He could have smoked three weeks before and still showed up on the blood test. Eating is the best way to sober up — Chavez Jr.’s on-going weight problems may be due to the typical munchies once the weed effect starts to weaken. There shouldn’t be any fine too severe for weed — that should be a more personal choice than any commission or boxing ruling body. Chavez Jr. is still a young, up-coming boxer, so he still has lots of time to get himself straightened out and develop his craft. His loss to Martinez was never due to smoking weed but rather to his lack of sportsman discipline and lack of ring IQ. The best thing that happened to his boxing career was fighting Martinez. Now he KNOWS what a real, experienced, dedicated boxer looks like. I am sure that he learned more from Martinez than he will ever acknowledge.

Ahh this is so silly, a guy fights a man with his bloody fists until they are half dead and the crowds are screaming mad for it, and we flip out because he smoked weed!!

What is wrong with boxing is money is the God, it is not about sportmanship or interigy for tv companies, promoters and sanctioning bodies. The drug tests are in adequate to detect what drugs are being used and to deter the fraud boxers using them. The WBC president, Jose Suliaman should be booted out of office, he is a complete fool and offers nothing to the sport of boxing, but double talk and crap talk. Bob Arum should be given a 2 year suspension from promoting fights and a $5m fine for his comments recent on the use of marijuana.

Btw, NO PEDs. NO illegal handwrapping. ONE post-fight drug-test. combined with Sulaiman’s action that’s 4 Strikes you’re Waaay Out . . . (lol) . . .

Olympic-style blood testing at various intervals before the fight.. Well we all know Tumbo’s been an advocate for this type of testing for Manny Paquiao so I’m sure he’d want it for his Boy Chavez jr… I think Chavez jr. will not agree because he knows he’d never pass it… but we’ll see if he chickens out or not..

Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez Update
By Gabriel F. Cordero

WBC middleweight world champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez did not undergo surgery on his right knee Thursday as originally planned, confirming from Madrid, Spain through his official Twitter account that he is still investigating the extent of the injury and recovery time if there were to be an operation.

There are plans for Martinez to return in May 2013, possibly in a rematch against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Their first fight was hugely successful, producing 475,000 PPV buys, and the rematch could land at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas. One of the stipulations mentioned for that bout would be for Chavez Jr. to undergo Olympic-style blood testing at various intervals before the fight.

Could explain why the Nevada state Boxing commission has not come out with anything official yet.. they’re waiting for the results of those other tests..

Michael Vick’s dog-fighting had nothing to do with what he did on the field. Tyson bit Holyfield’s ear because Evander kept intentionally headbutting him. Now, ear-biting is not allowed in boxing, but neither is intentional headbutting. But the world made a bigger issue out of Tyson’s ear-biting than Holyfield’s headbutting because headbutting is fairly common in boxing. But if you don’t think intentional headbutting is dangerous and can cause serious injury, then you don’t know anything about boxing. Wait. It’s already clear that you don’t know anything about boxing.

LOL @ YOU Sal. You type in caps because your typing skills suck–you failed that class in 7th grade, right? And you use the word “retarded” because you gave up learning in 4th grade, right? I’ll say anything bad about anyone whenever I feel like it. I don’t know what bubble you grew up in but look around–it bursted a long time ago.

Godfather Sulaiman did what we all knew he’d do for his little Duggie Godson Chicken Jr. He’ll probably strip Martinez of his belt when Martinez can’t defend it due to recovering from his knee surgery and broken hand and give the Belt back to his little addorable Godson Chicken Jr… LOL.. WBC = We Be Criminals…

Skinny Steve….10grand isn’t the most money money any1 on this site has ever seen. And that isn’t the issue either. Chavez is disrespectful. Doesn’t train and on the pipes 4 the biggest fight of his career. It’s all excuses. Every1 on this site wishes they could have a shot at a tittle and the cash that comes with it. Loser attitude he is over

Chavez has a losing attitude. This is just another excuse 4 him 2 use. He was beat by Sergio b4 he laced them up. Oh I didn’t train hard enough, I got tested possitive 4 weed….lossing attitude. Plenty of other people deserve big pay day and more importantly than any pay day deserve tittle shots. He is done. Nowhere 2 go. Sergio, Golovkin, Geale would all beat him. And If he steps up. Ward, Kessler, Pavlic,Froch, hell even Bute would all beat him. Done. D-O-N-E, done

I don’t know if Julio should necessarily be suspended but I would like to see the Nevada Commission take away a good portion of his purse from the Martinez fight and order him to attend drug rehab or risk a long term suspension. This guy is a repeat offender and should be taught a lesson. He shouldn’t get special treatment just because he’s a legend’s son and Jose’s godson. And I hate the way HBO is making a rematch with Martinez to be so essential. Until the last round the fight was a total blowout. I think Martinez mainly got dropped in the 12th because he was still gunning for a stoppage and was probably way overconfident at that point so he got caught. It is amazing that he made it out of the round though because he did injure one of his legs during the knockdown.

Can some of you get you facts straight? whatever your personal gripes with Marijuana or Chavez this is NOT a drug used as a masking agent… Metabolites of Cannibis are some of the most long lasting amongst illicit drugs, testing hair can show usage months after intake… Chavez is just a dummy who likely took a few hits during training bad practice but hardly a capital offense… Who has gotten some sort of massive fine or LONG suspension for smoking weed??

Posted September 27, 2012 6:58 am

I wonder if it’s a masking drug for PEDs. Oh, it’s just pot, no big deal.

Posted September 27, 2012 4:39 am

Boxing can’t tolerate anyone using illicit drugs. That’s not going to fly. Especially since every boxer KNOWS you get tested for marijuana use.. That’s like getting in your face and saying.. “Yeah, I’m a druggie. What are you going to do about it commissioner? You boys can kiss my patootie.”

Posted September 27, 2012 2:35 am

If Nevada suspends Chavez Jr. pretty much all the other states will follow suit. Except Texas. That state will do anything for $2.00.

Posted September 26, 2012 11:17 pm

Anonymous, telling your kids to smoke weed instead of drinking alcohol is like telling them to play outside in an electrical storm instead jumping off a cliff into a dry lake. Just because you don’t see or understand the risk involved with smoking pot doesn’t mean there isn’t one. Besides that, it’s a “banned substance.” What is it that you don’t understand about that phrase? It’s not that he smoked marijuana–it’s that he took a banned substance before a fight. There’s a reason such rules are in place. But like I told the other yo-yo’s in this thread, read the WBC rules regarding anti-doping and banned substances. BTW, if you insist on telling your kids to smoke pot instead of drinking alcohol, just remember, at the age of 21 alcohol is legal. Pot still isn’t.

Posted September 26, 2012 11:07 pm

You’re an idiot too. You talk like a daddy just found out his kid smoked pot and he’s going to punish him. Like I told SRedmon:. Read the WBC rules regarding banned substances. The WBC isn’t punishing Chavez for “smoking.” They’re punishing him for breaking the rules, for taking a banned substance.

Posted September 26, 2012 11:02 pm

What are you talking about? Read the WBC antidoping regulations regarding banned substances. The WBC has nothing in it’s regulations that says “oh, he only smoke grass.” The WBC classifies marijuana as a hallucinogen and as a banned substance, the user of which being subject to the same penalties and punishments as a fighter who uses PEDs or any other banned substance. “The dude” deserves any punishment and/or penalty thrown at him. I’d say the same thing if Martinez tested positive for pot. Get real, Sredmond.

Posted September 26, 2012 10:59 pm

Thank you oh thank you, Godfather Sulaiman. You gave me a free belt, now you’re letting me off easy for testing positive for a banned substance, right after the biggest fight of my life. Thank you oh godfather Sulaiman. I owe you heap many blowjobs.

This is a joke! That guy has tested positive for PEDS and pot before. I guess this explains that stupid grin on the faceoff with Max Kellerman. Only a 10k fine? He spends that much a week on KUSH. VIVA Sergio Martinez, for whooping that ass. Freddie Roache? The most overated trainer in the last 20yrs. “Freddie the joke coach Roache”. Roache knows damn well his fighters are on that artificial crap!

Posted September 26, 2012 10:28 pm

You cant give it the same punishment as a PED, yes it is banned ( illeagal ). So is speeding in your car but you dont give it the same punishment as manslaughter. You have to apply some common sense. Be realistic, banned yes, punishable yes, same level as PED no. To say that it sholuld be the same is narrow minded and naive. Alhough I agree that he did get off lightly.

Posted September 26, 2012 9:57 pm

This may just tick Nevada off enough to really hit him hard. So just wait and see. I mean the guy actually stole the belt off a true champion to give the fraud. And is probably about to figure a way to give it back. It is truly pathetic.

Posted September 26, 2012 9:50 pm

Everybody looks out for their own. What did you guys expect the WBC to do????

Posted September 26, 2012 9:48 pm

Good for the WBC the dude hardly deserves a huge fine or suspension for smoking some grass, if he wants to undermine his own efforts in the ring so be it…

Posted September 26, 2012 9:38 pm

I believe the Chavez team will wait for a rematch with Martinez until he’s 40… They’ll keep offering Sergio ridiculously small amounts of money for the rematch and say he’s ducking them.. Meanwhile they’ll get somebody else stripped of a middleweight title so they can fight for a vacated title – or they’ll use a pot of money to lure Sturm, Geale, or N’Jkan to Las Vegas for a title defense.

Posted September 26, 2012 9:24 pm

Damm wish the NSAC weren’t so stupid with this weed issue. Punishing fighters for smoking sucks. Different story if it were steroids. But again with the performance enhancing debate of weed. Free the weed.

Many of the substances banned for boxers aren’t illegal for the general population.. Many of the banned items are in over-the-counter products anybody can buy and consume, if they’re not a boxer.. Marijuana is illegal for general consumption by citizens of the US and Mexico if they happen to be in either country … and not just banned for professional boxers.

The rematch isn’t going to happen regardless. Martinez broke his hand and is having knee surgery. Chavez is getting off easy, but it’s not a surprise considering the WBC is the most corrupt belt out there.

Posted September 26, 2012 2:55 pm

For biting a section of Evander Holyfield’s ear off, Mike Tyson was fined 3 million of his 30 million dollar purse.. Holyfield kept his whole 35 million dollar paycheck, although some commission members agreed that Evander’s headbutts instigated the biting. In today’s money Holyfield’s purse would be at least 80 million dollars.. I don’t know if testing positive for marijuana is as bad as biting ears, but if they took 10% of Chaves’z 3 million that’s 300,000 dollars.. Legally, they could fine Chavez much more, even the entire 3 million if they wanted to… If he was a prelim fighter making 13,000 they’d probably grab the whole thing.. But if they’d took a million or more they’d piss off everyone connected to Chavez and maybe move his next fight to Cowbody Stadium; so in my view it’ll be 300,000.

Posted September 26, 2012 2:52 pm
