Puerto rican vs Mexican sounds good to me. Canelo vs “king” rosado should happen.

You’re absolutely right, Facts…becoming the WBC Champ of the Junior Middleweight division instantly warrants criticism if the title holder doesn’t defend it against the next highest ranked fighters in the division.

That’s why I didn’t understand why everyone was criticizing Chavez Jr. last year but accepting Canelo’s situation; winning the title at a catchweight of 150 pounds and not fighting Vanes Martirosyan, who became the number one ranked WBC fighter in June of last year when he stopped Saul Roman. But the WBC changed their original decision and created this title eliminator tournament to buy Canelo some much needed time to grow into a true 154 pound fighter.

He got a free pass from most until he decided to take on Josesito Lopez.

You’re probably right, Hidalgo…that’s why he’ll more than likely be Canelo’s next opponent on December 8th.

I’m in complete agreement with you on both sides of this coin.

Wow…Moe, Ortiz didn’t have great success at 147? Ortiz had more success at 147 than he did at 140. He defeated WBC Champ Andre Berto, which landed him a mammoth fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr…I’m sure most fighters wished they had the same kind of mild success their respective weight class.

Victor was a big Jr. Welter and is comparable in size to Canelo Alvarez. I think you forget that Canelo didn’t begin his career at 154 pounds either. Yes, he is the champion at Junior Middleweight and I have criticized GBP for not honoring the ranking system at 154 pounds. But, the majority of Canelo’s fights have been at Welterweight. He just started fighting as a 154 pound fighter last year when he fought Ryan Rhodes in June.

Like I stated in another post, I would have no problem with the way GBP is handling Canelo if it weren’t for the fact that he is the current WBC Champ at Junior Mid.

Look at the situation from this percpetive, Lightweights Ricky Burns and Antonio DeMarco are both taller than Canelo Alvarez.

ortiz was fighting at 140 not too long ago. and he hasnt had great success at 147, so why go fight canelo at 154. picking on smaller fighters.

The Mad Scientist

Canelo has a date in December lined up, maybe Rosado get his shot.

Posted September 22, 2012 10:11 pm

Canelas future has the potential to be good. But the paper champ deserves all the criticism he gets,As soon this diva/princess starts fighting the best, guys his own size & beating them then we’ll talk.Rosado would be a solid opponent for the read-headed kid better than a blown up jr welterweight(140lb).

Posted September 22, 2012 9:39 pm

His future does look bright, Joseph, but not against Alvarez. Canelo is better in so many ways. Although Rosado has great reflexes and actually can slip punches (imagine that), Rosado’s defense has some serious holes in it, holes that Canelo would readily exploit. Canelo is also powerful, is a very fine boxer, and possesses a presence of mind in a fight that allows him to think clearly even when he’s under fire. Rosado would be a tough opponent for Canelo, but not a tough win. I expect a TKO by Canelo if he ever fights Rosado. So if I were Rosado’s promoter and trainer, I push a fight with Alvarez down the road at least a year. Because remember, Canelo is also “athletic…” and his future definitely looks bright too!

I agree 100%

Posted September 22, 2012 9:02 pm

Canelo would punish Rosado.

Posted September 22, 2012 9:00 pm

I’d like to see Canelo step up too, but reality Lara got a gift against Molina. So give the shot to Molina or Rosado. I think Canelos gonna make some doubter believers in this next year.

Posted September 22, 2012 8:28 pm

I like Rosado but ex 140 lber Maidana just stopped Soto Karras as well in his 1st fight at 47. That said I like the fight but feel Canelo stops Rosado late. Lets hope they make it happen

FA, the reason why he was calling out Canelo is because it’s the more likely fight, believe it or not. K9 is older and is big game hunting right now. Canelo’s advisor, the Great Don Chargin, is very good friends with Rosado’s promoter Russell Peltz. Rosado was Chargin’s first choice for Canelo on Sept 15th, believe it or not. So on December 8th, You will be seeing either K9 Bundrage or Rosado face Canelo in San Antonio, TX.

I was impressed as well.. could be an opponent for Chavez Jr. if they decide a rematch with Maritnez would be too risky.. Providing he’s not banned for a year..

That “anonymous” is me BTW. Don’t know why ESB erased my name and is generally jacked up since the new site launched. It’s been months and y’all are still working out bugs?

Sergei Kovalev was real impressive. I never saw him before. Great technical fundamentals, good balance, sharp punches and super aggressive. My kind o fighter.

Posted September 22, 2012 5:26 pm

Rosado’s really coming of age now. I saw him bring heat and KO some good comp over the last year. He’s the mandatory challenger for K9 now and that’s a very winnable fight. I don’t know why he kept talking about Canelo when he spent all this time working his way up to mandatory status. Take the title shot and push for unification later.

WTF, if Canelo didn’t have the WBC title around his waist, I would have no problem with the way GBP has been cultivating their young fighter. Don Chargin and Bruce Trampler are the very best at nurturing a fighter’s career. Fighters should be brought up gradually to test and expand their overall skill set slowly…just look at fighters who were pushed too quickly…Fernando Vargas, Micky Ward, Victor Ortiz…you can cite many examples throughout the history of boxing. Boxing is the toughest mental game in the world. Once a fighter’s confidence gets shaken, it’s very hard to repair.

As for the Josesito Lopez bout, GBP did not want to make this fight happen but was obligated to do so after stating publicly that the winner of Ortiz/Lopez would fight Canelo. Golden Boy never thought in a million years that Ortiz would lose to Lopez. Since getting punished by Maidana and then humiliated by Mayweather, I will be very surprised if young Victor ever reaches his true potential in the fight game.

meant Joseph..

Posted September 22, 2012 2:43 pm

James Herron – Agree,, Just don’t understand why Goldenboy feels they need to protect Canelo from the other fighters in his weight division?? Could it be that they just don’t have the confidence in him to risk fighting anyone of the dozen or so guys Canelo could easily be fighting at 154lbs Like his Mandatory Cuban Lara, up and comer Rosado, Quillin, Sergio Martinez, etc etc.. why take on these much smaller opponents like Josesito Lopez??? Does nothing for him career wise.. more like a stall tactic…

Like current WBO Featherweight Champ Orlando Salido, some fighters have to be brought up the hard way and are forced to learn on the job.

Most fighters don’t have the benefit of Hall of Famers Don Chargin and Bruce Trampler guiding their career paths from the very beginning, like Canelo and Chavez Jr.

Judge slowly on Rosado…he was forced to come up the hard way. He’s very athletic and has one of the most underrated trainers in boxing, Billy Briscoe, in his corner. His future definitely looks bright!!

A lot of tough fighters got KTFO’d by Alfredo Angulo…no shame in that, brother.

Posted September 22, 2012 1:44 pm

You’ve made very good points. Also, I do think that Angulo is a much better fighter than any fighter Alvarez has faced (including the 40 year old Mosley).

Posted September 22, 2012 1:06 pm

This chump calling out Canelo but got K.T.F.O by Alfredo Angulo….baawwwwhhwhwhh!!!!..

stupid ricans we have to be slow with them when you want to get a point across, prior to lopez matched being anounced canelo was being matched against some decent fighters victor ortiz paul williams james kirkland but ALL failed to secure the fight on thier behalf

Posted September 22, 2012 1:02 pm

Lara can’t beat Molina and can’t fill a living room couch and Rosado ??????? Let me Google him…Lmao!!! Canelo vs Mayweather make it happen.

Posted September 22, 2012 12:57 pm

Young Danny Garcia did much better vs 34 year old Eric Morales and Amir Khan then Canelo did vs Old man Mosely and an undersized Josesito Lopez… Point being, what’s so special about Canelo?? who has he beaten that was undefeated and rated Number 1?

Posted September 22, 2012 12:50 pm

Canelo did nothing against tiny 42 year old Mosely, it was a glorified sparring session with Mosely at times appearing to be holding back.. it was a non-event fight.. Canelo never hurt or backed up old man Mosely.. If Canelo fought Angulo at an early stage in his developement he too could’ve easily been hurt but that was then and this is now.. Margarito beat a young Sergio Martinez early in his career.. look at where both guys are at today… There is no reason why Canelo should be fighting 140lb’ers when he has a Mandatory Cuban Lara and guys his size like Rosado, Quillin, Quintana, etc etc just waiting for a shot at the Title…

Posted September 22, 2012 12:47 pm

Rosado has very good skills, stamina and power. However, he was KO’d by Angulo in 2 rounds several years ago. He also was hurt trying to finish off Whitaker. He really got wild in there. So, I’m not sure he can beat Alvarez… I think Alvarez is a little unproven as well, but he handled Mosley pretty easily… I’m not sure how well Rosado would have done against Mosley.

Posted September 22, 2012 12:43 pm

it can only be in december i guess, thats his next fight, but i think it will be kirkland who i think is better, hes well known rosado nobody knows him, after december i think hell unify against winner of cotto/trout in may followed by mandatory in sept.. thats how i see canelos next few fights

Crimson, no one is hating when it comes to this topic…I can’t believe I’m writing this on ESB…LOL.

GBP deserves this well deserved criticism by putting Canelo in a title opportinity when they knew he wasn’t ready to defend one. If a fighter isn’t going to defend the WBC title against the best fighters in the division, then he has no business wearing it around his waist.

Canelo has made Chavez Jr. and Felix Sturm look like princes!!

Posted September 22, 2012 12:41 pm

especially if you kept fighting Creme Puffs… now go out and be a man son..and fight someone your size and age LOL

Why is someone a Hater when they’re just demanding that a Champion, who has been holding a Championship belt for almost a year! take on his Sanchioning Bodies #1 Mandatory Fighter? which in this case is Cuban Lara? Isn’t Cuban Lara entitled to a shot at a belt in an organization they both belong to???

Posted September 22, 2012 12:36 pm

Either he fights his Mandatory Cuban Lara or he takes on Gabriel Rosado… No more Creme Puffs for the Red Headed PrimaDonna…

remember canelito when you were 15, i told you the haters would come around

Posted September 22, 2012 12:34 pm

He’s Holding a WBC Championship Belt for almost a year! When is he going to be forced to fight that Sanctioning Bodies Mandatory #1 Fighter, Cuban Lara???? Either he fights Lara or he should be stripped.. None of the Elites are going to waste their time with this Red Headed PrimaDonna.

Posted September 22, 2012 12:32 pm

Gabriel Rosado has been calling out Canelo since Rosado Knocked Out Soto Karass.. and Sachu Pau but as we’ve seen Canelo only fights over the hill fossils like 42 year old mosely or skinny 140lb’ers like Josesito Lopez.. Well he called him out again in a respectful manner lets see if Canelo goes running again…

Sister Sledge, you just described every top rated fighter in the 154 pound division!! He has to face one of them sometime soon…If I’m Golden Boy, I’d much rather pit Canelo against Rosado instead of having him face the winner of the Lara/Martirosyan bout on November 10th. Either way, Canelo will have to start fighting the best of the Junior Middleweight division…Can’t wait!!

Posted September 22, 2012 12:21 pm

Canelo won’t fight Rosado. He’s too much of a risk and not enough reward.

Posted September 22, 2012 12:15 pm

They could fight in a couple of months…it would be one the more fan friendly match-ups in the packed 154 pound weight division!!
