Hidalgo: That’s correct. The Krusher is now Popkin’s mandatory challenger to his IBF title. But evidently, Cleverly is seriously considering giving Kova a shot at his title.
The ball is in B-Hop’s court, so we’ll see what he does. One thing is for sure: SK is about ready to get a title fight at 175lbs. And Adonis just became the owner of the most important accolades at Light HW. This division is finally starting to get exciting again.

Ok. what did I miss? I thought Kovalev was Hopkins’ mandatory?

“Everyone currently is saying Kovalev is a beast, the hottest prospect in boxing etc. Watch the same people call him a hype job if Cleverly beats him.” – True. The bandwagon would empty quickly if that happened but I don’t believe it will.

double jab

Frochy is scared of Clev – won’t go up to fight him and doesn’t want Clevery to come down to a catchweight either

Cleverly is a strap holder offering Froch a opportuity to become 2 weight World Champ.

What did Froch offer Calzaghe a step back to the British Champion, big difference in who’d earned a shot.

this russian will fight hopkins and cleverly will defend aganist another bum. for the millionth time cleverly will only get the big fight as a mandatory he needs to drop the wbo belt. meanwhile he will contiune to call out froch which will never happen for the exact same reason his mate calzaghe never gave a shot to froch,- because he hadn’t earned it!!!!!

Just watched the interview – Cleverly is right.

Everyone currently is saying Kovalev is a beast, the hottest prospect in boxing etc. Watch the same people call him a hype job if Cleverly beats him.

Make your mind up and now and give the kid his props if he beats him. I give him props for wanting to fight him full stop/period, coz no other fighter seems to want to.

Clev’s up for fighting anyone I’ll give him his due’s. He was nailed on to fight Kovalev until Murat visa got turned down and Kov became mandatory.

Can’t blame Kov if he decides on Hopkins but I’d rather see this fight.

Clev will box and feel his power out – he’s not stupid but he’s bound to engage with him at some point.

Clev UD.

Hype Train

Cleverly is a name dropper who goes on to fight average bodies to protect and cover up his many flaws. No way he sees the final bell against Stevenson or Kovalev. Anyone who knows anything can see that Cleverly low hand, showboating, wannabe tough guy style is tailor made for big hitters with basic boxing skills. Kovalev has a lot better than basic boxing skills.

It’s more a matter of anyone decent fighting Cleverly… He’ll fight Stevenson if he gets a chance. That’s the next LHW matchup I want to see.

Watching some of both Cleverly’s and Kovalev’s fights, it’s not difficult to lean toward another win by the heavy handed Russian. Still, I think there’s something to the Calzaghe/Lacey analogy mentioned by promoter Warren, when the favored knockout artist suffered the upset loss by the crafty Welshman. If this fight happens, the question in my mind is can the superbly conditioned Cleverly get by Kovalev’s early rounds onslaught and take him into the middle/late rounds where the advantage could shift to the Welhman? Not predicting that will necessarily be the case, but you never really know about such things and that’s what makes boxing such a fascinating game

Macklin fighting Golovkin, Cleverly vs Kovalev – British fighters fighting guys that people say everyone else in their division is avoiding

Cleverly will NEVER fight anyone decent, always a reason for not fighting this guy or that guy. What a sorry couple these two have become.

Massive fight… Love it.

Well either Kovalev gets BHOP for the IBF title or fights for the vacant title if Bhop refuses to make his mandatory. So maybe he’d go for Cleverly if he can get the shot sooner.

Cleverly can win this one but he must not make it a brawl because he will certainly get KO’d

“Kovalev gases.” That’s a good one. Kovalev beat Roman Simakov to death, but he’s going to gas against Nathan Cleverly? Dream on.

prop’s to cleverly for fighting kovalev. i read where popkin’s is looking at a new career in media

He’ll put Kovalev to the test. Survive the first five rounds, Clev, and Kovalev most likely gases. Would be a great fight!

Squared-Circle (a.k.a. LionKing)

Bring it don’t sing it, Cleverly!

You can find a pretty good highlight reel of Kova on YouTube and a few articles about him on other boxing sites. There’s a really good one about SK on Boxing Scene dot com.

The title is “Sergey Kovalev Discusses Simakov: Forgive Me, Roman”

Anyone have any info more than BoxRec provides on this Russian Cat ? I wasn’t too sold on Corny White anyway . And why is Enzo still boxing after all those KO’s suffered ? Didn’t he retire ?
