Hecdog, Good observations champ. It is ayoung mans game. As a result it should primarily be all about the body. Even if he hits elbows and arms, hips etc.., he must set the tone of this bout right away. Make those 36 year old legs and lungs WORK. After looking at how Mayweather has slowed down, Canelo needs to taje him out lf his comfort zone. Yes, he better have a tank full of gas in order to implement this strategy. Marciano and Julio Cesar Chavez were the consumate models of the art of the body punch. It pays off in BIG dividends towards the end. It CAN be done. Let’s see if young Canelo can make it a reality in the ring. Good write up Hecdog. Peace and strength.Posted June 22, 2013 11:36 pm
Seth Mitchell Sucks
REDMOND will be in here soon to defend tix prices and call everyone who complains about them “poor” and “working class” and “Pay your $70 and keep moving.” Then come fight night, he will be watching on his couch with the rest of the “poor working class” just as he was for FMJ-Guerrero.Posted June 22, 2013 11:18 pm
Ticket prices are ridiculous. Canelo is young , strong and has a strong will to win, but the only way he wins this fight is if he has a super extraordinary performance and has a full gas tank. He has to be able to apply pressure from the get go, and hit that body, arms, hip and everything else he can hit. This is a young man’s game, and Canelo is the young man. He doesn’t have the experience, which will probably make the difference in this fight unless he can fight an in your face fight at a fast pace. Floyd has never and will never fight full rounds. You have to be relentless like a young Chavez Sr or a Roberto Duran. Castillo already proved that. Floyd’s style of countering allows him to rest and fight at his pace , which is slow. He starts throwing more as he gets his opponents timing down, and they slow down. Canelo should have no problem taking Floyd’s punches because he doesn’t have much power and is usually stops his opponents only when they have tired out, given up or gets desperate. Floyd has to be made to fight at a fast, young man’s pace. Canelo has to have the conditioning, confidence and be able to fight a close range pressure fight. We all saw how Floyd panics when things to go his way. Cotto had him cared, and bloodied, and Floyd didn’t like that at all that’s why he wanted no part of infighting with Guerrero. He resorted to his hit once or twice, hold, hug and run. He’s not a real fighter, and canelo has to make him fight. He’s the bigger, stronger and younger fighter. He has the opportunity right in front of him. Can he handle the big fight pressure? Can he fight an in your face fight? Does he have the stamina to fight three minutes of each round a la a prime Duran & Chavez Sr. Floyd will feel Canelo’s power and wear down if Canelo can fight this style fight. Floyd”s age will show if he’s made to fight instead of wait and move all night. Pressure, pressure and pressure is the key. Not pressure from smaller older guys he’s fight, but from a young, strong hungry kid that is carrying the Country of Mexico on his back, which may just be enough to earn him a win. All the questions still remain for Canelo, he’s going to have to answer them.Posted June 22, 2013 8:09 pm
Canelo will get schoolefPosted June 22, 2013 4:08 pm
I definetly think canelo should go for the glory and disregard the money. Canelo needs to come in comfortable if that means weighing more like 154 than do it. But mayweather could refuse to fight. If in heavier only results in the loss of money hell yeah, canelo should do to may, what may did to jmm. Keys to victory for canelo are gonna be expanding on what cotto did. Canelos speed is right there with floyds. Keep the pressure up and the guard up and canelo will need to get floyd stationary somehow like cotto got him and then ligt him up with his SAVAGE punches. If floyd runs from canelo he will loose ifits a scored fight. Mays not gonna be able to punch canelo and not be punched himself. Anyone thinking that is delusional. Floyds gonna get jacked. Its inevitable. How much/often and how he takes the punches arethe only questions. All I know it better not come down to bs judging and floyd getting a decison when he lost. Its about time some legal and ethical authority look into bogus judging. Stuff needs cleaned up now. I will be mad as hell if we get crooked scores. But I think canelo will be going all out full bore to stop may. I think we will see the absolute beastliest canelo we have ever seen. I think he might stop floyd. I got canelo winning FOR SUREPosted June 22, 2013 3:34 pm
This will probably be Floyd’s toughest fight… I rank Mikey Garcia ahead of Canelo as a boxer, puncher, and technician — but Canelo is up there. Saul can box, punch, absorb a punch, counterpunch, move well, move his head and defend well, has quick hands and feet, and is mentally very strong. No other Floyd opponent had his range of assets.
Coming in at 152 will be a huge problem for Canelo, because he’s a growing kid, and last time the had to dehydrate and rehydrate 18 pounds to make 154. Some people claimed he was exhausted from the ordeal and fought at a snail’s pace during the entire fight. I’m not sure that’s an appropriate assessment. He fought a very controlled and very smart fight. He certainly needed to test his defensive skills against a slick, young, strong, world class boxer ahead of a Floyd fight.
He may have to pay a fine, of say about 600,000 dollars … for being 2 pounds overweight… That’s a contract violation and nothing more… He’ll still be able to retain his title if he wins.
“Floyd came in heavy … Mikey came in heavy… Why not me?”Posted June 22, 2013 2:03 pm
Yea in the fact that this is Floyds second fight in 4 months gives us an idea of how honed his skills will be. He hasn’t had back to back fights since his prime years, imo this is really the old Floyd we’re seeing. Back then Floyd had so many punches and weaves in his arsenal it was ridiculous..Posted June 22, 2013 12:09 pm
Rapido, hey.. I didn’t say you gave Canelo too much of a chance. I’m just saying it’s not based on anything beyond the extreme size difference, when you really get down to the meat of the thing. If they were the same size, this fight wouldn’t be more interesting than his bout with Cotto. Alas they aren’t the same size, nor approaching being close to being the same size, and I don’t doubt that it will help Canelo in that bout.Posted June 22, 2013 11:54 am
LMAO yea u right I probably did give Canelo too much of a chance. He shows no versatility with his outside or in game. I see a few grazing shots from Canelo but that’s about it Mayweather takes over with his foot speedPosted June 22, 2013 11:47 am
@ bear – canelo will fight a good fight and will lose and here is why.
Zab had a decent first 4 rounds, and didn’t even win all those 4 rounds, they were just not run away rounds. Judah was figured out from the beginning, the body attacks and pressure was breaking him down from the opening bell to the point where the casuals noticed it. I challenge you to go watch that fight again right now. I would say without the bias commentating from the envious Lewis and company… but don’t do that… you won’t hear those thudding body shots Floyd was landing. That was a mismatch. Judah’s mild “success” if you can call it that, was due to being FASTER and hitting harder than FMJ. Canelo’s avangtage is being a super middleweight fighting a small WW. Now don’t push it.Posted June 22, 2013 11:23 am
I say Canelo fights fire with fire counter punch Mayweather. Zab Judah seemed to have the most success until Mayweather figured him out. Get up stamina n dont get one dimensional keep Floyd guess that’s how u beat himPosted June 22, 2013 11:18 am
I have to wonder if Canelo will even be able to make this a competitive fight. Other than likely being 20 pounds heavier fight night and 13-14 years younger, I can’t see any advantage that Canelo brings to the fight.Posted June 22, 2013 11:17 am
Canelo needs more than power or speed to beat Mayweather PLUS headmovement n footwork. Floyd jus needs to box and put on pressure towards the end like he did Mosley. Floyd by 11 round TKO or UD Cause of Canelo’s staminaPosted June 22, 2013 11:13 am
All the celebrities will be there–more to be seen than to watch the fight. $2K for a ticket is ridiculous. $350 for the nosebleed seats even more so. Watching a top live boxing event has become nearly inaccessible for the average person. Too bad. It’s the greatest sport around.Posted June 22, 2013 8:46 am
Who cares I hope they both get beat up …Posted June 22, 2013 7:37 am
Bears – you really need to go to sleep. Canelo is the LHW fighting a WW, whose being protected.Posted June 22, 2013 3:54 am
Goldon boy is no longer protecting floyd.Posted June 22, 2013 3:47 am
Steward did comment on canelo in canelo vs mosely. Man……I miss steward. Definetly the most insightful personality in the world about boxing when it comes to analyzing. Nobody else compares in any country. If you know boxing you know what steward said was gold. At least he had the least margin for erro of all analysts/coaches. I hope we get something close to teward again but I fear we won’t. We have fred roach …..dan rafaels doin a good job…….this showtime crew though damn…………we need guys like me in there analyzing.Posted June 22, 2013 3:07 am
Naw…….I’m about to watch canelo vs trout again………canelo vs lopez interviews over now……canelo is such a beast. ……ya know ref joe cortex is one of my fav refs….him ad jay nady……..god dude canelo is such a beast an fast as hell. Mayweathrs gonna get jacked up…..think about it…..for may to strike he has to be in canelos striking range. There’s no way floyd can hit canelo and notbe hit. This will be too brital for floyd. I don’t even think floyd will show. It will be some injury in camp. You heard it here firstPosted June 22, 2013 3:02 am
Honestly, right now, canelo is sooooo beastly I wouldn’t doubt something happens in floyds camp and he calls this fight off. And it was all planned to buy floyd some time off and punish canelo. I hope that’s not the case but I can totally see it coming. Canelos just too super beast. I know floyds camp knows this. U watch lopez u watch trout, u know canelos fast as hell and too powerful. I bet floyd bows out of this in some way shape or form. If not, canelo beats floydPosted June 22, 2013 2:38 am
Prediction: I got canelo beating floyd. First time I I have a flowd opponent taking the w. But I wanna ask this. What do you all think the kys to victory are for each fighter? Its important to ask this now before others start popping up with their keys. I will tell you mine when I hear from you people. I know my fellow east siders my fellow boxing fans have an idea so I wanna hear it. Let’s talk about keys to victory for canelo and floydPosted June 22, 2013 2:29 am
Canelo looks like a mexican fire headed version of mat hughes does he not??!.!Posted June 22, 2013 2:22 am
Watching canelo vs lopez again. I like to watch tape multiple times. Have to. U always see new stuff. Next is trout. Canelo! What a beast. I’ve said it multiple times now. Canelo is one of my fav fighters. One of the most exciting boxers in boxing right now. Love canelo. BADASS! I hope he knows good english for the end of the myweather fightPosted June 22, 2013 2:13 am
Canelo is fighting so this should be a……… sellout! Got to agree with elmatador though, limit of of 2 for the $350 seats is just plain retarded. Those sections are we’re its usually people come with families or your loud ass friends.Posted June 22, 2013 1:51 am
