money rules every sport…every sport is a business…but, boxing is not fixed.
Scoring a fight is a subjective processPosted September 14, 2013 10:18 pm
It’s written in Mayweather’s contract that he cannot lose but Canelo gets a lovely big wad of cash in his back pocket and another shot at the title at a later date. It’s already been fixed ages ago. That’s big time boxing for you. It’s been going on for decades, money rules boxing, genuine results mean nothing.
Beltran v Burns. Beltran robbed.
Abril v Rios. Abril robbed even worse than Beltran. Abril won every round!
Just two that come to mind in recent times.
I’m sure there are many many more.Posted September 14, 2013 10:12 pm

WELL WE GET EARLY RESULTSPosted September 14, 2013 9:56 pm
yeah but khan can hit anyone, his speed is world class mattayse is slower and more predictable especially to a counter puncher like garcia. plus look at mattayses record it is typical south american great KO rate at regional level but not so great at world level and lets be straight mike dallas jr and lamon peterson without the steroid in his hip are not world levelPosted September 14, 2013 9:53 pm
Not in terms of power, Gray.
Khan is as skilled as it gets in terms of speed, volume and range…but no one can match the power of Matthysse in the divisionPosted September 14, 2013 9:43 pm
i know but i have to agree with angel garcia on this one i think amir khan was a much bigger risk than mattaysePosted September 14, 2013 9:41 pm

one thing is certain, Ricky fatton could drink Canelo under the table…and it wouldn’t be with Corona or dos equisPosted September 14, 2013 9:01 pm
Canelo has some good tools that could give Mayweather some problems. Floyd is just so good though. I want youth to win, to give us a change somewhat..I wont be too surprised either way..both men have their chances, its all about who forces their will on the other guy! Best of luck to both men and may God save the queen Obama!Posted September 14, 2013 8:56 pm
Lol I said that about Hatton tongue in cheek Joseph. Hatton couldn’t really manage Welter never mind 154. The Collazo fight took a lot out of Ricky, he was to small for 147. It was only his heart that got him through that fight.Posted September 14, 2013 8:54 pm
Is anyone picking Ishe Smith tonight?
It’s a shame these two guys have to fight each other…both guys have really been put through the boxing ringer as professionals.
I really like Carlos in this fight…he’s come up with a formula for success as a B side fighter. he out works all of his opponents while smothering their offense.
Check mate!!Posted September 14, 2013 8:52 pm
I’ll keep my eye’s peeled for him, lefhook…thanks for the insight.

great time to be a fight fan!!Posted September 14, 2013 8:50 pm
I understand what you’re saying…Hatton had a knack for smothering your offense and frustrating you to the point of doing something stupid.
I could see Hatton smothering canelo’s offense to the point of winning a UD in a mythical match-up.
canelo depends on hitting you from mid to long range…he likes to catch a fighter on the end of his shots.
Good point, GrayPosted September 14, 2013 8:48 pm
Joseph, Callum Smith Super middle. guaranteed world champ in the making. Was in Olympic squad. Best prospect in UK by a mile. Tall lad, great jab n murderous body puncher, works good inside for a tall guy. Serious talentPosted September 14, 2013 8:48 pm
cheers joseph thats the generally feeling for the fight, with hatton vs canelo im trying to put it on a pound for pound basis lets just say they were the same weight i dont think canelo could deal with the pressure of hattonPosted September 14, 2013 8:43 pm
LOL…maybe so, lefhook!!
BTW, 154 pound prospect Chris Pearson just KO’d Joshua Williams in one round…this kid is for real. Be on the look out for this kid Chris Pearson from Ohio!!
He is now 9-0 with 8 KOs!!Posted September 14, 2013 8:43 pm
Well Joseph, a prime Hatton would have made shorter work of his brother than Canelo did! just sayingPosted September 14, 2013 8:41 pm
Styles make Fights, Gray…Hatton’s best weight was 140 pounds.
Canelo is way too big for even a prime Ricky hatton!!
Ouch!!Posted September 14, 2013 8:38 pm
I genuinely feel that Canelo will learn a hard lesson about himself tonight…that he really needs to rethink his training regimen…he only works for a minute of every round because that’s how he trains.
You can’t train sporadically and hope to beat a real professional like Floyd Mayweather…Floyd MD 12 Canelo…CJ Ross will score the bout 114-114 when the other two judges will score the bout 116-112 for Floyd.
matthysse will expose a lot of deficiencies in Garcia’s defense tonight…Matthysse TKO5 GarciaPosted September 14, 2013 8:36 pm
quick question guys on a pound for pound – Ginge for ginge basis who would win between Hatton and canelo?Posted September 14, 2013 8:35 pm

I didn’t get a chance to make it out to Vegas this time, but have in past camps.
But my co-host on “The Pugilist KOrner’s: Weekend Wrap”, James Gogue is the only person on the face of the Earth who was able to be in both camps for an extended period of time.
I will post what he just stated on facebook.Posted September 14, 2013 8:28 pm
Ok Joseph, case in point regarding ref Kenny Bayless; two recent major FMJ fights that he refereed, and allowed excessive holding by Floyd, when Floyd was seriously hurt and/or getting the worse of an exchange, FMJ vs Mosley and De La Hoya. The holding in those two matches, and many of Mayweather’s fights, are blatantly illegal by the rules of boxing….Posted September 14, 2013 8:15 pm

Keep up the great work brother herronPosted September 14, 2013 8:12 pm
You could be right, Gray…but everyone who had a chance to see Floyd train throughout his open door training camp this time will say that it’s not likely that we see Floyd grow old in this fightPosted September 14, 2013 8:10 pm
Yup, david…but it’s the same thing in Football, Basketball, and baseball.
how many times have you seen bad calls directly decide the game winners?
All of the time…but boxing gets all of the complaints!!Posted September 14, 2013 7:42 pm
Maybe in any other sport, but the referee in boxing can sway a fight in many different ways, thus effecting the outcome. And a judge, well, just look at many past major fights where the scoring was totallly out of touch, too many to mention. These are major factors when it comes down to the final considerations of such a money match.
That aside, “Time goes by; reputation increases, ability declines.”

None of Canelo’s fans want to be reminded that canelo and his team are a bunch of bullies!!Posted September 14, 2013 7:23 pm
David: “Quikness not speed, and reflexes, will be a major factor in this fight!”
That’s right, david…it’s shocking how many supposed fight scribes can’t tell the difference.Posted September 14, 2013 7:22 pm
Remember what Alvarez did to Solis out in the street in Mexico broke his jaw pretty brave against an 108lbs fighter
Interesting points, David…and even more interesting prediction!!
I don’t like to harp on the referee or judges while I’m making my analysis…you can always factor that in to your prediction, but I don’t like to focus on the obvious human element in boxing.
it’s just like talking about the officiating in basketball when examining a Spurs/Heat match-up…doesn’t sound good!!Posted September 14, 2013 7:07 pm
The only way Canelo is going to lose is if this fight is a fix. Floyd and Oscar = king of PPV fixed fights!Posted September 14, 2013 7:04 pm
Oh yes, a few more points to ponder; 1) Canelo’s (23) youth and strength, is very mature inside the ring, his record of 42-0-1, embodies only fifty rounds less than FMJ’s (36), ring worn legs, record of 44-0… 2) and yes, that major factor in the “greatest sport of all”, Canelo’s ko % is ten percent higher than Floyd’s.
Quikness not speed, and reflexes, will be a major factor in this fight!Posted September 14, 2013 7:03 pm
GONZO OF NAZARETH
Canelo looks starved but he will be too much for floyd and it’ll end pretty quickly. Canelo is miles better than mayweather. I dont see this going past 4 rounds. Once again the greatest analyst since antiquity has made the correct prediction. I see no one better than myself in this game.Posted September 14, 2013 6:57 pm
Talk over. Canelo send this bum back to the docks.Posted September 14, 2013 6:56 pm
Boring fight!!!Posted September 14, 2013 6:42 pm
Joseph, well written….however, as always, somethings do get left out; FMJ will have two major advantages, while inside that ring, which Canelo will have no defense for, 1) referee, Kenney ” let him hold at all cost and never post a warning or deduct a point” Bayless 2) judge, Dave ” everytime Mayweather gets my score” Moretti. That said, otherwise, hopefully an awesome effort by both Champions.
My prediction: Canelo takes FMJ further out of his game, and makes Floyd come to him…and FMJ will reach and miss and be countered by quick hard hitting hands!Posted September 14, 2013 6:39 pm
Hecubus…LOL!!Posted September 14, 2013 6:28 pm
Do you guys think it’s too late to write something on Carlos? Probably, right?Posted September 14, 2013 6:27 pm

Floyd by TKO within 10 rounds. Canelo will only get better after this ass whooping he receives. Garcia by decision.Posted September 14, 2013 6:20 pm
Joseph Herron I’d have liked to see something on Molina. A pro’s pro who has gotten almost no ink in the leadup to this card. But that bout will likely be the stinker of the card due to Smith. Anyhow hope Molina wins, he deserves to be a champ.Posted September 14, 2013 6:17 pm

You guys hear there’s been multiple six figure bets placed at the MGM and they were all on Floyd? You know where the smart money’s going. Wish I could get Matthysse at a good price but he’s almost as big a fave as Floyd is.Posted September 14, 2013 6:15 pm
You guys are entertaining!!
On a more sobering note, I really feel like I dropped the ball on the fight coverage.
I should have written at least one article on a real class act like Carlos Molina or Ishe Smith regarding their IBF title fight.
Also, I should have written something on Ashley Theophane or Pablo Cesar Cano and their opening scrap.
What do you guys think?Posted September 14, 2013 6:14 pm
Floyd by UD, Matthysse by KO, Molina by narrow decision. Main even is somewhat simple. Unless Floyd’s slowed he’ll bank too many rounds. I hope Canelo comes out with guns blazing so he at least has a chance. Expect some mad fireworks in the co-main, unless Matthysse pulls out another surprising destruction. Molina will try to win Smith tries to put everyone including the judges to sleep.Posted September 14, 2013 6:13 pm

Mma fighter.., Canelo has bigger legs… a stronger base… a broader back… With them weighing in at almost the same weight, He’s not going to look a lot bigger at the weigh-in … cause he’s NOT bigger.
When he gets rid of that parched to death look, and gets some fluids and vibrancy back into his body, he’s going to look a lot bigger.Posted September 14, 2013 4:47 pm
Canelo looks like a skeleton. Another FMJ farce unable to compete on level terms. This is why FMJ will never go down as an ATG. He is useful for an easy payday and that is exactly what he gets used for. He gets to keep his ‘0’ and the delusion of greatness, others get a retirement plan knowing his feather fists can’t do any lasting damage. This is why every the whole world is laughing at FMJ and he doesn’t realise they are all laughing at him. FMJ W.UD.12Posted September 14, 2013 4:32 pm

I love Canelo but I am a Floyd Mayweather fan and Bieber fan that being said. You got to take you hat off to Canelo for making weight the first time on the scales not sure about the guy who was reading them . Canelo has done everything he has been asked to do. The sad thing is he is fighting a better fighter in every way in Floyd who will have Bieber on his side.I don’t care what he weighs tonight it wont matter his problem is going to be standing in front him. Floyd knows how to win these type of fights just like when he was a amateur he knew how to win and now he has a secret weapon – Bieber. This is going to be a boxing match because Floyd is going to set the pace and this is where Canelo will lose. I really see Canelo getting knocked out in the 10th round and then Floyd and Bieber will party.Posted September 14, 2013 4:02 pm

Canelo had dried saliva on the side of his lips, evidence he was seriously dehydrated at the weigh-in. Why? He could’ve said screw it, come in at 154, kept the belts if he won, and paid a fine like Floyd did with Marquez. The fine is far less significant than focusing half your camp on your weight and the weakness that comes with drying up.Posted September 14, 2013 3:48 pm

YouTube: Chingo Bling as CANELO ALVAREZ….. calls out Floyd Mayweather
Even at his biggest rehydration Canelo doe NOT KO live smaller opposition so lets ! He can punch hard but needs to set himself to do so and even then only does it in spurts – which is no good against Mayweather. Kid HAS to go for it early and needs a number of ‘landing combinations’ (unlikely) to KO PBF. To get remotely close to doing that he has to come in light.
A one punch KO simply goes against all evidence of Canelo’s power to date.Posted September 14, 2013 2:03 pm
That means a lot coming from you. Thanks for taking the time out to read and offer your thoughts!!Posted September 14, 2013 1:55 pm
Herron.., Yours is the best analysis I’ve read on this fight. The only things I would differ on: Floyd’s lead hook is a more important weapon for him than his check hook, and Canelo’s right uppercut is a very important weapon for him. Canelo’s ability to cut off the ring is going to be a big factor. His endurance and ability to win some late rounds, despite the weight making ordeal, will be a big factor.
A massive mistake I made in a historic fight was making a recklessly large bet on Hearns in his first fight with Leonard. I figured Tommy had the height, reach, range, and speed to outbox Leonard over the distance. Hearns came in only 2 pounds under the limit (at 145), but he looked unbelievably weak and skinny. My heart sank to the floor. To me, those 2 pounds seemed like 20 pounds. Sure enough, Tommy was winning on points when his gas tank ran bone dry. I believe the last 4 rounds of this fight will be critical.Posted September 14, 2013 1:52 pm

BUSTAJAY caneloPosted September 14, 2013 1:38 pm
Nice objective writing for a change.
Thanks, De Lima I.
I had better stop posting and finish it then!! lolPosted September 14, 2013 1:37 pm
What really impresses me about Canelo, is his iron will and unflappable mentality in and out of the ring.
it’s what separates him from previous opponents like Victor Ortiz and Zab Judah.
I think that variable alone makes this a more competitive bout than most realize.Posted September 14, 2013 1:36 pm
I hope Canelo can keep pace the full fight or let’s face it,he’s screwed.Posted September 14, 2013 1:36 pm
De Lima I.
Nice article! I can’t wait for the Matthysse/Garcia article!Posted September 14, 2013 1:35 pm
Yeah that is what makes it so great isn’t it, I agree with most that Money will likely win but let’s hope its a close fight and not a one sided affair, I think the Money man looks in supreme condition, Alvarez has a tough task.Posted September 14, 2013 1:34 pm
Yes…anything is possible in the ring.
My prediction was taken seriously this time, but still doesn’t mean anything. It’s merely an educated guess.
I think Canelo is taking this fight too soon and will frustrated and gassed by the fifth round.
Can he KO Floyd tonight and hand him his first defeat? Absolutely…will he? We don’t know. Anything can and often does in the theater of the unexpected!!Posted September 14, 2013 1:29 pm
You obviously don’t know mierda about boxing if that’s merely what you get out of this article.
First of all, the list of champions that Floyd defeated simply is what it is…a list of champions that he defeated. Please point out where I wrote that they were great victories.
Secondly, if you can’t identify the ring IQ and adaptability of the three fighters that I mentioned in the article, then you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about.
And thirdly, how do I sound like a fanboy in my analysis? You sound like a hater, brother…who doesn’t know mierda about boxing…especially if that’s all you get from my article.
Try again, brother!!Posted September 14, 2013 1:25 pm
If an Ageing Mosley can land on him then Canelo will too, then anything could happen.Posted September 14, 2013 1:21 pm
joseph herrron TONIGHT LUCUS ARGENTINA MATTHYSSEEPosted September 14, 2013 1:14 pm
I realized this was a BS article when he called LMW a talent-rich division, and I quit reading it entirely when he said that Andre Ward, Sergio Martinez, and Vitali Klitschko rivaled Mayweather’s ability to adapt. No one of those 3 fighters can hold Mayweather toilet paper in terms of ability to adapt. Ward has only his fear making the toughest fights in common with Mayweather. Sergio did not find his greatness until he was nearly burnt out, and Vitali missed his entire prime recovering from herniated discs in his back and chasing the Ukranian politics horse.
Carlos Hernandez, Jesus Chavez, Demarcus Corley, Carlos Baldomir, Genaro Hernandez, Victor Ortiz, and Robert Guerrero are all quality but not great wins by any stretch. These guys are all Blevel, tops. Gatti could be included in that list of Blevel guys, but he was a genuinely great fighter in terms of heart.
I’d almost say that this guy is a fanboy and DKSAB.Posted September 14, 2013 1:10 pm
