obliterated in short order by by Golovkin.

Either so you are left where I always leave you, on your face…Golovkins resume stinks and his next opponent belongs on that same scrap heap…

Kid chocolate crap his lasr fight, as oppose 2 Sturm getting KTO by a guy with little KO power….The hip injury is unfortunate….Barker should have given Geale the rematch is what im saying. Sturm wouldnt beat about 10 guys getting around at middleweight….Getting Ko’d….getting beat with getting dropped than buying a title fight in which a guy gets a very unlucky injury is not what id call world champ worthy…..

Sam Soliman (43-11, 17 KOs) has finally been confirmed as the IBF number one contender for the world middleweight title. The IBF has ratified Soliman’s position as the number one contender following representations from Team Soliman to the IBF after US drug testing cleared Soliman from taking any illicit substances under IBF drug protocols, following his unanimous decision win against Germany’s Felix Sturm (37-4-2, 16 KOs) in Dusseldorf on February 1, 2013.

The IBF decision upholds the result of the Soliman/Sturm fight, despite Germany’s local boxing association, the Bund Deutscher Berufsboxwer (BDB), announcing a ban of nine months, claiming Soliman had taken a performance enhancing drug.

“My determination to become the IBF world middleweight champion is unwavering,” Soliman said. “I’m back on track, and it’s a good feeling. I’m only two fights away from tasting the glory. I’m training hard and am in the best form of my boxing career. Plans are well underway for my next fight. My management has received interest from three of the top five contenders in the middleweight division who want my number one spot.”

“The IBF’s decision acknowledges I did not knowingly take any substance that was performance enhancing, and that I did not take any substance that was listed as banned in the IBF bout agreement that I signed for the Sturm fight. I am extremely grateful and relieved with the result. In relation to the BDB it is an ongoing legal case and therefore I am unfortunately not in a position to comment about this,” Soliman concluded.

Mr Gav

The fact he was knocked down so easily just means that a rematch will just prove the sane thing. I am gutted I really wanted barker to win he deserves it with all the bad luck he has had and the fights we could of had here in britain . but sturm won fair and square and convince enough that we don’t need a rematch. I don’t know who next but I doubt GGG will be mentioned

Barker is a nice guy and a good fighter, but sturm was proper up for this fight and it looked like he was gonna win from the get go……however barker clearly injured his hip just before the second knockdown, it looked to me like he was crouching and got clipped, and his back leg jarred as he rocked back on it…….I t would have been stupid to carry on, and dangerous so a good call from tony Simms.
Barker I suspect will not use the injury as an excuse …he is too honest , and knows he was beaten fair and square.

He deserves the benefit of the doubt regarding where the hip injury is genuine or not. It’s not like he has a history of faking injuries or anything like Bernard Hopkins does. Tactically he was poor though. He was clearly overconfident, feeling super hyped what with him finally achieving his dream of becoming a world champion. He thinks he’s a bit of a banger now but he’s always been a boxer. He’s not sturdy or hard hitting enough to fight with that style IMO.

Anyway, a dislocated hip, a dislocated shoulder, how do you dislocate your hip, same thing I suppose, that’s bad luck.

Did no one else notice that both knockdowns were from punches to the back of the head?

Posted December 7, 2013 6:54 pm

Mr Gav

To rematch. Barker was out classed the bad hip was a result from sturm pounding barker to the canvas this says one thing. Barker has a glass jaw and dose not belong in the world elite, a rematch will just be another beating

Barker had surgeries on both of his hips. He very nearly had to retire because of the problems with them. I’ve never rated him that much as fighter but he’s a hell of a nice guy and he’s had some rotten luck throughout his career. People shouldn’t mock him he’s never done anything to warrant any abuse and he’s well liked by pretty much everyone involved in the British scene.

He also got beaten up pretty badly after he bravely intervened to try and break up an assault once too.

A judge has praised top middleweight boxer ‘Dazzling’ Darren Barker for intervening in a street brawl that left him unconscious.

The 28-year-old European and British and Commonwealth champion, unbeaten in 22 bouts, was left out for the count when he was set upon by a gang of thugs following an England World Cup football match.

Barker, from Barnet had been out with friends watching the England V Slovenia Group C clash in a Watford bar on Wednesday, June 23.

Following the 1- 0 win for Fabio Capello’s men Barker went to get something to eat at a Subway in the early hours when he saw two men setting upon another.

Maurice Aston, prosecuting, told St Albans Crown Court last Friday Barker bravely tried to break it up but the six foot fighter, who has 14 KOs, was soon surrounded by around ten men.

They knocked him to the floor and kicked him in the head, before fleeing leaving the 2002 Commonwealth gold medallist unconscious in the street.

Mr Aston said: “It is a case of gratuitous violence on the streets of Watford.

“Darren Barker, a professional boxer, had been out for the evening with friends.

“He had been drinking and watching the England game and about midnight he and a friend went to get something to eat from Subway in the High Street.

“They got their food and were eating it on a nearby bench when some trouble started behind them, with two men picking on a third.

“Mr Barker, feeling confident as a professional boxer intervened and told them to stop it.

“But all this did was make him a target and he ended up with a group of ten men around him.”

Mr Barker was left needing more than £1,000 of dental work and with a “nasty bruise” on the back of his head as well as “cuts and abrasions”, the court heard.

Mr Aston added: “There is so much trouble in that area and because of the football there was a high police presence and they saw the gang leaving an unconscious man on the ground.”

Judge John Plumstead announced Mr Barker, who was not in court, would receive a commendation and £250 as a “token” sum for his public-spirited actions.

Judge Plumstead said: “Mr Barker’s evening was ruined and he has been left with permanent dental problems because he tried to stop some trouble.

“He is a brave man. He behaved in a way most of us are not brave enough to do and suffered as a result.”

Three men involved in the incident pleaded guilty to affray, but denied playing any part in the assault.

Jake Simmons, 20, of Boundary Way, Watford and Iain Hughes, 22, also of Boundary Way, were given three-month curfews Friday to Saturday from 9pm to 4am.

Lloyd Osborne, 25, of St Johns Road, Watford, has previous convictions, and was given a 12-month community order as well as the curfew.

All three were ordered to pay Mr Barker £500 compensation and are banned from Watford town centre for three months from 10pm every night.

Whilst I never expected Sturm to get him out there like that it was easy to predict a Sturm victory. Sturm only lost his title on a very close decision. Barker fought the fight of his life against Geale who I thought fought the worst fight of his! When you look at Barkers past the only fights he’s really had against proper world class fighters in Martinez and Geale Barker he was hurt badley in both fights. Whilst Sturm has not looked great in recent fights with Macklin and Murray the fact is these fights were very close so you couldn’t write Sturm off as being finished. Then you had to factor in the fact that Barker was fighting away in Germany. People make light of home advantage but records show that 99% of time the home fighters gets the victory when fighters are considered relatively evenly matched going into the fight. Taking this in to consideration if I was Barker I wouldn’t miss the chance to bring him to the uk for a rematch because on another night as the home fighter with experience of how not to approach a fight with Sturm Barker is capable of making the relevant adjustments to pull of a win.

excuse excuse barker is just another bum strum saw the opportunity to get title without leaving germany

Rematch

He was not outclassed, his hip went, he was fighting before that, he was a sitting duck after the hip went, there is body shots you can take, but you can’t take a dislocated hip.

Wow!

Posted December 7, 2013 6:47 pm

Mr Gav

Bad hip or no bad hip barker was completely out classed. A rematch will mean he may get to round 3. He should fight Macklin. It has not been a good year for British boxers. Busy but not very successful

Posted December 7, 2013 6:46 pm

WHAT!?!

Oh I didn’t realise that trainers were ringside doctors. Dislocated hip BS, he was gone from the first left hook Sturm threw and was looking for a way out in Rnd 1. Barker was holding a title he didn’t deserve and is the #3 Middle in the UK let alone being a champ of the world.

Dislocated hip, hello, that’s why Barker could not fight.

Posted December 7, 2013 6:45 pm

Lenin

I hope the contract is waterproof. A rematch in London has to happen!

Posted December 7, 2013 6:45 pm

Rematch

That’s bad luck, that would of been a great fight.

Posted December 7, 2013 6:44 pm

Mr Gav

I said KO win for sturm didn’t think that early. And what agree with you no rematch needed

Posted December 7, 2013 6:44 pm

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

You guys clinging onto a rematch might be disappointed. Sturm’s crew know how to get around prospective opponents.

Posted December 7, 2013 6:44 pm

Rematch

Dislocated hip, confirmed by the trainers, that explains it.

Posted December 7, 2013 6:43 pm

Rematch

Hip injury apparently, so they saved him for the rematch by throwing in the towel, makes sense really.

Posted December 7, 2013 6:41 pm

Lenin

Barker was down twice in the round and stumbling through the ring. I doubt he would have made it to the end of the round, so it was maybe wise to protect him.

GGG would fight Sturm even in Germany, because he is sure he would knock Sturm out. That could happen after the rematch.

Posted December 7, 2013 6:41 pm

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

Well, quicker than I thought. Sturm was on from the start. Now will see how that rematch clause works out for him.

Posted December 7, 2013 6:39 pm

Rematch

Why did they throw in the towel, could of got through the round, was he injured, there is the rematch clause so they threw in the towel because of that, I don’t know.

Macho Gabacho

Rabbit punches.

Lenin

Sturm vs. Barker in London – make it happen!!! I heard they were talking about March or April ’14.

Posted December 7, 2013 6:38 pm

WHAT!?!

No need for a rematch. That was decisive. I never thought he beat Geale and still gave everything he had. KOéd by Sturm who isn’t a big hitter. I don’t buy the fake injury he tried either. Go back to the drawing board in the same class as Cleverly.

Posted December 7, 2013 6:37 pm

Lenin

The corner threw in the towel, so the ref had to stop the fight.

Posted December 7, 2013 6:37 pm

Watch Sturm’s people try and weasel their way out of the rematch now

Posted December 7, 2013 6:36 pm

Lenin

Sturm went into blitzkrieg mode and overwhelmed Barker. The ref stopped the fight in round 2.

Good start from Sturm. Ive got ba bet on him to win on points

Posted December 7, 2013 6:33 pm

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

Sturms left hook has found a home from the start and looks a touch quicker at the moment. Sturm 1-0.

GONZO OF NAZARETH

Someone will get stopped

Posted December 7, 2013 6:33 pm

Round 1: Good action, great pace! Round 1 to Sturm, but Barker is game.

Posted December 7, 2013 6:32 pm

Mr Gav

Sturm by UD non debateable . he is leagues above barker and has had vast world title fights compared to barkers 2. Sturm still has enough in the tank maybe be KO! On another note Mrs Barker would get it

Posted December 7, 2013 6:24 pm

Hol

Go on dazzle try and smash him out, don’t trust the cards

Posted December 7, 2013 6:19 pm

Barkers power isnt good enough at this level to KO anyone unfortunately

Posted December 7, 2013 6:02 pm

Marilyn13

Barker by KO or Sturm by decision.

Posted December 7, 2013 5:58 pm

junior

Depends how tight the contract is really

Posted December 7, 2013 5:45 pm

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

Contracts don’t mean too much these days. Do you think Sturm will rematch IF he wins? He managed to avoid GGG for 2 years.

Posted December 7, 2013 5:42 pm

junior

I say itl be very close with Sturm taking it in a questionable SD or UD. I made this prediction as soon as they made the rematch clause

Posted December 7, 2013 5:24 pm

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

So who wins? If Sturm has anything left in the tank I think he’ll get across the line. Should be a good even contest. Could be really hard to score. Sturm via SD.
