If anyone had any doubts about the first fight, the second lay all those doubts to rest and rightfully so, so only 8ters are holding on to the first fight when the second made it clear who was and still is the better fighter. Some fans are real dumb, like with Cotto who because he gave Floyd a bloody nose think the fight was close when Cotto would be lucky if he won more than 2 rounds in that fight. In a way they’re confirming the man’s greatness but hell who cares, the books matter and UD is the decision.

Problem with Floyd is he overwhelms his best competition and makes it look easy. In the first fight with Castillo it was the first time I felt Floyd was not beating his opponent completely but no doubt he won a close fight. I also felt he gave ODH too much respect.

PEEJ, I just read your comment….Spot on brother…. bouts are scored round by round, as they should be and not on an overall viewpoint!

Posted June 19, 2013 3:15 am

TJ

PROUD AFRICAN, I agree wholeheartedly with you re COMPUBOX…. I recorded blow-by-blows in bouts for a few years in the 80’s and I realsed it was best to do this with the commentator’s voices turned down as punches they thought had landed, hadn’t and some of those they thought were blocked were not.

I did this for a few years, well before I’d even heard of Compubox….. I only recorded those effective blows and not the pitty-pat type of punches we see thrown by the likes of Joe Calzaghe and Sugar Shane.

The scoring blows had to be delivered correctly, on target and had to be effective – no taps or slaps!

The power shots is very misleading as some of these are just taps, such as those landed in the midst of clinches where a fighter attempts to appear to be busy – ie Joe Calzaghe vs Bernard Hopkins, and in my view should not be scored.

All-in-all, I do not trust Compubox per-se, as one man can win 2 rounds in a 10 rounder landing 50 shots in each and lose the other 8 rounds where his opponent only lands 6 or 7 blows in each, which wuill give the impression that the loser was the busier and more effective man if you by by the way of so-called punches landed…

Look at Rigondeaux vs The Filipino Flash, who to many appeared to be the busier fighter!

He may have been busier, but less effective than the Cuban!

lederman disagrees and he has more credibility than anonymous clowns posting on a boxing forum.

Posted June 19, 2013 2:36 am

PEEJ

Exactly compubox is not reliable. I hate when people try to use that to make an excuse. First off its highly susceptible to human error and second you could land a high amount of punches in one round especially if you happen to hurt the fighter and not so many in the other rounds and it can favor you. Fights are fought in rounds not by punches landed in a whole fight. I had Floyd winning by a round or 2 but I thought it was a close fight and could of gone either way

Posted June 19, 2013 2:05 am

Proud African

Compubox is not reliable and the calculations are subjective. Many fighters have been given the nod when according to Compubox they were outpointed. Castillo had his moments but Mayweather dominated the early rounds and won the fight. He gave Castillo a rematch and won again.

Posted June 19, 2013 1:58 am

Floyd beat Castillo easily in the first fight… You had an idiot doing the punch stats… Low blows.. punches on the break.. punches after the bell.. punches to the back and back of he head.. and punches whilie you’re holding with one hand don’t count…

So watch the fight again… Floyd won by 5 points… a UD

In 2 fights Castillo never got a vote from 6 different judges.

Well lets not forget Lopez never fought at 154 and he has no defense. Trout was the first true 154 pounder that Canelo fought and many folks had him losing. Also since your going by punch stats, Trout out landed Canelo. Floyd has never been out landed in any fight.

The fight itself is sensational enough… If Canelo prevails it will make front page news on every major newspaper and your home page will be buzzing with news of the fight.

The day after Antonio Tarver flattened Roy Jones, I looked at my sports section, which never carries boxing news — and saw a huge picture of Tarver connecting — and another photo of Roy Jones laid flat out on the canvas… Same thing for Pacquiao-Marquez IV…

What would happen if Floyd caught a shot like that??? You guessed it.

I think it is a clever decision, for Mayweather to fight a hot young name that looks good, but lacks a lot.

Indeed Mayweather has to be at his best, to make Canelo look slow, but money always shows up in top form, he doesn’t seem to have lost speed or movement, so it’s an easy fight to predict.

Trout backed Canelo up for most of 12 rounds, even after having been knocked down, and Trout isn’t all that.

To me it will be a sensation, if Canelo beats Mayweather ….

Great work compiling those stats K.O…, Alvarez actually landed more accurately than Floyd.. Amazing.

Now go back and find the connect ratio of tossed punches those opponents landed on Saul and Floyd.

I suppose some day they’ll have a way to measure the impact of legal connects…so taps don’t count the same as terrific shots.. Maybe they’ll do it in ppsi with sensors embedded in the gloves coordinated with the video record so it computes whether the punch landed on a glove or a cheek… And we can have electronic scoring — like the swimmer who makes his touch one hundreth of a second ahead of the 2nd place finisher, instead of eyeballing the finish like they did 50 years ago.

I call BS on Trout just being Gracious after the fight…. And I’ll tell ya why! If a man thinks he lost, he’s gonna whine to anyone who will listen period. Trouts words right after the fight speak loud and clear!! ” I lost to the better man” He was alot faster, slicker and harder to hit then I thought” Nuff said!

The kid showed he could out box a taller, faster guy with longer reach, showed solid defense making Trout miss what 75/ 80 percent of his shots? While Alverez landed 40 plus percent. Big deal if Trout threw more, most alot of them were slipped, and most of the pitty pat jabs landed on the gloves of Alverez…. Yes the fight was close, and the nay sayers can say all they Want, wont change the outcome.

Let’s be honest Trout won the Canelo fight clearly, he only praised his opponent, due to where he was, in Canelo city. The scorecards, insane, and I like Canelo more than Trout.

Mayweather is clearly one of the most talented boxers, overall, even now. He will of course take advantage of Canelo’ lack of condition and defensive skills, with his speed and movement.

The most interesting factor is the weight issue, how will it effect both fighters. Mayweather is not called money, without a reason, he only takes fights he can easily win.

Canelo doesn’t need to change, just a higher work rate will be absolutely necessary, as for the judges, how do we control that,
the judges scores had Floyd winning more decisively in the first fight with Castillo ( which was competetive) than than second which Floyd did win more decisively

“I gave more rounds to Trout even with the knockdown and had Trout winning by a point.” Understandable Peej. But like I’ve said before, had Canelo not knocked Trout down, I would have given the win to Trout. That’s how close I scored the fight. Still, Canelo made Trout look largely ineffective. Canelo controlled the fight. He deserved the win.

I can kind’ve see how people could score the fight for Trout… it sure wasn’t a definitive win for Canelo. But at the end of the day, Canelo’s shots simply looked a lot more hurtful than Trout’s, and that wins fights.
I do believe the shots were more hurtful too. The open scoring meant that Trout knew he was behind, but he still didn’t really press the action as hard as someone would if they weren’t being hurt by the (occassional at best) firepower coming back at them.

He obliterated Matt Hatton on the scorecards.. Trout obliterated Cotto on the scorecards… Canelo would have shut out Guerrero, or more likely, since Guerrero is so easy to hit, would have knocked him stiff.

Victor Ortiz was stopped by Lopez… Canelo ran over Lopez like he was nothing.

How about Trout??? He was damn impressed.. Right after the fight he said, “The better man won.. Alvarez beat me.. I was surprised by his speed, his defense, and his skill… I was shocked, I was really shocked.”

It’s not often you get those kind of admissions from any boxer after a close fight… And the fight was closer than 2 of the judge’s scores… But Trout obviously was much more impressed with Canelo than Cotto.

Floyd was super impressed with Cotto, calling him his toughest opponent ever.

There are also people who thought Trout won. Problem with sitting in press row is that you can only see one side. That is what’s so good about watching the fight on TV. You can see all the punches landed and missed. I thought Trout won by a round. Everybody who says Canelo impressed gets impressed fairly easy

Posted June 18, 2013 2:19 am

TARK

That’s funny MK… Among all the commentators, judges, and ringside reporters, at least 9 of them… None of them had Trout winning.

Trout didn’t connect with hard jabs… He didn’t connect solidly with much in fact. He often missed 7 and 8 punches in a row… He connected with ineffective shots as he took power off them. He was doing no damage. Canelo was doing real damage. That’s what influenced the great majority of people to award the fight to Canelo.

Were there any English experts giving the fight to Trout?

Posted June 18, 2013 2:01 am

MK

Regarding the Trout vs Canelo fight:

I wanted Canelo to impress and win, but what I saw was Trout connecting again and again with his hard jab, and a lot of good punches, winning round after round.

Canelo had great moments with heavy combinations, but I was surprised that he started to look tired after a few rounds. Even after the Trout knock down, Trout kept winning the rounds, going forwards with his jab.

I wanted Canelo to win, and he did, according to the judges, but I saw Trout winning most of the rounds.

Mayweather is a whole other deal, Mayweather vs Canelo is an exciting fight, clearly, but I don’t see Canelo winning, in any way.

This is a win-win fight for Canelo. If he loses, then the excuses or arguments will state that he was supposed to to lose to Floyd who cherrypicked him. On the other hand, if he wins, he is now a star who just dethroned one of the best defensive fighters of all time. For mayweather it will now be that age had caught up to him, or he was never that good to begin with.

As a huge Mayweather fan, I `ll straight up to say I think mayweather wins easily, but I don`t like the fight being at 154. Mayweather fights at the welterweight limit, if canelo really wanted Floyd, he should have came down to WW to fight floyd. Floyd loses, well I had fun seeing him all these years.

Thats your opinion. I gave more rounds to Trout even with the knockdown and had Trout winning by a point. So in my opinion Trout deserved the victory. I don’t see nothing wrong with you having Canelo winning because it was a close fight and I can’t argue that either. But to have it like 2 of the judges did is just ridiculous. And Canelo did not look all that good at the beginning of the fight winging punches at Trout. Only thing is Trout did not make him pay. And once the score cards where read Canelo just played defense and Trout had to do something he is not used to doing and he was out of his element. He needs to learn how to adjust. And all this head movement stuff that Canelo was so called doing is dumb. Yes he stood in one place and bobbed back and forth and made Trout miss. Wow, now let me see him move and bob at the same time and make his opponent pay after he has made them miss. Something he has yet to do. Yes I know you have to learl slowly but we will see what he can do against Floyd. Like I said I am taking Floyd by late round TKO due to Canelos stamina issues

Canelo has the experiance to challenge Mayweather. He’s not as a fast, experianced, or as technically skilled, but who is?… Still he’s beat some of Mayweather’s retreads with ease. He’s put Baldomir to sleep. Sure he was about done by then, but Mayweather couldn’t even put a dent in him. He treated Mosely like an old man. The only problem for hm in this fight, is it’s going to be hard for him to catch and time Mayweather, and when or if he does, he better make it count.

Posted June 17, 2013 10:20 pm

Greylo

As I thought and posted before Alvarez doesn’t have world class experience like Floyd.

Mayweather takes the fight now and he gets a fighter that doesn’t have the years of experience that he does.

Time is going to catch Floyd and if he waited it would just be a harder fight in the end.

Floyd’s going to be harder to catch than Trout was and Canelo had a hard enough time catching up Trout with his sparse but hard punches.

Mayweather is going to slip and slide all night and if he gets caughjt it’ll be one lucky shot and not a barrage. Unless Canelo pulls something out of his hat and puts his endurance to the test he’s not going to outwork Floyd and certainly not out box him.

If Canelo is aggressive and puts some meaningful punch combos together he might do okay.

I just don’t think Canelo has the experience yet to challenge Floyd for twelve rounds of boxing.

Canelo needs to change strategy big time… if he goes in with the same style as in the Trout fight, he’s going to get schooled horrifically. Mayweather won’t be as open to the shots that Canelo does actually throw, and when Canelo tries to take breaks, Mayweather will very likely put that effective yet minimalist pressure on him like he did previously to Mosley/Judah (i.e. other fighters that tend to fatigue).

PEEJ…., What fighters say right after a fight offers great insights.. What they say after a few days or weeks—once they’ve had a chance to spin their BS in their favor—you have to take with a grain of salt.

Right after his Canelo fight Mosley was telling Saul he could beat anyone out there.. Canelo speaks little English so he wasn’t catching all the praise directed his way.. Mosley may have misinterpreted this as being standoffish and arrogant—maybe because Canelo didn’t want to hug or have a beaten opponent slobbering on him. Canelo knows Mosley is an ATG. He knows who Mosley is.. He wasn’t being disrespectful to a 3-Division World Champion ATG fighter. He knows Shane whipped De La Hoya, Cheato, Vargas, Collazo, Cruz, Leija, Holiday, and many other world champions.

Regardless if Mosley is past his best, he’s never been stopped and boxing 12 rounds against Shane was a great learning experience for the kid. Naturally Saul hasn’t fought as many ATG’s as Floyd. He’s 22. Over the course of the next 10 years Saul will fight 20 more times—probably all world championship fights … He’ll meet plenty of great fighters—even though he only met Mosley and Trout so far. His record is extremely impressive. It’s not the multi-divisional resume Floyd has amassed in 17 years—GTFOOH. But win or lose, the Cinnamon Kid is the most qualified man in the world to fight Floyd. It’s not going to be the easy cruise and shutout Floydiots are projecting.

It may be a SD like DLH was… You can always be on the wrong side of fuzzy brained judging like that abysmally judged fight.

As far as the “secret sauce” for Canelo—it could be his body attack and liver shot. Lamont Peterson laid into Floyd’s ribs—and Floyd’s fight was postponed for months to give Floyd a chance to heal.

Lamont can bring the heat like crazy—but not like Saul.

Meanwhile Canelo dropped Trout, but I guess yall missed that because some were too busy counting how many jabs Trout was throwing.

MK…, You picked Kessler to beat Froch in England..

Sredmond…, You picked Peterson to beat Matthysse..

Those recent picks don’t qualify you guys as boxing experts.. I told you two repeatedly what the results of those fights would be..

Negotiating a 152 catchweight was a brilliant move on Floyd’s part.. Two pounds is a massive deal.. Especially when you look at the 600,000 dollar and 150,000 fines payed by Floyd and Mikey Garcia when they couldn’t risk dropping 2 pounds and saving a fortune.

If Canelo’s team figures out the weight issue — that is the key. Canelo is a growing kid who had to dehydrate 18 pounds to make 154 for his last outing … You never know when your body will not give up that weight … But if Canelo some how beats that issue he going to give Floyd HELL.

Canelo has conditioning issues and defensive issues

He is made for Mayweather (if he is at his best)

I like Canelo, but he was tired early, and looked like a fat and tired Chavez Jr, against Trout. Trout outboxed Canelo with that fantastic jab, and good punches.

I like Canelo, like a lot of people, but he is not ready for Mayweather, and will probably never be.

The weight factor is of course interesting, but Mayweather wins.

Trout didn’t have any swelling to speak of on his face after he fought Cotto… He looked clean…

Cotto looked like a mugging victim. One score was 119-110 for Trout.. You don’t get there by being out-punched… Not in Cotto’s house with the fans screaming for Cotto … I think the others scores were on the order of Floyd’s scores vs Cotto and Guerrero.

Remember… Floyd fought Cotto and Guerrero in Floyd’s house.

Trout fought Cotto in Cotto’s house.

CORRECTAMUNDO

Cotto didn’t give money a run for his money. He never even wobbled him like Mosley DID. Cotto WON 3 or 4 rounds and that’s IT. OH and he gave Floyd a bloody nose in the process. But that doesn’t qualify for giving him a run for his money. Being CLOSE to WINNING a decision or close to scoring a knockout is considered giving a run for someone’s money…..Cotto did NEITHER.

Posted June 17, 2013 2:31 pm

Ray

If Cotto wasnt that good then how is it that he gave Money a run for his money? Now all of sudden people saying he wasnt any good and Trout wasnt any good neither. Yet time and time again Canelo is improving surprising both veterans like Mosley and a good fighter like Trout. So how is that?

Boxing Barlow

This is without dobt Floyds biggest challenge since De La Hoya. I really think this is gonna be a close contest. I expect Floyds experince to be too much, The first half of the fight will see both fighters having some sucess before Floyd takes over in the second half of the fight, makes the adjustments and wins the fight ina cagey affair.

Posted June 17, 2013 2:06 pm

Pubicenemyisdumb

Hey writer Canelo improves dramatically with each fight he learns from his mistakes and he learned that he needs to step up on his stamina and I’m sure he will hire Arizza or Angel Memo Herrida or someone else to improve strength and stamina so Public Dummy please don’t write on this issue you are a big dummy

CORRECTAMUNDO

“I didn’t see a lot of Q-Tips up Trout’s nose or blood running out of it.”-That’s because they would rather use the Q-Tips to treat Trouts swelling on his FACE from Cotto landing the most effective Punches in the Fight instead of using them for something trivial such as a bloody nose… Marquez knocked Pacquiao OUT while he had a bloody nose SO that tells you how much a bloody nose means in Boxing….and for those who have POOR reasoning SKILLS… A bloody nose means NADA. A bloody nose can come from landing ONE nice shot. It takes more than ONE nice shot to beat Floyd. It takes more than 105 shots TOO because that’s all that Cotto could land vs. Floyd. He landed 183 against Trout though….He landed only 74 power shots vs. Floyd but landed 154 vs Trout……Trout has a stronger nose SO WHAT???…. Reducing your opponent to landing HALF as many power shots as he DID vs. a “super slick Southpaw” like Trout is GREATER than having a stronger nose. Because Superior Defensive SKILLS is more important than a stronger nose or chin. Wladimir Klitschko says that I am CORRECT on that.

Imagine Mayweather facing Cotto coming off a UD loss? how would that look to the PUBLIC?

Posted June 17, 2013 1:27 pm

SREDMOND

AGAIN we have PHONY scribe and amateur fan Tark trying to sell the hell out of Austin Trout based on him beating a fighter coming DIRECT off a loss… Trout did NOT stop Cotto or even knock him down he outboxed him… Just as Canelo won but was BABYed by those Texas judges that had his name tatooed on their respective GROINS and open scoring that told him “Just stay on your feet and you win while you suck wind” Floyd Mayweather does NOT get tired and the judges would be hard pressed to put a poker up his kiester… Canleo is gonna have to let his hands go and if he is economical with the BEST defender in boxing and its most accurate puncher he might as well write 119-110 Mayweather on the card… He gonna have to take chances and thats what FMJ loves… Tark its gonna be a pleasure watching extract those Red Pubes from your teeth and go back to the drawing board…

Kermit Cintron had lost 2 out of 3, Mosley had NOT won in 3 fights when he faced Canelo… AGAIN I like Canelo and think he is a very good YOUNG fighter but guys saying he is BETTER than Oscar De La Hoya based on his current wins are DELUSIONAL…. Guerrero was a rising tide when he faced Floyd and he had World Class experience and was not in with a BIG puncher… Canelo is a BIG 154 pounder that has been smashing a notable # of WW’s…. AGAIN imagine if Mayweather was gonna be 170 with his skills against a 152 fighter the night it goes down? Guys would not even show up there would not be the slightest chance of his losing… But because its FMJ everyone ignores the obstacles he has to overcome while winning because he usually makes it look EASY…

Posted June 17, 2013 1:16 pm

CORRECTAMUNDO

There’s not much to bring down. He beat Trout and took his paper title. OK…. HE beat Mosley who already had the SKILLS beat out of him and was WINLESS in his last 3 Fights. OK. He beat Hatton (the LESSER one) for the title. OK. Those are the highlights of his career. Unless you’re going to add in Josesito Lopez who Marcos Maidana just stopped almost as quickly as Alvarez DID . Let THAT soak into your mind a bit.

Boxtra…, Cotto never went after Trout in any meaningful way. Are you kidding??? Cotto ran into Trout’s physicality and strength edge, and could never get meaningfully into the fight… Trout whipped Cotto’s tail in Cotto’s house, MSG…by the same scoring margins that Floyd whipped Cotto in Floyd’s house … and I didn’t see a lot of Q-Tips up Trout’s nose or blood running out of it.

Despite Floyd fighting Cotto in his own house, it was the toughest fight of Floyd’s career — Q-Tips up the nose…. Getting tagged with solid shots… getting drawn into heavy exchanges… making exclaimations after the fight about how Cotto was the toughest fighter he ever fought in his life. WOW!!!!

It wasn’t that way for Trout.. NO Q-Tips up the snoot… NEVER drawn into foolish exchanges… NEVER getting a bloodied and bunged up face.

For Trout??? Cotto was another day at the office… No big deal.

For Floyd??? Cotto was the toughest hombre he ever faced.

Everybody who is rooting for Floyd always try and bring down Canelo’s accomplishments, Canelo has thus far faced decent boxer perhaps not great but then again you have the P4P great Mayweather facing a former light weight Guerrero? And Canelo gets criticized for facing welters you say? Guerrero, really? Who didnt see how that was going to play out? Canelo has faced boxers not brawlers all the time. Kermit cintro boxed Angulos ears off, Mosley gave Mayweather problems, Trout beat Cotto and Canelo beat the man that beat Cotto, the same Cotto that gave Mayweather a good fight, so give Canelo some credit.

Posted June 17, 2013 12:48 pm

CORRECTAMUNDO

“Cotto never went after the bigger, stronger Trout.”-FALSE. TARK is posting what he dreams instead of what actually happened. Cotto went after Trout and he landed the most effective punches of that bout though Trout landed the MOST punches. Also Cotto proved that he was a more powerful puncher in that bout. Please take a MEMORY class…….But when Cotto faced Floyd not only did Floyd land the MOST punches he also landed the most EFFECTIVE punches of the bout. SO Floyd is head and shoulders above Trout and Cotto. Ring Magazine and all other EXPERTS are as CORRECT as I am on that.

Tark, Mayweather gives ALL his opponents praise and Cotto earned the praise he is a HOF fighter but he falls SHORT of ATG by a comfortable margin… He NEVER dominated one of his BEST opponents his best WIN is a very good version of Shane Mosley but it was a tough fight…He lost to Margo vit stoppage, Pacquiao who was smaller and Floyd who was smaller as well…. AGAIN I think Cotto is terrific but he is NOBODIES All Time GREAT fighter that means he ranks with Duran, Hearns, Mayweather and Pacquiao… Not plausible and besides Trout beat him AFTER a UD loss thats a realistic deduction…. Just like Stevensons win is very good relative to expectations but the fact Chad had just been knocked out casts the “W” in another light…

Nope. Floyd’s Defense is at least 2 times BETTER than Trout’s

Posted June 17, 2013 12:36 pm

TARK

Floyd Mayweather Jr. pumped up Cotto… Floyd is the guy who said Cotto was so great… Floyd told Cotto, “You’re the toughest fighter I ever fought.” Floyd was over-the-top on Cotto because Floyd finally fought an ATG fighter — and Floyd was VERY proud of himself.

Trout said, “Cotto is Floyd’s toughest opponent??? LMFAO. Let me Try him.”

I didn’t see a lot of Q-Tips being shoved up Trout’s nose in that fight.

Posted June 17, 2013 12:21 pm

SREDMOND

Tark, I am a HUGE Cotto fan but he is NOT an ATG he is a HOF fighter the only ATG’s in the discussed weight classes are Mayweather and Pacquiao who both own wins over Cotto… You are trying to PUMP up Cotto to make Trout seem like a BETTER fighter than he his…If Austin Trout quit today he would be QUICKLY forgotten and the only fight that would EVER come up would be Cotto…You remind me of that religious psycho “Hecdog” at times you think “saying something with conviction makes it so”…. Sorr Cotto is nobodys ATG, but he is a quality HOF fighter who fought everyone around….

Posted June 17, 2013 11:57 am

SREDMOND

Tark, HOW do we KNOW that “that no one can outbox Trout or Canelo at 154″ who have they been facing? Canelo has NOT faced ANY other noteworthy 154 pounders absent Austin Trout who’s rep is 60% off beating Cotto coming off a LOSS….??? Canelo never beat Kirkland, Vanes, Angulo, Molina, Lara or any other REAL 154 pounders lurking around and neither has Trout…. Canelo made his bones at the weight against WELTERWEIGHTS and thats just a FACT… Kermit Cintron who had lost 2 of 3, Mosley who had not won in YEARS and was done, Hatton who never was anyone, Lopez a guy who recently came from 140 to face a HUGE 154 pounder, Baldomir who was decrepit and OLD…. Jose Miguel Cotto ANOTHER guy who is NOT a player at 154… I think Canelo is very good but your notions on how good a fighter he is are OVERBLOWN, you are acting like this kid has proven a ton when he is just beginning to take the next steps… I remember when Juanma was looking like a BEAST after ACTUALLY stopping a World Class fighter QUICK (Ponce De Leon) I remember when Chad Dawson was racking up wins against the Old Guard and guys like Adamek NOW look at him… Your faith in Canelo is WAYY out of proportion to his accomplisments if his 43-0-1 record was saturated with quality names he would be on the P4P list like Ward who has HALF the fights but 3x the QUALITY… Your a NUTCASE who already thinks Canelo is BETTER than Oscar who was a 6 weight Champ and fought more HOFERS and ATGS than Canelo likely will EVER have the chance to… You dared to try and sell Canelo beating N’dou and a RANCID version of Shane Mosley and proof of his fight game….. Floyd Mayweather is gonna have a field day with this relatively SLOW kid… Again he is a very good YOUNG fighter but he is not equipped to deal with FMJ…

Posted June 17, 2013 11:53 am

SREDMOND

Tark, what is REDUNDANT is your PHONY analysis and bandwagoneers enthusiasm for NEW JACK fighters… Canelo beat Trout by YOUR admission in a a CLOSE fight it was a damn good win and it was his FIRST that had a World Class young opponent in the mix… That said DRAWING a ton of conclusiions about Canelos TRUE quality based on Trout is DUMB because Trout does NOT have much World Class experience really NONE outside of Cotto who was coming direct off a LOSS…. Canelo moved his head more in ONE fight…!!!!! WOW!!! Meanwhile Josesito Lopez and hopelessly outgunned 140 pounder was catching him with some nice shots before he succumbed to his BIGGER foe…. Canelo is NOT some sort of virtuoso he does NOT box on Mayweathers level, his ONLY hope is landing something big because he is simply NOT gonna outbox Floyd Mayweather… You keep talking about Canelo and Trout based on ONE fight!!! How much of an amateur boxing fan can you be??

Same old story…..zzz…zzz..zzz

This guy’s articles are redundant…..didn’t even bother reading it. How is this guy allowed to continue posting the same thing over and over???

Posted June 17, 2013 11:03 am

TARK

These articles are like Sredmond posts—short, redundant, and not extremely thoughtful… Come up with something more imaginative if you’re writing for one of the top Boxing websites in the world. Please.

Trout is 5’10 X 171, and a tricky southpaw. Cotto never went after the bigger, stronger Trout. Why didn’t he? Why didn’t David Haye attack Wladimir Klitschko when the fight got away from him? Haye is a great attacker. Joe Frazier is a natural attacker. Why didn’t he throw more when he fought George Foreman? Maybe because he’s teeny weeny?

The Cinnamon Kid was far ahead on the scorecards—and he needed to go 12 rounds against a super slick boxer—who virtually nobody can out-box at 154—except Alvarez. Saul was prepping for Floyd. Saul needed those rounds to polish up his boxing skills. He didn’t try to finish Trout off when AT was hurt. Why should he? Let AT recover and continue racking up rounds against an outstanding boxer—who was much taller and had a much longer reach. Buff those boxing skills with as many rounds as you possible—because soon you will be facing the world’s best boxer and you’ll need that experience. Showcase your defense against a slick connector who makes every punch count. Make him miss… miss… miss… miss… and miss some more.

Floyd would have a rough time with Trout. Floyd called Cotto, “The toughest fighter I ever fought.” Seeing all those Q-Tips up Floyd’s bloody nose, I can understand why Floyd believes Cotto is so great. An ATG in fact.

But Floyd never fought Trout—or he wouldn’t say Cotto is the best.

Saul got plenty of attacking work in on Josesito and Kermit the Killer. You’re not going to learn any science boxing those clueless dorks—so you take them out. Boxing tons of rounds with them would dull Saul’s skills. Like what could Floyd learn by boxing 12 redundant rounds with dummy Guerrero?

Tyler

You mean taking no chances and waiting all night knowing he couldn’t lose a decision? No.

He got a knock down and did just enough to keep the rounds close because he can’t lose in TX.

IMO, Canelo never uses the same strategy. He knows Trout is one fighter and Mayweather is another. Hes a smart fighter. He will not rely on an old plan from Trout, how is that going to help him? Think people, think..

Posted June 17, 2013 9:08 am

Papo

The issue with Canelo is experience. Sure, he has a great record, but the majorities of those fights have been easy and will have to be at a different level against Floyd. Like many other fighters his falling for the “I know how to beat Floyd” trap. The fact Floyd’s opponent brag so much about having “the plan” to defeat him shows their insecurity.

Maweather Sr. knows Floyd style very well, which help him understand how Canelo’s corner is preparing for the fight. There’s no such thing as a secret weapon. While Floyd works on being the best he can be on fight night, his opponents are trying to figure out what to do different than previous opponent(s). In other words, it’s not difficult for Floyd’s corner to know what’s coming.

Canelo’s plan to defeat Floyd should be to improve his own abilities and don’t make the same mistakes from previous fights. Don’t get so much consumed about Floyd’s flaws to forget about his own. If he goes against Floyd as he did against Trout, he’s going to take a beating…he can’t afford to get gassed out early.

The answer is no, i very much doubt it… unfortunately

the one true shot Canelo has in his arsenal is his great timing, Floyd is better in every other department EXCEPT timing, split second timing negates speed, time will tell, if he’s not weakened to make weight Money got a fight on his hands.

I think the Canelo that fought Trout would do horribly against Floyd. So Canelo and his team better work on a different strategy. While I’m not picking him to win, I do think Canelo will still have his moments against Floyd. I wouldn’t even be shocked if Floyd goes down early on. But I think as the fight goes on Floyd will make his adjustments to win a decision.

If he stay back 2 counter mayweather he wil fail. the great marquez try 2 sit back against mayweather, he get a beating of his life in 2009.

Hahahahahahaga yet another one by mrmith…. It’s not only the question if Canelo will only throw a few hard shots a round it is also if mayweather will land a few of them too, because if Canelo manage to land a few a round and mayweather just run and hold than Canelo dosent need to do anything else ,to do what Garcia did mayweather needs to open up a litle bit and eat up Lopez punches so will see if mayweather will try and do what Garcia did !

no he cant win win against Floyd on the performance of the trout fight.. Mayweather wins. I hope the fight does bring the best out of Alvarez but cant c him winning.

No..I’m sure Canelo will change his strategy for Mayweather but it remains to be seen if he can be effective with whatever he brings, more-so win.
