I hope it’s not Cottos last dance….I’d like 2 c him go out a winner.

Chavez was exposed… It will be interesting to see what patsy they have Chavez Jr fight next.

Agree Ward, Froch, Bute, Kessler, Abraham, Stieglitz all beat Chavez jr badly

A Mayweather Khan fight could fill Wembley stadium, imagining that type of crowd and atmosphere for a World Title Fight these days isn’t heard of outside of South America

Robe – Delahoya demanded a catch weight vs an old Hopkins long before Floyd or anyone else of this ERA demanded these bullsht catchweights..

Mex – but Canelo walks around at 175+lbs and fights at 154lbs and rehydrates up to 172+lbs.. Chavez jr. walks around at 190+lbs and fights at 160 and Rehydrates up to 190+lbs.. most if not all 154lb’ers rehydrate to 160lbs thats normal.. what is not normal is the weight gains of 20+lbs and highter like Canelo and Chavez Jr.

“Cotto fights at 154 and dehydrates to upper 160s”

Mex, I think you mean “rehydrates,” not “dehydrates.”

Posted October 1, 2013 10:57 pm

Mex

Cotto walks around the 160+ or more he is just a midget thou . Cotto fights at 154 and dehydrates to upper 160s.

Jr can do OK at 168 if he’s in shape and avoids Ward and Froch. He was obv in poor shape Saturday. I don’t know if he has the dedication to show up in shape though.

Not a bad point at all. You get a guy to dehydrate to a raisin-like condition and he looses strength and power and speed and actually..everything. His brain is even de hydrated so he does not think right either. Catch-weight is a catch 22 in Floyd’s contracts.

Posted October 1, 2013 4:09 pm

robe

Does anyone really ….expect Floyd to lose a catch weight fight? Lets not put him on a pedestal for doing something he is expected to do by not allowing a fighter to fight at their normal weight. There’s an advantage that benefits only Floyd in these catchweight deals. This is the reason Floyd wins these fights, why he chooses these fights and why he shouldn’t be called a p4p fighter. A real p4p fighter doesn’t fight catchweight fights as a habit. Instead of using it sparingly, he has made it his MO. What a poor excuse for a champion.

I think that photo is where Alvarez just hit Phloid in the balls. Floyd then comes over to Can with his hands out and Can should have Sunday Punched him and Knocked Floyds ass out. Using a little of Floyd’s own medicine aka the Ortiz Fight.

Top Rank won’t make any money from me and I was about to put about $250 in their pockets over the next month. Was going to go to the Alvarado fight but forget it. Not buying either of their PPVs. They aren’t worth it and the fights are fixed. Vera goes through hell fighting a much bigger man and he robs him. I won’t be robbed too.

Peej, lots of fighters have their own promotional companies including Canelo, Sergio Martinez of Maravilla Box Promotions, Pacquiao Promotions, Mosley promotions, Marquez brothers Promotions, Mundine Promotions, Antonio Margarito Promotions, Zab Super Judah Promotions, Klitchko K2 Promotions, Khan Promotions, etc. etc.. etc..

But they are still signed with main promoters as Cotto is signed with Top Rank

I`d see Kessler-Jnr as looking like Kessler-Andrade. Jnr`s head would be bouncing around like a pinball, and he`d find a reason to stay on his stool after 5-6 rounds.

Posted September 30, 2013 6:13 pm

PEEJ

Exactly. There is no shame in losing to Floyd. Floyd makes everybody look like that.

Posted September 30, 2013 6:08 pm

SREDMOND

Cotto ain’t fighting at 147 even though his height and reach probably work better there… His density and physical maturation have inserted him at 154 he’s gonna have to produce the wins.. Assuming he defeats Rodriguez he should go bash Angulo who loves to eat punches..

Posted September 30, 2013 5:32 pm

SREDMOND

Canelo is HARDLY a flop if he had gotten KOed in the 5th round against Floyd that’s another matter… Alvarez looked like all Mayweather opponents pretty much do “varying degrees of outclassed” the kid is 23 and everything he attempted might have worked against a lot of World Class boxers… Floyd was just not there to be found with those shots… What’s new??

Posted September 30, 2013 5:28 pm

TJ- Freddie Roach said a little more than a week ago that he thinks Cotto can still make 147 comfortably with the right nutritionist (apparently he was already around 156 a week ago) and that he sees the winner of Bradley/Marquez as his preferred next opponent. Although, he did also mention that Sergio Martinez would not be out of the question…

Posted September 30, 2013 5:16 pm

TARK

TJ says.., “Kessler would stop Jnr as Kessler is actually the best banger of the three”

I love that matchup.. Two guys who are hard to miss with a punch.. A ton of heavy punches landing. It would be very hard to negotiate.

The thing is, Kessler’s team would insist on fighting in Denmark and Chavez Jr’s team would want another situation like Brian Vera — where they control the judges who are appointed.

Posted September 30, 2013 4:56 pm

PEEJ

No he is not signed with Top Rank. It is fight by fight. He is under his own promotional banner like Floyd is. Floyd is not signed to Golden Boy but they promote his fights along side Mayweather Promotions. Same goes with Cotto Promotions.

Posted September 30, 2013 4:35 pm

The Mad Scientist

PE – why do you worry so much about a possible Cotto/Canelo clash..after all Mayweather pulled the curtains on Cinnabum and showed the world he was nothing but a hype job correct..as long as Alvarez makes weight the day of the weigh-in what’s the big deal..I don’t think is against the rules what a fighter hydrates too the day of the fight..besides a season pro like Cotto got this in the bag since Canelo has been exposed to be another Chavez Jr flop according to you right..easy money for Junito no need to worry kid..let them fight at 154lbs I mean what the worst thing that can happen..after all Miguel gave Floyd Mayweather the toughest fight of his career meanwhile Canelo was reduced to a glorify sparring partner remember..Lol

Posted September 30, 2013 4:14 pm

Peej,

Miguel Cotto: “Who better to finish my career with than Top Rank?”

Its common knowledge that Cotto was with Golden Boy and merely to fight Floyd but is now signed with Top Rank

Chavez Jr and Arum will go after Sakio Bika and then AVOID Andre Ward!!

Posted September 30, 2013 3:37 pm

Public Enemy

Cotto will not go down to 147lbs the real question is whether Canelo can be kept from pulling his weight gain trick by Cotto like Mayweather did. Cotto should fight the same 152lb Canelo that floyd did to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges.. If Canelo does not agree to the same terms he fought Mayweather at he needs to move to his true 160+lb weight division and take on GGG, Lara, Rosado, Quillin, etc etc etc…

Posted September 30, 2013 3:35 pm

PEEJ

Cotto is not signed with Top Rank nor is he signed to HBO. He is on a fight by fight basis just as he was when he worked with Golden Boy. A fight with Canelo is very possible.

Supreme Court – the tree of Chavez Snr must have been on top of a big hill for the apple to end up that far away….
Vivek is bang on – Chavez moving to 168 leaves him very little in way of options.Ward, kessler,Froch, even Groves and Degale would batter Chavez senseless….he’s feasted on much, much smaller opponents….his only route, and the one I suspect he’ll take is to fight Bika, seeing it as an easy way to a belt, then milk it against soft opposition as long as possible. The only problem is,that while while Bika is the weakest beltholder/name at 168,he’s still a strong, rough supermiddle with more than enough guile to beat the pants of chavez. He’ll be exposed. Not soon enough for my liking.Vera was robbed of not just a win,but of a nice financial future for his family. He came and gave it his all against a much bigger man.And they stole from him.makes my stomach churn.

If both win their upcoming fights, Cotto vs Juan Manuel Marquez at 147 is more likely than Cotto vs Canelo. Roach said that Cotto could make the weight easy, and it would be an intriguing match-up. Lets see if Te Tumbo is as eager about that as he is about having Canelo go against the much smaller Cotto.

Posted September 30, 2013 3:04 pm

I’M SURE I saw interview with COTTO saying he’s comfortable at 154 and has no intention of boiling himself down to 147 ever again.

Cotto still a major challenge for anyone, saw him live in his first fight and have been a fan, but he should be content with what he has accomplished to this point and enjoy life with all his faculties intact, nevertheless i wish him well regardless how much longer he stays in the game

Viveck.. Cotto fights for Top Rank on HBO so him fighting Canelo isnt likely. Besides Cotto was obviously past it when he fought Clottey, Mayweather and Pacquiao

PEEJ stated, “In the Trout fight, Cotto just looked off”. I saw the same thing but figured it had to do with Trout’s height and reach advantage. Also, he failed to go to the body; perhaps due to the height and reach disadvantage or going to the body was not part of the plan.

I personally can’t give him and edge over Canelo for the reason that we don’t know much about Canelo. I expected Canelo to be out boxed by Floyd, but that’s the same expectation most of us have about any of Floyd’s opponents. At the same token, Canelo’s have been fed too many easy opponents, which leaves one wonder how he’ll react against top fighters.

Cotto can box and had some decent power and may provide Canelo some serious problem. But Canelo may very well be as good as many people think he is and may have too much power for Cotto. The Cotto of a few years back could take some punches and gave back lots of punishment in return, but time stops for no one and he surely is not the same fighter.

After his fight against Rodriguez we’ll have a better idea of how effective he’ll be against Canelo or even a rematch against Pac.

PEEJ

In the Trout fight, Cotto just looked off. Maybe over trained. He didn’t look shot or anything like that. One thing I have noticed from Cotto and this has been said before is his willing to take the pain. He used to walk right through you, but that could also be due to the fact that he is fighting much bigger people now. I am looking forward to this fight and hope Cotto looks good. But I also like Rodriguez so really I am just hoping for a good fight.

Posted September 30, 2013 12:16 pm

SREDMOND

The CONSTANT writing off of Cotto post Margarito has gotten to be VERY tiring… Truth is that Cotto has fought a KILLER schedule, Clottey, Pacquiao, Mayweather, Trout who is a BIG 154 pounder… I think Miguel still has some very good days left in boxing his ability to fight well with Mayweather says alot about his character and skillset…Obviously if he cannot get past Rodriguez with no issue then a revision might be due but losing to a PEAK Margo, Pacquiao, Mayweather and Trout does NOT brand him a bum or washed up in my mind…I would not be sure the current version of Pacquiao could beat the current version of Cotto…

Posted September 30, 2013 12:06 pm

Maracho

It seems like propaganda to claim that Canelo’s legacy is so utterly awesome but Chavez’s record is the most disgustingly padded in history; especially when Chavez has fought a bit more dangerous opponents than has Canelo.

Khan, Cotto, and Pac have both been on your proverbial “west=side” for some time now so lets be just and promote the truly deserving to fight Mayweather and/or someone on his undercard, which are none other than Molina and Lara.

Papo – the Fan Base of Canelo Mex and Cotto Puerto Rican alone will be enough to hit record PPV buys factor in the fact that true Boxing Fans know Cotto comes to fight in every fight that’ll bring in the true Boxing Fans.. the Question for me will be whether they allow Canelo to get away with cheating Weight Tricks or will they force him to stay within weight like Mayweather did… Cotto should fight the same Canelo Mayweather fought at 152lbs for there to be a fair comparison as to who fought Canelo better.. Floyd or Cotto..

VIVEK, KESSLER’S two-fisted barrages are not a thing of the past. He showed he could still punch quick, short and in target in spurts with COBRA and with menace. Kessler would stop Jnr as Kessler is actually the best banger of the three in him, COBRA and SOG.

Jnr. will not hear the final bell against any of the above and STIEGLITZ possesses far too quick hands for him and will outland him 3:1. His only chance is that STIEGLITZ can mark up in fights, but he goes for the full 36 minutes of a fight.

I would like to see Groves and Jnr going at it, even that idiot DEGALE would be favoured over Jnr.

Sad thing is if he could have only kept in shape for one more bout he would have had a massive all- Mexican bonanza vs SAUL Canelo ALVAREZ that would have generated millions. Sadly, Jnr has eaten himself out of not only a mega payday but a potentially winnable lottery ticket!!!!

What up Viv? This ya boy Calico…it’s bad that Khan can skip a fight that true boxing fans deem necessary for him to even be considered to get a shot at Money and a payday that big. However, of I’m team khan, it’s brilliant. The fact of the matter is we all know that not only is Alexander a tough opponent, he has the edge in this fight. If khan fights Alexander first, HE WILL NOT GET TO FIGHT FLOYD SECOND.

SO THIS IS THE BEST THAT BOXING HAS RIGHT NOW.

Cahvez Jr. popularity has to do more due to his name than to his accomplishment. However, he has the potential to be a decent fighter, but lacks the will to do what it takes to become great. He’s more concern about partying than about dedicating himself to boxing…I doubt he’ll ever amount to anything, at least in boxing.

Cotto will be facing Canelo next year; the question is whether or not there will be enough public interest to watch the fight. It should depend on how good or bad Cotto looks against Rodriguez. Although many boxing fans feel Cotto should retire, he may change their minds with a good show against Rodriguez. Also, due to Canelo’s less than impressive performance against Floyd, numerous fans may give Cotto the chance to beat him. We just have to wait for the result of Cotto-Rodriguez.

As for Khan, talks about him fighting Floyd may be nulled after the result of his fight against Alexander. He’s going to have his hands full and even if he wins, if it’s by a closed decision or if he gets knockdown, nobody would want to see him getting outbox and KO by Floyd. He doesn’t have the boxing skills, power or chin to keep Floyd away…it’ll be a huge mismatch.
