Broner wide open fought no one Ricky burns would beat broner with jab alone….do you know anything about boxing doubt it.

I’m not hating on Burns, people just seem to be mad that I’m calling it like it is. Burns is very good and a legit top 4 fighter in the division but with FW managing his career I doubt he’ll ever prove it, he’ll take the typical FW formula of defending as often as possible at home vs no hopers while pulling the wool over the UK fight fans who will eat it up like they always do.I’m just not impressed with a victory over Mitchell who was never any good to begin with. Burns win over Martinez- now that’s impressive and the guy has the tools to give anyone at LW problems.

you’re a moron! why cause i’m with the majority who feel broner will beat him and has an equal resume and actually thjorughly explained it? I like burns and give him credit. he is worldclass and a very good technician. you’re the muppet buying into the hype just cause you’re also fromt he UK. What are you gonna say when next Broner beats the brakes off of the #1 fighter int he divison meanwhile Burns faces 2 journeymen in a pointless rematch with Mitchell and then a fight with the very mediocre gavin rees- 2 dudes who should never get title shots.

Great job Burns…yes he is WORLD CLASS!!!

Love burns, love you scots

Harsh T-Bag… I can boil it down for you like this though… Mitchell is a very well managed fighter and has been put in with people designed to make him look impressive. When he took a step up in class agains Katsidis, he was found wanting terribly. So the solution was to build him back up again and cash him in against Burns. Unfortunately this is not a formula exclusive to British fighters, but it is something that Warren is an ardent proponent of.

Look at Amir Khan’s career as an example, he too will probably be built back up by GB and used to make their next superstar look impressive. They can’t really invest in him because his chin is always likely to be found by top level operators.

No offence to Burns in this, he’s just being managed in an effective way by an efficient promotor. If he follows the path he is on and keeps winning, he’ll break away and pursue some real challenges.

damn good fighters for the uk, journeymen on the world stage. yall hype up your domestic pugs too much. rees is a joke and thats coming soon for burns meanwhile broners fighting demarco and you can bet youll never see him vs non worldclass fighters like mitchell and rees. ricky’s a good fighter but he’s with fw meaning well never see him prove how good he is as theyll be happy pulling the wool over the uk fight crowd by staying at home and beating on dudes that aint worldclass like mitchel and you morons will eat it up…..he’ll be 15 defenses deep without ven beating one a level fighterl. how are you fools impressed with a win over that glass jawed no hoper mitchell??

Posted September 24, 2012 2:08 pm

dead on mate, fw will never let ricky near burns…it’ll be rees or some other domestic level no hoper next

Posted September 24, 2012 2:01 pm

Burns just gets better and better! I’m English and was cheering for Mitchell but Burns did a number on him. Impressive. He look huge at the weight and very strong. He seems to be coming into his peak and at 29 the time to move him is now. Hopefully Frank Warren can get him some unification fights and we can see how far he can really go. Good lad as well – hard not to support him. Can even see him moving to light-welter at some point given his size.

The weight must have been an issue. But the real issue is he’s promoted by Warren who wouldn’t let Burns anywhere near Broner…

Less money over a long career is better than a 1 time big payday and this is how Warren thinks. Look at the padding on Calzaghe and Hatton’s resume before they left Warren and promoted themselves.

I’m sure Burns would want the fight, but his promotor would run a mile. Any good quality oponents on paper will be shot in reality ala Katsidis, Cook and Mitchell… All look good on paper, but were all shot when Burns got in with them.

Well done Ricky. Pay no attention to idiots like T-Bag on this site, You beat a talented contender in convincing style. Whoever Frank offers you next, you’ll discuss with your manager, Alex Morrison. Listen to him. He’s never let you down.
Oh, and T-Bag, if you’re still watching this site. Alec Arthur and Carl Johanson are damned good fighters and certainly not journeymen.

Posted September 24, 2012 11:18 am

@ T-BAG – you can’t really use someone that Broner hasn’t even fought yet to boost his CV. The point people are making is that Broner hasn’t fought anyone except PDL, who many people think he lost to. Burns is a real fighter and if Broner beat him is would be a huge scalp. This cannot be in dispute. Listing the guys Burns lost to over 5 years ago is as clueless as Mayweather mentioning that Pac has losses on his record. It’s called improving and evolving as a fighter. Yes, it is possible. Bernard Hopkins lost his first fight ffs.

I wouldn’t be surprised if De Marco exposed Broner, I mean if a limited Ponce de Leon beat him and got robbed, he’s already been exposed in my book and many others, Ricky would finish the job.

Richieboy right on bro.

Posted September 24, 2012 4:23 am

correct bro.

Posted September 24, 2012 4:22 am

oh deary me.

Posted September 24, 2012 4:21 am

obviously the weight was a major issue then eh.

Posted September 24, 2012 4:20 am

T-Bag obviously knows nothing about boxing being so in love with someone like the hype job Broner. Well done Ricky, great performance, the world awaits now.

No power? What was that on sat night against a guy that took breidis Prescotts punches. Broner will get rinsed

Posted September 24, 2012 1:17 am

yes there was the fight was all but signed. There was a date set, purse agreed upon, HBO were promoting it already and US Bank Arena was booked. It was good to go and Burns decided he didn’t want any problems even if it meant the biggest payday on the biggest stage of his career and achieving what every boxer dreams of by coming to US and headlining on HBO.

The Kingslayer

There wasn’t any talks at the time about a fight when Burns vacated and moved up, however Broner was his mandatory. I wouldn’t say Ricky flat out ducked Broner because there wasn’t a fight on the table but I do feel it speeded up his weight issues.

Posted September 23, 2012 10:13 pm

So you’re impressed with Broner who has beaten no one and needed the help of bent judges to get the decision over Ponce de Leon. Burns is no hype-job unlike Broner – I really really hope this fight can be made just to shut up idiots like you.

Posted September 23, 2012 6:57 pm

Your talking mince, Ricky moved up to lightweight because he was killing himself making weight, and rumour has it it was even a struggle to make lightweight this time round. Burns wouldn’t duck anyone, least of all a hype job like Broner.

Posted September 23, 2012 6:30 pm

give burns some credit his resume is way better than broners last time broner stepped up he got a gift decision its a great fight hope it gets made

Posted September 23, 2012 6:27 pm

the Broner fight was gonna be on HBO too and Burns turned it down.

Posted September 23, 2012 6:06 pm

Burns knows Broner is too much for him and will probably never fight him. He had a fight lined up with Broner and backed out and moved up in weight instead, and it was the biggest fight of his career, biggest payday and biggest stage of his life and he ran away from it. Burns has a chance to be the 3rd best LW though behind Broner and Vazquez, he’s pretty good technically but has no power to keep a guy like Broner from beating him up.

Posted September 23, 2012 6:05 pm

what a load of crap!!! Burns beating Mitchell wow!! Mitchells a bum who got blown out by a shot Katsidis. Beating Mitchell does nothing to improve his status, Mitchell would get obliterated by most of the top LW’s in the same fashion. Broner would ice Burns in 6 or less

Posted September 23, 2012 6:02 pm

My big worrie for Burns is’nt in a ring, no its outside it. I feel he’s that much of a nice guy that he’ll be robbed blind by promoters n managers. Just the impression i;m getting. Seems like he would’nt be hard to satisfie pay wise.

I can see Burns exposing boner as another Daniel Jacobs….

Posted September 23, 2012 5:08 pm

The Kingslayer

I still feel Broner would be too fast and athletic for Burns though.

Posted September 23, 2012 4:17 pm

Good to see Ricky getting the credit he deserves, he’s a match for any lightweight out there.

Posted September 23, 2012 4:15 pm

The Kingslayer

I was impressed too. I just hope for Ricky’s sake he gets to face top ten Lightweights and Frank Warren doesn’t do his usual act of padding his record with bums.

i was at the secc for the fight and am delighted by the outcome. He is a true model pro and the humility and grace he shows is something a lot of sportsmen all over the world could learn from. He is geting better and better and i hope he can go on to be scotlands best ever fighter. he deserves it. id love him to go over to vegas and make the country proud.

Have to say I was very impressed with Burns, I picked him to win a D, the Ko was just added icing on the cake, This is a kid to be watching for in the very near future, the real McCoy-great write up here–peace
