“I still get that feeling he (George) could end up seriously injured at the weekend and a small part of me will think, “Good, serves him right!”

What a scum bag thing to say, NOBODY in their right mind wants to see ANY fighters hurt in the ring no matter what they say before the fight! And I promise you this what you are seeing is all HYPE to sell the fight. Once it’s all over Carl and George will hug each other and say good fight no matter what happens, and in the event that either one is badly hurt after the fight neither of those two warriors will be happy to see that happen. Unlike you TJ!

and then you say …

“… if we have a GRIFFITH vs PARET type scenario, where someone gets killed in the ring? The press and abolitionists, of which there are many will have a field day crucifying our sport…. after PARET died after the GRIFFITH fight, boxing hit hard times and disappeared from the TV for a decade….”

And yet you have the nerve to say “If Groves ends up seriously hurt, good serves him right!” You’re a total hypocrite. No genuine fight fan or professional boxer would agree with your comments TJ. Your attitude is this: I don’t care what happens to George as long as I can keep watching boxing on TV.

Ali was the king of trash talking, so were many others after him, it’s all part of the fight game to sell the fight! To make as much money as possible for both fighters. It’s their living, it’s their lives on the line! It’s a short and very dangerous career, they both have to hype the fight! To make as much money as possible! For the fighters, for the promoters, for the trainers, for everyone concerned with the fight.

As for the Griffith v Paret fight, at least outline some facts! Paret had been in three brutal fights leading up to his last tragic fight, he should never have stepped into the ring! Second, in this day and age, especially with the memory of the tragic Michael Watson fight with Chris Eubank back in 1991 STILL in the minds of many GENUINE fight fans here in the UK there is NO WAY that any Ref in the UK would let George Groves or Carl Froch take 29 punches in the same way that Paret took from Griffith without stepping in and stopping the fight MUCH earlier!! It simply wouldn’t happen. Boxing is a very dangerous sport as we have seen very recently with the sad death of Frankie Leal and the career ending injury of Magomed Abdusalamov no one wants to see that happen! But to say in one breath you would be glad to see George Groves get badly hurt, and then in another to moan that fighters shouldn’t bad mouth each other to sell the fight, is just plain stupid and naive.

Carl Froch has trashed talked ALL of his opponents over the years! That’s how he gets his mindset right in the build up to a fight, he has admitted that time and time again, that’s how he sells the fight! It’s part of the fight game. But it’s different when George does the same thing to Carl?

99% of all fighters trash talk, it’s their way of getting inside a fighters head!! They are there to win, to take home the victory at all costs. Only a sicko wants to see fighter get hurt because of a little bit of trash talk.

Going by your comments TJ you’d be happy to see ALL fighters (including Carl Froch) who trash talk before a fight, get hurt in the ring so you can sit in the safety of your living room and say, “Good serves him right!”

Neil (Pomy)

Oh give over guys and stop being so simplistic and overly-sensitive. So Groves has trash-talked … who cares!!!! Big deal!!!!. Personally, I think Froch will win and I will cheering Froch on to do just that …… however i dont begrudge Groves running-his-mouth …. its all part of the game. Trash-talking is part of the game ….. get over it!!!! I am a Froch fan but Groves has won the mind-war by a huge margin ….. but Froch should still win the actual fight.

TJ hit the nail on the head

I always enjoy a Carl Froch interview and I’ve really warmed to the man over the years. He talks a lot and occasionally drops in the odd clanger but then don’t we all?! The fact is, for all his faults, he’s a proven commodity. He’ll never be the best SMW while Ward is around and we all accept that but for me he’s entertainig in and out of the ring and I always look forward to his fights. I’ve been indifferent towards Groves but now I really dislike him and his recent verbal tactics have come right out of the Booth/Haye tosser manual! Froch by KO in the second half of the fight.

Froch win

Big lol at the froch haters. He’s well on hits way to being a UK legend. Enjoy this fight Froch and enjoy laughing at the haters, pure jealousy at the end of the day. Easy win for Froch. only a complete idiot would put money on Groves in this fight.

In all honesty Froch was just as “rude, childish and arrogant” when he repeatedly slagged off Calzaghe back in 07/08. Carl gave absolutely no respect to Joe whatsoever. Apparently Calzaghe “ducked” Carl (whose best wins were against a washed up old Reid and Brian Magee) to face an undefeated prime Kessler and the top 5 pound for pounder, Ring light heavy champ Hopkins! Yep whatever u say Cobra. … Reid and Woodhall were higher calibre British opponents at the time they challenged Joe for his WBO belt than Groves is to Froch today. ….yet in the UK this is getting hyped into some kind of super Sky Sports are great at conning the masses in England, although it is an intriguing fight to be fair. I wouldn’t bet any money on a Groves win, but I’ll be rooting for him.

I HAVE BEEN THINKING back to the goading that PARET did to EMILE GRIFFITH and the resulting tragic circumstances and I truly pray I am wrong because, I can see COBRA using the disgraceful taunting as fuel to give ST GROVES the beating of his life over 12 long hard and painful rounds. If Groves is seriously injured, then he has only himself to blame.

Massive shame that both GROVES and HAYE will be remembered for being classless tools rather than for their in ring skills.

HAYE taunting the KLITSCHKO’S for years with his vile images of their heads in his hands should have been banned and then what he said HARRISON would look like after he finished with him was reprehensible and particularly as he was given the chance to apologise on RADIO 5 LIVE but repeated his comments, just shows what classless tools they really are.

I supported Groves vs bully DEGALE, but feel these are his true colours and I still get that feeling he could end up seriously injured at the weekend and a small part of me will think, “Good, serves him right!”

Sad truth is Groves is a good fighter, who doesn’t need this cr*p to sell a FROCH fight.
I just hope he is paid well, because drinking champagne through teeth smashed to bits is both a difficult and painful task.

I would like to see the winner unify with ROBERT STIEGLITZ, who will give a great fight to either and deserves a crack at the top table whilst we wait on ANDRE WARD’s next move.

Hopefully Ward can get a high publicized fight with Chavez Jr. that will bring more fan attention to the Froch/Ward rematch.

Swedish Boxing Fan

After this fight if Carl Froch defends his world title belts, lets make Carl Froch vs Andre Ward II happen.

Froch will give this jerk a severe beating about the head & shouders. Well deserved, I might add.
