I saw/said the same thing. That stiff jab(by Liakhovich) did at the very least knock Wilder backwards and get his attention. He seemed to even pause for a second almost like he was thinking “did that just happen?”

Posted August 13, 2013 12:23 am

Wow your defence is as good as DWs Tark, doesn’t seem very convincing hahahaha. Better fighters will expose this guy badly, another Audley I’m afraid. He dealt with bums with ease same with this guy, you can have the best right hand in the business but if that’s all you got you’re in trouble son.

ТАRK, I’ tink Solis vs. Dеontау is good tеst for him аnd Аrrеolа

Posted August 12, 2013 3:46 am

Liakhovich is going to throw a jab at Wilder… What else is he going to throw? A jab is the safest punch there is.. Liakhovich actually landed a few left hooks to Helenius’s body and head … but practically nothing of value against Jennnings.

Herron tried to make fun of me for pointing out that Wilder threw 3 right hands in a row.. First one was a long range straight right… Second one a quick and deadly accurate right hook after he stepped in quickly and precisely… Third, another quick right hook as Liakhovich fell unconscious. He sarcastically called me a technical wizard for pointing that out … but how often do you see 3 effective right hands, one after another, score a brutal KO? Not often.

Posted August 12, 2013 12:53 am

elbilly….. “One of the few punches Liakhovich got to throw, a jab in about the first 10 seconds, sent Wilder staggering backwards”

That’s a joke right? … You’re going to get excited about a jab that almost lands cleanly and does no damage??? Liakhovich got to Wilder with NOTHING that staggered or even jarred him.

A jab to get excited about was the perfectly timed one Cotto decked Clottey with… Or a few sharp ones that Cotto landed on Floyd Mayweather’s nose…that forced Roger to break out the giant Q-Tips.

Did anyone notice that one of the few punches Liakhovich got to throw, a jab in about the first 10 seconds, sent Wilder staggering backwards, a jab, and it didn’t look like a very good one either. I hate that so many people are getting so carried away with this guy, as for GBP taking it slowly to step up competition, how slow do you want? 29 fights?? That’s some guys careers, David Haye has fought what 32 fights (not sure of exact numbers) and had how many title fights? GBP know this guy us suspect from what they’ve seen in the gym and are clearly milking this cash cow for as long as possible. DW will not be HWWC.

You’re a stone face liar for implying that I ever said such a thing.. Quote me accurately or don’t quote me at all..

Wilder could take Chisora no problem.. That’s what I said.. You can tell from Deontay’s body of work that he’s better then Dereck.. That is, if you know anything about Boxing.

Chisora has a lot of rounds vs top boxers… But they’re losing rounds.. OK, he did beat Helenius and was robbed blind.. Helenius seemed to dig a hole and crawl in it after that fight.

Wilder murders Chisora. Just too good a boxer-puncher for him. I’m not on his nut sack … and I’m not saying he would beat Haye or the K Bros right now.

Don’t be ridiculous. I’m not putting Wilder on a pedestal by saying he would beat Chisora. A lot of heavyweights beat Chisora.

I’m sorry if I misunderstood what you wrote…with all sincerity and no offense intended, is English a second language? Because I don’t think I understood your previous post directed to me, and I definitely don’t understand this one.

i don’t agree that the Klitschko’s were brought up slowly…at least not for today’s standards. If you look at how long Deontay Wilder has been a professional in comparison, 4 1/2 years, Wladimir and Vitali were already world champions just four years into their professional campaigns.

Anyway, I don’t ever intend on debating anyone on the comment board, because it’s not very fair. I’m a writer and boxing insider…I just like to talk about boxing. For some reason, certain people on this forum like to start s#@t and that’s okay.

If I put forth an opinion, it’s game on I suppose. But sometimes and very often I try to be informative and I get called out on it, like it’s up for debate…can’t understand some people…oh well.

If I offended you with my previous post, my apologies, brother!!

urine2 Wlad runs from guys? You moron.

Real mature comment. Must be really bright guy, actually watch the way he fights he uses his height and long arms more than slipping punches to get fighter to reach so that he can catch them with his right. In order for that to work he runs out of range then tries to time his opponent coming in. Sorry, I like alittle more of the sweet science applied you know the stuff feints, slipping, a few counters. What Wlad does is really effective, but I have a hard time trying to appreciate it.

Posted August 10, 2013 8:39 pm

Joseph Herron,

I have to call you out again, as it seemed you agree that the Klitchos were moved along slowly that was my point and when Tyson, holyfield, Lewis, Ruddock and others had moved on they made their move on the division. Read what I wrote try not to read enything else into it. As for me doing home work, I’m pretty sure Wilder has many wholes in his armor that is the reason for bringing him along slowly. Yeah in my opinion it to build his popularity to capitalize on a big payday. Make him look better than what he really is.

Joseph Herron I think you are just a bit to full of yourself I see a normal debate is out of the question with you so I will not try to start another debate with you because yours is to try an insult and belittle instead of a nice heated debate. So have fun …….

Proud African- you sir are HILARIOUS! You said wilder is the hardest puncher in boxing and all the top boxers are avoiding him. I have two questions for your brilliant mind….

1) which of any of those sub-bum fighters that Wilder has fought are “known” for their absolutely flawless, granite beard(s)? I mean, for him to be the hardest puncher he will have had to rock te hardests of chins to get that title, correct?

2) let’s review the last part of your comment(“all the top level fighters are avoiding him”)to see if their is any sense to be found in it…

He has fought nobody, has no major belt, and if all the top heavies are avoiding him, he seems to be able to find bums to fight him rather quite easily. So either bums have more guts or you’re full of fecal matter.

Fight Aficionado

Great KO for the TV viewers. Not such a great KO to fans in the know, who are aware Sergei has been stopped in 3 of his last 6, hasn’t been a legit top 10 contender in a decade and whose punch resistance has reached 0. Still, if GBP follows this up with some real top 30 comp they’ll have the hype they’ve been seeking. BTW 8 posts in 1 week is posting too many comments eh ESB? OK I am out. FU.

Posted August 10, 2013 2:03 pm

Carl Pratt

Before Sergei got iced, he was getting the left jab and the left hook in there and popping Wildmans head back. Wildman can be hit, and if you avoid his bullrush you can TKO him. He is a Flash in the Pan. That is a little colonial flintlock lingo for you tards that think you are geniuses.

Posted August 10, 2013 12:14 pm

Carl Pratt

I think Arreola, Pulev, Wlad, all beat Wildman. Especially Wlad, because a Gold Medalist always defeats a Bronze medalist. The Gold Medalist has a better mindset than the Bronze. Pulev has the chin and the resolve to take Wildman. And beseides we do not know what Wildman can do after 5 rounds. He may be a complete DUD after 4 or 5. A DUD!!! Right now he is a hype job with a good KO record. I see spelling it a D.U. D. !! He reminds me of a Mitch Green, where a tough Tyson would kick his ass. This DUD has not been tested and USA Fans are creaming there jeans, especially that twerp Broner. And believe me Broner is a little twerp. Arreola KOs Wildman. So does Wlad, maybe even Haye. After the Bull Rush of Wildman, he ain’t nuthing. A gas out DUD. That is my prediction, a gassed out DUD. Fury would give him a scrap. A test. This DUD has not had a test yet. He may be a flash in the pan like Price was. Put him in with somebody, please.

Posted August 10, 2013 12:09 pm

PocCиЯ True, Deontay,s current chin has not been tested, critic cite Harold Scrivens dropping Wilder, and I would be concerned if Scrivens dropped Wilder in a recent fight……….but Deontay got dropped when he had only 12 pro fights so I no longer think the Scrivens fight too relevant.
From what I have seen of Wilder, it’s his speed that catch most of his recent opponents out………they don’t see the punch coming.
If you are going to beat Wilder, I think you need to be very mobile like Haye.
You also need to be a fast puncher to beat Deontay to the punch, guys like Wach and Ustinov wouldn’t stand a chance, Pulev is quicker than those 2 but Pulev would need to land regularly and wear down Wilder.
So yes the jury is STILL out on Wilder……..but Wilder’s speed and power would beat quite a number of the other “contenders” out their……Wach, Ustinov, Fury, Mitchell spring to mind.

Posted August 10, 2013 11:04 am

Wilder’s competitors really are getting tougher and tougher each time. I’ve heard the buzz that the next one is going to be Lamon Brewster himself.

Posted August 10, 2013 11:03 am

Arreola would beat him, probably with a left hook, Wilder is wide open.

Posted August 10, 2013 10:34 am

Lenin, I hear what you say and I agree that Wilder shouldn’t be discussed as the next Ali ………or even talked about yet as fighting a K brother.
You also make valid points regarding Liahkovich, but that said Liahkovich WAS a step up, granted not a massive one……..but a step up in the right direction. Now we all know that Liahkovich was past his peak, but none of the guys he has lost to managed to get rid of him THAT quickly…….and let’s face it it’s not as if Liahkovich came in out of shape for the fight.
Lenin however poor you think Liahkovich was as an opponent, will you concede at least that Wilder is very fast puncher compared other contenders in the division…….allied with his undoubted power Wilder makes for an exciting prospect.

Posted August 10, 2013 10:30 am

PocCиЯ Wach is far too slow and big a target to get off his punches in time before Wilder lands his bombs………an easy win for Wilder against Wach………and forget Tua vs Ustinov………Wilder would blast out Ustinov very quickly.

Posted August 10, 2013 10:19 am

Anonymouse, true Harold Sconiers did drop Wilder , but that was back when Wilder was a 12 fight novice and very green, Wilder’s obviously learnt from that fight…….so I’m not sure that the Sconier’s argument is too relevant now as Wilder has come on since then.

Deontay Wilder can hit hard, but he’s still untested, and Sergei Liakhovich needs to retire.

Posted August 10, 2013 9:29 am

Wow. Just wow. Everybody is talking about Wilder like he’s next Ali. Wake up, guys! He just won against a guy who has now lost 5 out of his last 7 fights! And Liakhovich did not even fight one bout per year in the last 7 years. Time to start your brains again. Wilder needs to fight live and game competition. He remains unproven.

Posted August 10, 2013 9:20 am

Joseph Herron

You have no idea what you’re talking about if you think Wlad never fought stiff competition as a young fighter.

First of all, the Gold Medal winner had many more amateur bouts than Deontay Wilder. Also, Deontay has yet to fight a durable puncher like Ross Purity or a fringe contender like Axel Schultz thus far on his way up.

Furthermore, I highly doubt that Deontay’s handlers would have the guts to stick him in the ring with an avoided fighter like Corrie Sanders. Ask yourself, why is Golden Boy taking their time with Wilder? They’re dragging their feet a lot slower than universum did with Klitschko.

Do your homework before calling me out, brother!!

Posted August 10, 2013 6:39 am

Wach chin isn’t going to save him from Wilder’s right hand if keeps landing like Wlad’s did, he will eventually be overwhelmed. I’d be more concerned about Wilder’s stamina, particularly his chin. Wilder KOs Wach early imo for speed, power and athletism but if it goes beyond 6 rounds Wilder would be in uncharted waters and the outcome could be anyone’s guess.

Posted August 10, 2013 5:59 am

I would love Wach-Wilder… If Deontay detroys Wach, you know he’s ready for prime time.. Wach is taller with the same reach I believe.. He also has a chin like a slab of steel.

Posted August 10, 2013 4:47 am

ТАRK, whаt аbout Wаch-wildеr?/or pulеv-Wildеr?

Posted August 10, 2013 4:29 am

Herron…., “We have no idea how Deontay will react under the effective pressure that Chisora will place on him from start to finish.”

Yes we do… Chisora’s pressure wouldn’t be effective. Chisora would get knocked stiff.. Chisora is almost as wide open as Liakhovich.. His chin is not as shot so he would absorb a few more punches, but we saw from the Haye fight how easy he is to blast and that he gets beaten down by a great puncher. Wilder is another great hitter like Haye.

As far as Wilder’s defense is concerned, He doesn’t get hit very much in sparring, even with Wladimir… His reach is unreal and his jab is a pole ax… Liakhovich was a horribly inept opponent, but DW did show how quickly he can close the gap and whip a devastating right hook to the ear around Liakhovich’s guard. A young Liakhovich connected repeatedly with hard shots to brawlers like Brewster, but couldn’t reach Wilder with anything.

Wilder isn’t just a puncher… He’s a boxer-puncher… One thing big punchers don’t necessarily do very well early in their careers is clinch. Until they meet somebody on their own level they don’t have to. But that’s not Chisora. Or Arreola either. Arreola takes a horrific beating from Wilder as well. Wilder is a lot better than pedestrian Stiverne.

A guy who was coming off back to back knockout losses and still a step up for Wilder, I’m sick of the hype surrounding this guy, he was knocked down by Wlad in sparring. It’s rare to see a fighter moved so slowly.

Аdаm Ruiz will bеаt Dеontау?

Posted August 10, 2013 3:50 am

I think You are wrong as long as Golden Boy slowly step up the competition Wilder will be alright. They can bring him along slowly and not put him in too tough too early he should come out just fine. He can do just as the Klitzcho did and wait for all of the tough competition to get old before stepping up. Or, win a freign title and fight weak competition as Wlad did early on. I can’t beat up on Vitali because in my mind he was willing to fight all comer at one point in his career, but Wlad I have issues with. Wlad in my opinion runs from fighters to make them reach, just shows you how brillent Steward was. He knew that glass wouldn’t how up, so he gave him a style that would keep him from being hit. Wlad doesn’t slip punches he literaly runs.

Call me crazy but I believe Wilder has enough power to knock out Fury and Arreola both within 4 rounds

There was an excerpt from an interview in which Wladimir bascially admitted to being afraid of Wilder’s power. They have sparred together in the past.

Malik can’t crack an egg and he hit Chisora at will since Chisora is hittable. Wilder knocking Chisora out is a highly probable outcome if you don’t think it’s a fact.

Posted August 10, 2013 2:38 am

Joseph Herron

That’s a fact, huh Punch?

We have no idea how Deontay will react under the effective pressure that Chisora will place on him from start to finish.

He could handle it like David Haye and knock-out the mad Londoner, or he could fold under the pressure like Malik Scott. We have no idea of knowing because we have yet to see anyone take Deontay into deep waters.

That’s not Deontay’s fault though. He is merely doing his job of knocking out whatever opposition Golden Boy places in front of him.

In my opinion, GBP is doing their star Heavyweight a grave injustice by not sticking him in with fighters who can take the hard punching Heavyweight into the later rounds. Unless he’s nurtured with a little more tact, he’s going to have serious trouble against the division’s elite.

Posted August 10, 2013 2:29 am

Wilder will destroy Chisora and that’s a fact. Vk should stay away from him cause he’s already lost some steps. Wlad is the only heavyweight I’m sure could handle him others are a toss-up due to Wilder sheer power and athletism. I’d like to see Wilder get hit flush on the chin and I wouldn’t be surprise if his chin does hold up.

Posted August 10, 2013 2:18 am

Wow the Bronze Bomber reminds me of the Brockton Blockbuster. Few amateur fights, humble, strong work ethic, and turned to boxing out of some unfortunate survival circumstances.

Posted August 10, 2013 2:14 am

Just for fun I’d like to Wlad get knocked out like that, twitching all over the canvas:-) Wilder has got some scary power. I’d be concerned if I were any heavyweight without a decent defence or chin. Time for Wilder to step up big time.

Posted August 10, 2013 2:11 am

Well I thought the fight would at least go past the first. Fairly impressive record even though the competition isn’t that great. He’s a money maker to fight now and anyone who beats him will be THE MAN. So he won’t be avoided
much. So are his legal problems over? Fight Chisora after all? Fres Oquendo might want a last chance to gain a title shot by beating Wilder. There’s probably a lot of fighters looking to gain a reputation by beating Wilder.

Posted August 10, 2013 2:11 am

On top of that Wilder has never even faced a contender or went past four rounds in his career and you guys are saying the Klitchkos are in trouble.Do you hear yourselves?

Leknehelad, Pulev is solid performer, but just doesn’t have the punching power to frighten the bigger guys I feel.
Dimentrenko managed to land good shots on Pulev……..and even the slow lumbering Ustinov landed at least 2 good shots on Pulev.
Wilder seems so much faster than either of those 2 so I’m not sure Pulev could beat Wilder……at least not very easily.

Helenius & Jennings had to go 8/9 rounds respectively with Liahkovich, Wilder was fast accurate and hard tonight……..but STILL gets little to no credit from some. Many higher rated heavyweights would have had trouble with Wilder’s speed and power.
Everyone talks of Wilder’s power……..but his speed is something special for such a big man……. and no wild swings tonight, he is learning well.
Well done Deontay……….it won’t be too long before we now see Wilder in with a a top 15 fighter…….

Here’s MY question: What’s Wilder going to do when he gets NAILED with one of Arreola’s shots if they fight? It’s not like Wilder’s chin has been tested yet. He crushed a shot fighter who was never stellar to begin with.

Old School Rules

Liakhovich is obviously washed up, but he was just as washed up against Jennings last year and still went 9 rounds without getting knocked down. I don’t like Wilder but I think its obvious at this point that he is a top 10 HW. I don’t see anyone beating him besides the Klits, Haye, Pulev, and maybe Helenius. Adamek certainly wouldn’t fare much better than Sergei and he’s rated in the top 5. His next fight should be Tony Thompson. He just beat Price 2x so we know hes a live opponent at least

Well he stepped it up finally and Koed Sergi in one round. This is exactly what happened to price. Wilder needs a challenge, in fact he needs several real tests before meeting wlad. It’s great that he can land massive rights but what happens when he is unable to do so. What happens when he is under pressure. There still are many question marks but a good win. Would like to see how he handles Lucas browne or the winner or Thompson vs Ustinov.

The former post is very correct……Gold Beats Bronze every time.

Wilder did what he was expected to do. Destroy a shot fighter! Now his next fight must be against a top 10 guy in order to gain legitimacy! Great k.o. now its time to k.o a top 10 guy! Can he? Lets see!

I said this fight was a farce. Liakhovich should have retired years ago.

Deontay Wilder, the hardest puncher in boxing. All the top boxers are avoiding him.

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

Wow, what a surprise! Wilder KO’d the old, washed-up Liakhovich. Now let’s see Wilder fight a REAL contender for once in his life.

Oh I forgot… he’s waiting for the Klitschkos to retire before making any moves.

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

Who would want to have paid money for that?? I think most knew something like this would happen.

Deontay has knocked out Liakovich. The Klits are in trouble.

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

…..and that’s that. Wilder 1 round KO. Liakhovich looked disintersted walking to the ring. Still the jury is out about Wilder. Definitely has awesome 1 punch power but we don’t really know anything else about him yet.

Hey, That’s my Bike!!!

I liked the look of that Jermall Charlo. Might start following his career. He looks like a kid that listens to his corner and is very serious about the discipline side of boxing. Just need to wait until he fights against some pressure until we see what he is made of.
